damms, I had hoped that Marina would have played it cool and not shown her hand while in the lion’s den, so to speak, but her emotions got the better of her… I liked Marina… just an innocent victim in all this… I shall miss her… this Ro is ruthless and must be put down quickly and I hope Thorin finds the appropriate and fitting Lunarian punishment for Ro, along with Tez and anyone else connected with the LoonAryans…
I can’t help feeling that she was completely set up for this from the start. Firstly this vulnerable girl got pointed at Dick, perhaps as a honey trap they could use against him. When that didn’t work, and she seemed sorry rather than angry, she was taken along to that event. I can’t help thinking they already thought she could be a threat, so planned from the outset to neutralise her as a warning to any others who weren’t fully with the program. Why did they pick her in the first place? Perhaps because she had expressed some pro-human views earlier.
“I hate that smell” – It feels like she has smelled that smell before – as if this isn’t the first time a fellow Lunarian has been disposed of in this way.
The amb/gov used to brag to Dick Tracy that they had no crime in Moon Valley. They were so much more civilized, blah, blah, blah. Now we see that not all moon people are quite so civilized.
Obviously RoZan’s assistant has nothing in common with that movie Army general, who has been quoted to say “I love the smell of Naplam in the morning!”
OH NO! MARINA! I guess she won’t be escaping to warn everyone that the time is nigh! The lighting effects and use of shadow in todays’ page are all fantastic! Well, the Moon guys in brown shirts have proved they’re as ready to murder for their conquest as the earth guys in brown shirts were. Oh dear!
jesus… I know it’s only a fictional character, and I can be a frequent village idiot here at times, but the unfunny remarks displayed today to a character’s gruesome death is overwhelming… no sensitivity shown in those remarks at all… but I guess it’s a comic strip, so it’s ok to make cracks about death in this instance, since it’s not real… there’s a time for ‘why so serious’ and then there’s NOT… and this it..
Wouldn’t it be nice if the Lunarians had some sort of mystery power that we’ve never heard of that, oh, I don’t know, spins a cocoon around it’s victim and immediately immobilizes it, umm, humanely?
We can see some blue bolts emitted as she says that “Our people will learn the truth!” We can assume that she is sending to “her people”, which I guess is another faction. We don’t know a lot about how the powers work, but we have seen different colors. Maybe yellow, green, red, and blue signify different races, or clans among them. Thorin was emitting blue bolts as well on the 7th. Let us hope that her message was received, there won’t be any more. RIP Marina.
This is both a horrifying and excellent Sunday page.
The artwork is superb and the intensity of the writing is maintaining the tension from yesterday’s out-of-control rant by Ro-zan. It took a loooong time to get to this point in the story but now that we have, there are many excellent elements beginning to appear.
While we didn’t witness the death of Marina, it was handled very effectively and reminded me of the horror of Ponytail’s off panel death and the effectiveness of the shadow and the snap of Double-Up’s whip. As I said on the day it happened, there was a great sensitivity in the Mysta/Ro-zan sex scene. In very short order, Ro-zan has proven himself to be a Dictator, a skunk to women, and a murderer. At last a villain who is really hated enough to deserve a head shot from Tracy. This type of action and intensity is a glimpse of what the Dick Tracy strip should and used to be. Great work to all involved.
This is the first time in a long time that I have seen someone get murdered in this strip. But wait a minute, how will Marina’s absence be explained to the Ambassador? Her and Tracy running off together… nah, that dog won’t hunt.
Now we know what the armsmen were there for. Ro was expecting someone to oppose him there. Killing a political opponent in front of everyone only intensifies the ideals of his followers into something they are willing to kill for. It’s a common enough leadership tactic among evil dictators and regimes.
I have doubts about this “death” of Marina. I suspect this was actually a bit of trickery by Thorin, Dick, and Marina working together to expose the revolutionaries, and it will turn out the “Marina” they attempted to murder was something else.
Is poor Marina already dead from the electro-charges of the Armsmen? While Tezla’s grim closing remark seems to suggest as much, it seems to me a dramatic waste to have her zapped to dust without a chance to make a death"bed" revelation to some one of the Good Guys—preferably Tracy for the romantic angle. There is little narrative point to her death if no one outside the cabal knows about it. Oh, well. Such is Life and Death in a comic strip….

Look to see fierce treachery. Insurrectionists converge
Superior in their own minds. All others they would purge.
At the meeting of foul plotters all dissension is forbidden
Intentions so despicable discussions must stay hidden.
Thorin, he shall be deposed. For Tracy a worse fate
Eliminate the human! Consequence of hate.
Marina will have none of it, so speaks free from her heart
Is dead before she hits the ground. Rebellion’s bloody start.
War with others shall begin. The goal is domination
Sweep away the “lesser” beings. End game annihilation.
