Here’s hoping Christie has a shot. Three DeSantis post is a bit of hyperbole, but from taking to teachers in that area I get the impression it’s not much of one.

Florida has experienced a population boom since the end of WWII. Judging from quality of their politicians (and their citizens in general), it appears not too high a percentage of those who migrated south could be described as the “best and brightest”.

Is it my opinion(s) of Christie that keep changing, or the man himself? IMHO Christie was a good prosecutor, then he was a decent governor, then his dirty tricks came out, followed by becoming a stooge for the Big Cheeto. He seemed to develop a little integrity and now appears to be one of the few Republicans who’ll say the (would-be) emperor has no clothes.

Many southerners screamed about anti-slavery rhetoric when this nation was founded (early woke?). Some haven’t stopped with their racism since although they try to cloak it in “reasonable” arguments.

I remember the ‘60s. Riots and such. The name Watts comes to mind. Ohio State is in there too. I still don’t know what “woke” means, but I remember the E.R.A., draft dodgers, flower power, LSD, VD, AIDS, and a lot of other stuff we survived. Life endures, even if living is hard. Have a wonderful, day just to show ’em we can.

Look it up. Woke means awake. As in conscious, aware of what’s going on. Not woke means asleep, as in unconscious, as in not aware of what’s going on. Why would DeSantis prefer the voters to be asleep? Pretty obvious, isn’t it?

Just a side note: police-involved shootings are up every year under DeSantis.

You can redefine “woke” but you cannot stop truth. If they don’t get it in the classroom, they will get it in the streets along with suspicion, intolerance and violence. A man who tries to suppress history will be quickly forgotten by it.

DeSantis must have had someone take his exams for him, he’s far too ignorant to get a degree or have passed a bar. Someone should tell him he was born only a very short few years before Italians were white.

“woke”, much like ‘politically correct’, is simply showing consideration for your fellow American. conservatives try to demonize those terms. Do conservatives oppose showing consideration, or just oppose Americans?

The Republican definition of “woke” is simple: “Woke” is anything that doesn’t let straight white Christian Americans feel superior to others just by being straight white Christian Americans. These people don’t love America; they’re in love with themselves for being American, and they have a kneejerk hatred for anything which threatens that.

    .

Also, DeSantis has threatened to leave illegal immigrants “stone cold dead at the border”. How long before he decides that’s how he should handle his enemies inside the border?

Any kid who grew up in the South in the 50’s through the 70’s knows darn well that the War between the States was a “war of economic sanction against the South” or a “war of Northern aggression”. I learned this “fact” in every grade I was in, 1st through 12th. I also remember being asked in first grade what I wanted to be when I grew up. I had two answers 1) a zoo keeper or 2) a horse breeder. I was gently laughed at and told girls couldn’t do such things and then given the choice of 1) teacher 2) secretary 3) nurse, until I got married. Machine learning designer/ Human factors in design (which is one of the things I became) wasn’t on the list. So they were sort of right. I didn’t become a zoo keeper or a horse breeder. Though my husband will tell you I have a zoo… In case it isn’t clear, I do NOT AGREE with the “Lost Cause”. I just grew up with it.

There is something humorous about “Did the whites win?” I haven’t looked at a Doonesbury comic in decades. I found a sodden-wet Sunday paper on the sidewalk, dried it out, there was Doonesbury. I checked a little history. If you’d asked me what the strip is about, I’d have mentioned when President Bush, Sr., was presented as an invisible man. I suspect all humor is unintentional. The clown is the butt of all the clown’s jokes: that’s what clowns do for us.
