I cut my hair when I was 18, I got tired of putting in perms and damaging my hair with curls. It was the best decision I ever made and even in my 30s, I still pull it off and look like I’m in my 20s. But I did for me, not because of some teenage brat.
Sorry, but you can tell he’s already done some cutting which means he can’t put it back on. She’s going to have some bangs, fullness there and wisps there. She needs to have him finish what he’s started. Then if she still doesn’t like it, she’ll need to grow it all back. I know how that goes as a friend of mine did a lousy job on my last hair cut & I’m still trying to grow it back out so I can have it recut by a professional.
When I was in school, one day my friends & I were discussing what we were going to do “when we grew up”. My friend J said that she wanted to be a stylist. Another friend said, “Great! You can give [Wren] a haircut.” J said, “I am NOT going to be the one to cut her hair!” Fast forward a few years. I was 20 & decided to cut my hair shorter than I’d worn it in years. I walked into the salon & was seated. Suddenly, behind me I hear a gasp. Yup, J was my stylist! We still joke about that day.
If I want a ‘new look’ I cut my own hair. Relabel the horrid results as new, adventurist or stretch it to curated. For good or ill it is perpetual knit hat season. Perpetual hat hair to blur the last attempt of ‘styling’ my own hair.
Too late as he’s already started. You now have the ‘April tries to cut her own hair with safety scissors look’. Best to let the transformation continue or he’ll need to try and fix it like you had to do with April which turned out marginal at best. The salvation comes in that it will grow back..
Before I got to age 45, I tried shorter hair, then let hair grow back as I was not ready, then when I got to age 45, thought enough shorter hair, I also colored my hair to slow down the gray, this was when I worked pt in office, when that job ended, I ended coloring and gray expanded, much older on SS, keep my hair short and on SS.
I could be wrong because the fourth and fifth panels are seen from different angles, and the fourth is very zoomed in. But it looks like in the fourth panel, Elly’s hair is much shorter, and in the fifth it’s more or less back to normal.
After chemo, my hair grew back curly after being straight all my life. I went to get a trim & my hairdresser of 18 years butchered it & cut it very short. It did not grow back curly!
Her hair is dripping wet. Every cut I’ve gotten, the stylist doesn’t wash it first. They might mist it a little, but not so much that it’s dripping and looks completely soaked like Ellie’s in the first panel.

Now we know that Ellie doesn’t reserve her insanity for John, alone.

We’re so sorry, Mrs. Patterson
We’re so sorry if we caused you any pain
We’re so sorry, Mrs. Patterson
But there’s no long hair left
And I believe I’m gonna rain
We’re so sorry, but we haven’t done a decent style all day
We’re so sorry, Mrs. Patterson
But if anything should happen
We’ll be sure to give your hair a rinse
We’re so sorry, Mrs. Patterson
But we haven’t done a bloody decent style all day
We’re so sorry, Mrs. Patterson
But the kettle’s on the boil
And we’re so easily called away

Admiral Halsey notified me
He had to have a trim or he couldn’t go to sea
I had another look and I had a cup of tea and butter pie
Butter pie?
The butter wouldn’t melt so I put it in the pie

Scissors across the bangs
Scissors across the back and sides, back and sides

I was a hairstylist for 15 yrs. The worst customer was the one who wants something different but not. Cut 1/4" off and call it a day.
