Am I missing the joke here? I am guessing it is supposed to have something to do with Andy’s pie, but it’s not as if they’re not going to have to eat her pie anyway (“oops – Quincy ‘accidentally’ got into Mom’s pie. Good thing we have four more…why are there four empty pie tins on Peter’s plate?”)
Before the jokes about Andy not making a “real” pumpkin pie, note that the iconic orange jack’o’lantern pumpkins are not the best for making pies, they are too tough and stringy. Butternut squash are actually the best for making “pumpkin” pie, and the variety of pumpkin that Libby’s uses for its canned pumpkin looks more like a butternut squash than a Halloween pumpkin. This is also the reason for “pumpkin pie spice”.
Do all bad cooks suffer from denial? When I taste my cooking and I know if it’s good or not, I’m not afraid of constructive criticism. The only times my turkey didn’t turn out was when my son decided it would be funny to tell me he’s arriving on Monday and then show up on Sunday not giving me enough time to thaw the turkey properly before being cooked which makes it chewy and ruins it for me. No matter, we’ve got that all worked out now.

She would make 2-3 pies (like apple, cherry, pumpkin) and others would bring in some really great selections, both homemade and bakery bought. Good times were had by all. PS: Some of us discovered that a bit of straight Jack Daniels goes down well with pecan pie!
Then there’s cheesecake. I had some at a nice Italian restaurant on Saturday. It had blueberry compote on it. GOD, it was good. Made me glad to be alive!
How does she have the idea that ONE pumpkin pie is enough for a family? Especially for Thanksgiving!? Plus, in our house, pumpkin is the only vegetable some of our pickiest children will eat.
