Yes, sadly, we seem to have become a country where many people are proud of behaving like schoolyard jerks. They call it being “not politically correct.” We used to just call it “bad manners.”

2. Most women are creeped out by gifts that are too costly. They come w a price and with implications. The saving grace for Les on that score is the Pru might assume the piece is either artificial or a less expensive piece of “bridge jewelry” rather than fine jewelry, given the price limit.

3. In that case Mr. Grey or someone else might not be so easily fooled, leading to that person or people asking the question, “Where the heck did Les get the money for that?”

4. Alternatively, even if Pru assumes the piece is inexpensive, Les might not catch onto to that and try to extract his “price”.

This is going to get very messy.

The people here who love inserting conflict, griping, and whining are going to have to work harder to find their starting points. (Preferrably not. Maybe they will see it as a holiday gift for them.)

Of course, Les COULD be getting the piece for his mother, but that, too, could lead to his uncle wondering where the money came from if he spend a lot.

Surprisingly odd. I REALLY did not expect that Leslie was going to want to buy Pru an expensive gift. But what sorts of things could this lead to? Here are some hypotheses I have with my probabilities of how likely I think they are to happen:

1. Leslie is sincerely attracted to Pru, does not realize her orientation is homosexual. Likelihood scale IMO 2/10.

2. Leslie is really trying to do something nice for Pru for a reason not related to sexual attraction he may have. Likelihood scale IMO 1/10.

3. Leslie is planning some sort of scheme to get Pru into “hot water” at The Fuse, and this “gift” somehow plays into that scheme. Likelihood scale IMO 6/10.

4. Leslie is actually most angry at his Uncle for making him work at The Fuse, and whatever this gift exchange plan is all about is really designed to put his Uncle in a bad light. Likelihood scale IMO 4/10.

When Les finds out he will blow a gasket.

The investigation,where’d he get the $$?,leads to his downfall,but MrGray gets involved somehow..saves his azz again. This cud take a while,so let’s leave Toni/Brad alone,ok?But the brad/****(roommate,I’m having a senior moment can’t think of it)reunion will be epic…

When I first saw the sales clerk, I thought she had serious scoliosis.

And a word to all the men out there (Les included): Some of us women are more impressed by a well-chosen, novel, bit of inspired costume jewelry than by a jewel dripping money.

clearly Les is staging this whole thing so he can give Pru a present, which he would be too embarrassed to do on his own… finally we see some weakness and sensitivity in him. But Les’s face is still drawn in that resentful, sneering, dishonest way and I am afraid he may steal a necklace that he can’t afford or maybe he is using the $ from the kids fundraiser to by it.

I walked out on a snotty bi+@# salesperson that pulled that on me once. I’ll admit I did not look the part but I had been eyeing a painting for my wife and had in my pocket the several hundred needed to buy it. The salestramp would barely acknowledge me presence and when I told her I was interested in buying a painting she pointed to the prints bin and said I might find something I liked there.I informed her I had been planning on buying a particular painting, pointed it out to her, and then told her I’d be spending my money someplace that did not employee elitist .My wife ended up with a lovely silver and amber set that she still wears and cherishes 20+ years later.Oh, the owner was in the art gallery when this happened and I never saw Mrs Elite in there again.

A good jeweler would never assume someone could only afford the cheapest items. Even a child looking for something for mommy could have daddy paying for it and want something expensive.

When the gifts are exchanged will people know who their ‘secret santa’ is?

Listen he is gonna get caught trying to steal one and Uncle wont be able to get him off the hook this time. We wont see Lesli for a very long time.

Politics, religion, and now sexuality: who really cares? I just think that Les is a sleeze and Pru is about to be victimized. (Although, I have to admit that the lesbians I’ve met kind of scare me).

Les has been raising a lot of money for charity…

So is the outgoing one.

Ox and Les will have similar incomes IF Les stopped pocketing Ox’s tips. Ox suggested the $20 limit, so it might be that it would not make sense for Les to spend above that IF he did not have additional sources of income (donations, and possibly much of Ox’s fair share of the tips). How much more than $20 he spends will be interesting.

I don’t think this is a scam. I think he’s smitten, and in for a big surprise!

Now I am wondering if Les made his cash appropriations thinking all along that he would play Secret Santa to Pru.

The cartoon stands on its own, but the comments remind me of two unrelated stories. 1. In the movie Goldfinger, James Bond throws Pussy Galore, the lesbian leader of a pack of lesbian fliers into the hay and (2) in the words of C. S. Forester, in The African Queen………“does his will, HER WILL, unto her.” Luckily, Mr. Bond didn’t meet my cousin because she would have kicked the crap out of him.

These arcs involving Les and his sly dishonest behavior are so unsatisfying. Nothing is ever resolved; he is never observed. There is no closure on any of his actions. I guess it took a year to get Toni and Brad married off. Will it take a year to solve Les’s problems or else put him back in some form of juvenile criminal rehab?

Crooked Les Knox is about to spend his ill-gotten gains in the mistaken belief that he can impress Prudence!

The stage is set for massive doses of irony!
