Ok since we’re talking about the Civil War, I read some trivia that blew my mind. Did you know, Gen. Harriet Tubman was alive both when John Adams and when Ronald Reagan were alive?! The USA really is a young nation. Like a teenager if you will.

No, just no, end this story arc asap. No Luann in jail.

So for the second session does Axel bring flowers or a box of candy for Luann? The kid has a crush and since I am pretty sure G&K are not going to do a Mary Kay Letourneau arc next week I guess that Luann is going to have to find a way to let the lad down easy without breaking his heart too badly.

Maybe next session Luann will make tea and we’ll hear say sympathetically “Years from now when you talk about this – and you will – be kind.”

Yep, I supected that this is where this would be heading. Now, we’ll be seeing Luann in the news in one of those teacher-student sex scandals, while Bernice wishes something like that could happen to her.

Axel is thinking with the wrong head. I’m thinking he didn’t break up with faye, she broke up with him because he’s too shallow. Luann is trying to help this boy but he’s just hearing what he wants.

Not going to get much tutoring done if all the sessions are 5 minutes long.

Unfortunately, Luann currently has no clue that Mr. “Axis, Bold as Love,” is developing the traditional school-boy crush from a more innocent time. Else she would have Bernice “subbing” for her during the next couple of sessions.

Suggestion #2: Maybe Ax-Boy would get “jazzed” to write his essay, if he saw a couple of movies dealing with the Civil War. I would suggest “Glory,” “Lincoln,” and the most excellent “Gangs of New York,” which features scenes of Immigrants grabbed off the boat and literally thrown right into the conflict. (“Cold Mountain” is another good one)

Lu should just be sure to get Jack to attend and sit between her and Axe.

The classic situation of misunderstanding ♡. I like it! Axel understands what he wants and Luann is totally oblivious. Also, in today’s strip Luann looks even prettier than usual. This situation reminds me a bit of when Les was “courting” Prudence, I hope this too ends with an open discussion between the two, but I also hope that Fay gets involved and everything will be more absurd and embarrassing for Axel.

Axel thinks they will get something straight between them. Luann will have to let him down easy.

He will be making a move and Faye (or pick anyone else) will walk in.

I think there may have been a misunderstanding regarding “us”.

Is Luann really that dense that she doesn’t see how this could go sideways very quickly? For one thing, she should NOT have touched him yesterday. And second, there are giant red flags waving all over the place and if she’s not careful she’s going to be in a world of trouble. If he makes a move and she turns him down, he could take revenge in ways that won’t end well for her.

Axel wants to be in a little farther.

Axel has fallen for Luann.

In my high school, senior year history class consisted of the teacher writing (in outline form) the lesson that we would carefully copy down. Tests were selective regurgitation. History could be interesting, but that teacher ensured it would be a useless and boring subject.

He is in for something that LuAnn isn’t.

He should read a copy of the journal of Leander Stillwell, “The Story of a Common Soldier in the Civil War”. He’s so descriptive that you actually feel like you were there with him…

As a boy his age, I remember crushing on my tutor as well. Of course, she let me down gently but it made for a good memory and she was still nice to me after. For Axel…I dunno. One can hope it’s a turning point for him.

Somehow I don’t think the Axels’ essay will be about the Civil War, maybe it will be about how an older girl and young soldier fell in love? Seriously though, I see that Luann is using a brilliant ploy in her tutoring method – get the crush/infatuation started right away with male students so they will be more cooperative. Good job!

As someone from yesterday’s strip pointed out, that touch on Axel’s arm isn’t going to end well. Now Axel is thinking amore, not history. Hence he picks up on “us” and “together” and not at all for the reasons Luann is trying to impart.

Ok so if Luann is going to be a teacher she will have to have student interactions and maybe she doesn’t see where this is heading. Is she that clueless? Perhaps she needs to stick with the really young pupils.I definitely don’t like this arc and hope it ends asap with Luann’s reputation intact.

On Monday 300 pound Marge The Barge takes over for Luann. Crisis averted. The story then pivots to Bernice hitting on Gunther, which causes one of them to develop duck lips. Stay tuned.

This reminds me of an episode of “Fraiser”!

There will be no creepy headlines like the lady who went to jail for dating her student and getting pregnant. This is a comic strip. There may be awkward moment as boundaries are clarified, but this isn’t going anywhere near the inferences I’m seeing here. Yeesh!

The plot is getting similar to current “Mary Worth”’s.

Luann needs to learn to not shove her chest out in front of raging hormone young boys. Unless she’s in Pahn Farr or something.

I’m all for Luann getting more storylines (especially since it’s her strip, after all), but I am really not liking this one at all.

I believe there is a clear breakdown in communications.

I’m enjoying this arc mainly because Luann is front and center in it! It’s obvious Axel is developing a crush on her, but I hope it doesn’t go dark as some have so strongly hinted.

Has Luann no shame? Trying to pick up that sweet innocent child. Tsk, tsk!!
