Eh. It’s no worse than the jingly elevator music which is already playing in some stores around here. Where they have already traded out all the garden/yard, halloween and “summerish” supplies for “xmas lites” and related items. What happened to Halloween? What happened to Thanksgiving? Da‍mmit.

Pumpkin sp*ce is a blend of other sp*ces.

You can make it yourself and there’s nothing artificial about it.

    3 tbsp. ground cinnamon,

    2 tsp. ground ginger,

    2 tsp. nutmeg,

    1 1/2 tsp. ground allspice,

    1 1/2 tsp. ground cloves.

Mix it up and enjoy sprinkling it onto/into what ever you want.

I know people love the stuff in the fall but I much prefer it in pumpkin pie over anything else.

In a seasonal climate, mammals (including humans) tend to crave heavier foods in fall as preparation for winter, which for most mammals (not necessarily humans) is a time when food is scarce. The air is cooler, drier, and we humans tend to go for moist, cooked foods like soups, stews, roasts and cooked vegetables and fruits. The ‘fall’ sp*ces — cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice — work well with such foods providing both flavor and scent (cooked pumpkin by itself is extremely bland). But, a little goes a long way and you don’t really need to ’’pumpkin sp*ce" everything. If you enjoy the smell in the air, just simmer a cinnamon stick and a few cloves in a pan of warm water.

It is getting really hard to write a lucid comment. I am not sure what algorithm is being used to identify questionable language, but it really needs to be improved or at least made intelligent enough to let the writer know what ordinary word is considered offensive. Sp*ce seems a pretty big stretch, especially when the context is about food.

Has it always been the case that Cap’n Eddie’s cat faced the back of the comic frame? Doesn’t matter which way Eddie is facing you only see the back of the cat’s head and it’s lengthy whiskers.

The Offshore Diner reminds me of a place down on Willoughby Spit in Norfolk VA. Long gone or blown away or gentrified. Watermen would pile in after sundown for a drink. I was just a kid went in with a friend to buy cigarettes for her Mom. Different era.

“Pumpkin spice” is mostly cinammon. A significant portion of the population has digestive problems with more than a pinch of cinammon. This is the main reason it is not a “year round spice”. Use sparingly.
