Yeah, about that, I really don’t think they’re going to be happy thoughts.

Maybe they’ll find oil on the property!

Maybe a sink hole to go along with the big snakes in the jungle.

Maybe Gus could have a house built there, if he likes it so much, and Arlo and Janis could move into the house he currently lives in.

Gus is offering them 40 acres and a mule.

I think Gus regrets having bought that piece of land in the first place.

I think Gus is doing everything in his power to make their move doable.

An adventure for Arlo and a nightmare for Janis.

Where did the cane come from?

As far as we know Gus has never GC’d a project like this. I wouldn’t trust his figures that they can buy 10 acres, build a 1,500 sq ft home and have money left over from the sale of their current home.

Build the house…..ten or fifteen years from now il have become the suburbs with a McDonalds, Starbucks and all the rest.

Time to get a new real estate agent.

Did they say or do anything to indicate interest in such a project to Gus?

Gus also sells Arizona desert property, just outside Kingman. Great opportunity, if you don’t need water or electric.

One of my wife’s coworkers has been drooling over 5 acres with a modern 3000 sf shop…and a 1906 teardown house. It’s been on the market for two years at a very firm price.

As far as you know? Where does this extensive knowledge of Gus’ background and knowledge come from?

Amazing how we complicate life unnecessarily

That’s called forcing their hand in doing something Gus wants but is it really what A&J want ? They’re urban types not wild nature types…

The property will look much better with 130 mph winds blowing the jungle. The annual six months of tv weathermen shrieking that you have three minutes to live is just a bonus.

1/2 hour inland of the Atlantic coast, or the Gulf Coast is still prime property. It’s also more peaceful than having all the tourists up your nose day and night. Close to family, close to the water, a boat available for use, neighbors eventually but not too close; this is NOT a bad location.

Dreams and reality in conflict. Gus is not stupid, but he mentioned a few days ago that there was some question of how serious they were about moving. If nothing else, this has shown A&J that they will have to lay down a plan of exactly what they want, how close to Gene they want to be, and research what is available in the area. And building is definitely off the table.

Something to think about? How about….how fast can we get away from this piece of property.

A&J have been talking about it all year but no plans or progress. Gus is a man with experience who knows when you see an opportunity you make a plan and then jump. The offer was totally inappropriate for a 60’s suburban couple entering retirement. It was never serious and he never expected them to accept it.The purpose was to force them to recognize that and make a plan.

Jimmy Johnson reminds me of the prankster that casually drops a rumor and then waits around to watch it spread and see what it turns into.

Arlo has NO idea what taming a “jungle” with a bush hog will be like. Especially if they aren’t content to let most of the place be wild.

Interesting, Panel 2, I think what Arlo is talking about is a Brush Hog, I’ve never heard of a Bush Hog.

I needed to look up the definitions of GC and bush hog. Now I understand bush hog, but found that there are 153 definitions of GC.

Who is surprised? They enjoyed Gus’ condo, modern, seaside, already built. Arlo might have stars blinding him but Janis is seeing the reality. I loved ‘as the crow flies’.

sometimes staying home is the best. We’re retired and live in the rockies. We go and visit our kids on each coast and they visit us. Visiting is one thing, living is another.

Guilty Gus…..

I started to build my home when I was 30 years old. Started with an abandoned summer cottage we fixed up It took me about 15 years doing it as I could afford the materials. Added a second story in ‘95 with the birth of my second child. I went solar with a ground based array when the pandemic started, best move I ever made, now I’m adding a couple of heat pumps that will run off the electric power I produce. Along with a geodesic green house that I built and indoor gardening in the winter we are doing pretty good surviving on our old age government pensions which are really a joke if I hadn’t been prepared,and already own everything I needed.

It’s a comic strip. Whatever Jimmy wants to happen, can and will happen
