Did Tommy’s family move closer to the Big Pink House after Tommy was found? You can see his house from their bathroom window. Why couldn’t he see it from the back yard? Even at maximum zoom, I can’t read the bubble at the extreme middle top of the screen. I can read “The green house” but not the bubble above that bubble. And please don’t tell me how to enlarge the page. I know how. I’ve got it as big as it will go. TIA!
For those asking “What’s with all the cemeteries?!”, that’s how New England and some other areas of the US work. In the days of large family estates/farms, the family was buried in a corner of the property, leading to a small family cemetery. The historical cemetery in the lower middle of the map is the Quinn family cemetery, in an area of the former Quinn Family Estate (the Big Pink House used to be the Quinn family’s, the farm and Cat Shelter were part of the estate as well). We learned about this over the original run of the strip. Individual churches would have cemeteries of their own, as well, such as the biggest cemetery shown being behind the church. There are small towns in my home area of rural Ohio that have three or four cemeteries, one for each church that is/used to be in town, and the occasional farm family cemetery. More than a few of these cemeteries are a cluster of ten or twenty headstones that may not be all that legible nowadays, but people still try to maintain them.
Sunday Funday!!!! Ok, the Mega-Orb gives so much, I’d like to give back to the Orb, but of course, I can’t do it alone. Since soon we will no longer need a spoiler zone, I think if we had a designated spot each week for folks to share something fun, great news, a funny story, a joke, anything. This is not to prescribe that this is the only place or time to do it, if you have great news or something to share at anytime, by all means DO so!
Research has shown that if you regulary journal about what makes you happy, or what you’re grateful for, these things tend to increase in your life. Part of that is that when you look for it, you see it, it registers more deeply, and if you share it, it enlivens us all!!! I look forward to our Mega-Orb community everyday, but I would love to have a place I could go to look for a bunch of uplifting, funny, happy news.
Folks seemed to like the idea so lets keep trying!! Just like the spoiler zone, whoever thinks of it first on a Sunday should start it, even if you don’t have something to share!!!
Is that a bear in the road next to the bookstore and flower shop? Georgia has put so much detail into the map it’s taking full zoom and a magnifying glass to see it all(and I still missed Tommy in the window.)
As for historic cemeteries… if you’re curious about this topic, the “Find a Grave” website makes for quick and simple tracing of ancestors if good records were kept. I’d need to dig out some notes, but I once traced my lineage back to some European ancestors before Columbus.
I even found a photograph of my remotest female ancestor born on this continent and her husband, who immigrated, probably illegally early in the life of the United States. Here’s great great great great great Granny Marie Josephe Ryan Seymour. [Americanized spelling of her husband’s last name, Zamor. A neat name, St. Cyr Zamor. No relation to Lily St. Cyr, though.]
So I’m wondering about a couple of the unlabeled buildings. I’m guessing the big one with the steeple is the Town Hall but what’s the round building across from it? I’m guessing maybe a church?
Gonna have to look at this one on the big screen PC later today. Inquiring minds want to know….who lives in the big white round house, the super modern one with all the windows and the brown (log?) house? And the pinkish building with awnings…could that be the cafe/coffee shop?
This is the first time I’ve seen the map of town where the Big Pink House is and it’s absolutely wonderful. The artwork is really beautiful and so detailed! I am very curious about an unlabeled house though – it’s the white octagon-shaped house right across the street from the Quinn Animal Shelter. I wonder about that one – so interesting! If anyone’s interested, found a link to a list of octagon houses in Canada and the U.S.
Georgia, this may be your best Sunday strip (tho there are so many we love). What a beautiful, picturesque image of where you grew up. Thanks for sharing this.
The “bear” near the book store is a blue US Mail drop box. The white truck has a red stripe and is a US Mail truck. The bubble in the top center at the top of the hill is “another historical cemetery”.
Is the Mail truck driving on the “wrong” side of the dotted line on the road? Perhaps it swerved to avoid hitting a tiny creature. Be careful, little guys…
I want this to hang on my wall!! I would love to have so many shots of the boys to hang all over my office, I am pretty sure all of my clients would love them :) :) We have been busy in my house, fortunately the tumor is slow growing and the kitty cardiologist says the heart murmur isn’t an issue, now we just wait to afford the surgery. Thanks to all of the Mega Orb for your shares, prayers and offerings, please keep sharing! https://www.gofundme.com/f/surgery-for-swiftypaws
In the second panel, Lupin must be feeling pretty mellow as he’s not trying to paw Puck’s tail. Or maybe he would have if it was Elvis’ tail hanging down? 8)
Positive thoughts, please. My oldest son was kicked off disability when they changed the rules and he has to get a job to cover his bills. He’s been looking since April but has only had one interview and didn’t get that job.
I am asking for prayers, boops, hugs, and GOOD thoughts for Tuesday, 6 August.
I’m having surgery to fix a broken wire in my heart to attach to a new ICD being re-installed.
This new ICD has an extra wire, so the doc will try to detach and cap the busted wire, and wiggle two new ones into the heart…attach into the heart, then the other end will be attached to a new ICD.
Of the two wires, one replaces the bad one, and a new one “plugs in” to a new part of the heart.
I should be OK, but there’s always a danger with ANY time you have surgery.
I’m asking now because I’m not sure if I will have time to tomorrow.
