Luann’s a brat. Frank told her exactly how she can find the time to do those things she thinks she needs to do. But this is just more of the same behavior from years gone by—she has always spent more time socializing (on the phone especially) than doing her schoolwork or projects or working on her new year’s resolutions or anything else. She’s almost never helped around the house, either. I would never have let a kid (let alone two kids) grow up in my house and never lift a finger to help. That was Frank and Nancy’s fault, though, for not training them to be contributing members of the family. I’m absolutely amazed that Brad’s done so well, considering what a blob he was in the past. Well…maybe there’s hope for Luann yet.

What is wrong with the answer “no,” especially as it’s true? As long as he does actually look and doesn’t just brush off the question like it doesn’t matter, I don’t see why he can’t tell his wife that she looks beautiful and she accept that answer..Speaking as a girl who never plans to ask that question – or any other such “deathtrap” – of any guy. Ever. I’ll decide how I look for myself, thank you.

No, I think it’s a generally acknowledged fact that there is no right answer to that question. (I dislike questions that can’t be answered, so I’ll never ask it, personally). You can’t possibly be dumb for incorrectly answering a question for which there is no correct answer.

You fellows beat me to it. :-) Great catch, Mikeyj—who’d have thought Brad would read OMNI? There was another back in the 90s where he was reading an issue of Time magazine. Most of the time back then, Brad would come off as painfully stupid, as in the strips of 5/27/01 (can’t name five colors) and 12/31/01 (can’t do simple percentages). This is actually backsliding for him, as he got a 97 on a math final on 5/24/98. At any rate, I have to agree that he clearly had hidden depths, given his motivation to pursue firefighting as a career if nothing else. Now he’s flourishing as a young adult. Very nice.
