Gunther: "Are you ok, Tiff?"
Tiffany: "No"
Gunther: "Do you want to talk about-"
Tiffany: "No! Just...never mind!"
Gunther: "Ok. Uh, is that too tight?"
Tiffany: "Hey, squeeze the life out of me for all I care. Everyone else does"
And, Gerry, I hope you were around yesterday to see all the speculation about Tiffany. Sure, some of it was the same flippant anti Tiffany stuff, but most was about why she might be like that and where she might have come from. It seemed so wrong for you not to be there.
And If I might add along with everyone, GL, I also posted a response and agreed with you, and also hoped for your returnâŠ.and I also implore you to read the comments from yesterdayâŠ. many wouldl really surprise you and youâd see there are many who would appreciate your insight into TiffâŠ.
Thing is, girls like Tiffany rarely change, unless they get into a church group, get âradically savedâ and turn their lives around (which could be another interesting angle), but even then they donât always change that much unless they SEE the rotten way they treat people and make the decision to make drastic changes.

Gerry has left us? :( Thatâs sad, Gerry is a fun poster, while I donât like Tiff, it certainly is no reason for someone to quit. For the longest time, I was the only one who thought Shannon was actually not a bad little girl, other people put her (my favorite character) down; but, I never let it bother me; just kept pointing out how lonely she was and soon, others could see the good in her; so, donât let others hatred of Tiff bother you, you, like anyone else, have a right to your opinion; however, the same goes for everyone, whether they like Tiff or not.
I didnât see Gerryâs post Sunday, but heyâŠ.. All you guys are great fun to read. The world sure would be a dull place if there was only one opinion allowed.
I complain about that and I get a wave of comments that state Luann has out grown her and Toni is taking her place and a bunch of other antiBernice posts.
^^How is pointing out the fact that Toni is now Luannâs main sounding board (which if you look at the strips is the truth) âAnti-Berniceâ? I happen to be very fond of Bern myself, but, Greg seems to be writing her out, as you yourself have said; so pointing out how Bernice is no longer Luannâs closest friend isnât anti-Bernice, but, just stating a fact. As far as the rest of us being âcattleâ; that is a personal insult to the rest of us; being part of a majority opinion doesnât make one cattle, we chose to agree, or disagree with the majority, not follow blindly; get over yourself Lev, you are not âholier than thouâ!
Tiff acts mopey and sad because she didnât get her way, Gunther feels sympathy, starts to get taken advantage of by her, then once she gets her fix she leaves and she learns nothing.
Great comments, Levi. For that matter, lots of input all around. (which is why I seldom get a chance to comment on LuanniverseâŠtoo popular!) But it sure is one of my favourites! Why? Because a lot of the characters remind me so much of my high school aquaintances. Who didnât have an archetypical Tiffany in their crowd? Or a Gunther? A Bernice, etc, etc?Sitting back and enjoying the patterâŠâŠ
Gerry Lee, just in case you didnât get a chance, I wanted to reemphasize a couple of things from when I responded, right as soon as I saw your post on SundayâŠ==I agree with you how itâs unfair it seemsâŠ. I related how many people will flock to a program about a serial killer and some even excuse such a character, because of the premise that "the character also gets the âbad guyâ ", but will unfairly condemn a 17 Y.O. comic strip character who has committed no crimes⊠and to me, it seems truly unfairâŠ. ==And as others have stated, many of us (definitely including myself) also state views that are not necessarily shared by everyone, but still we all have a right to post and express our views, and yours was original, and positiveâŠâŠ youâd find that amongst the negative posters, there are those that you can engage in healthy and constructive discussions with, and you add a great point of viewâŠ.==Tiffany has been portrayed as âLuannâs nemesisâ, but she is a very important member of the cast, as portrayed in many promotional pictures and the like for this strip⊠itâs just the way that Professor Moriarty was integral to Sherlock Holmes, among other examplesâŠ. as Lev has stated many times, if everyone in the strip acted and were drawn exactly the same way, with exactly the same expressions and the like, there would really be no stripâŠ. so again, please reconsider⊠and also again, youâd be pleasantly surprised at how many have actually commented things that youâd be encouraged to readâŠ.-Jay
If the truth were known, there is usually someone like Tiff in any group of girls/ womenâŠ.no matter the age of the individuals in the group. I donât think Tiff realizes how her personality and actions are grating on everyoneâs nerves ( including many of the readers of this comic). She truly believes she is perfectâŠ.and above everyone else.
Tiff may be self- centered, but she also seems to be very ambitious. She joined this group because she aspires to be an actress which is also playing a huge role in how she interacts with the others. One piece of advice job counsellors always give is âif you want a specific job you have to see yourself in itâ and act the part as much as possible. Tiff is certainly doing that.
The fact that so many adults are enjoying this comic is terrific but the goal isnât supposed to be to shoot people down because of their comments. At the same time, it is not our place to continually drag the concept of âa sex life for the charactersâ into every single discussion on this thread. This is still a kids comic strip and I would strongly bet parents have stopped their kids from reading the comments because some of them have become a titch too âblueâ.
This strip is supposed to be light reading and some are making it a battlefield of viewpoints. Everyone should be welcome here even if they donât accept certain ideas about the characters.
@ Leviticuswhat youâve got to realize is tiffinay is the villain of this piece think about your own high school days wasnât there someone just as arrogant
What amazes me is, if some donât like whatâs been said about a character or if for some pathetic person are attacked themselves in the comment section..Then perhaps, just enjoy the comics you like, but just tell yourself to donât check the comment section...We didnât have them when these things were in newspapers..I guess the though of getting the chance of others reading what you think is appealing. But there is a price..Garry Lee, I do hope youâre still reading and enjoying the strip and maybe just not stopping by here.
Having raised three children, very close in age, one a spineless idiot, one a psychopath and one a decent human being, I am quite sure that people are born wired differently.
Itâs just a comic strip for Peteâs sake. These characters are not real people so even though there are vain self centered people in the world Tiff isnât one of them. She is just lines on paper or a computer screen.
Wasnât her being booted by the Chamber of Commerce for misbehavior because of TJâs scam? And while she has done bad things in the past she has been less bad lately was even willing to help TJ try to dispose of Ann Eiffel.
I wish I were more tike Sheraton SL: being able to see the plus side without all the negatives.Unfortunately my mind focusses more on what could go wrong :(
Awww poor Tiff, playing the victim again dear? The thing with girls like you Tiffany is that you never see how much you are responsible for the situations you find yourself in. Maybe if you actually cultivated a talent for something other than obnoxious self-interested babble youâd have real friends Tiff.
Iâve been reading Luann for about 6-7 years now. The last two years on-line after we stopped getting the paper. I am sometimes blown away by the number of âpostsâ. Your posts are always fun and informative. But thereâs lots of drivel out there by some posters thatâs worthless. I think the point of the comment by fosdick (echoed by John and chefwen) is that some people seem to hang here all day writing assumptions to the personality or thoughts of a make believe person. Or little witty banter with songs or commercials. I wish there was a way to do a âsortâ so one could just delete much of this stuff. At least you keep it real and what it is. Yours, very short comments, and a couple other regular commenters are usually all i like to read now. Iâm sure Iâll offend some folks and apologize up front if this strikes a nerve..
You know, Iâm new to the comments section on this site, and I have to say what I have seen is rather sad. I expect some people to be all for the âbadâ characters because thatâs how comic strips work. What I didnât expect was to see people jumping down each otherâs throats over opinions. If someone wants to believe that Tiffany can change, then thats great. If someone else wants to think that she never will, thats fine too. There is absolutely no need to get so worked up over this, or any, comic strip.
Being new, I have to say that if these comments were the first I had read for the comic strip, I may not have kept reading. Itâs OK to be excited about a particular character, but please keep the personal attacks and insults out of the comments section. Donât call people names or generalize. Otherwise, all you will accomplish is to scare off any new commenters that might happen to read the strip. If you do that, then you will be arguing with the same people forever with no new people to offer fresh perspectives.
In summary: â Comment what you like about the strip, but leave the personal attacks out of your comments â Leave inappropriate comments about ANY character out of your comments â Try to remember that there are people behind these usernames who have feelings and lives outside this strip â Enjoy the comic as a comic, and move on with your day
Yâall know weâre talking about a comic strip, right? Not real people. These are plot points and punch lines, not intended to be taken as life-changing moments.
I said it before, and Iâll say it again⊠some people have jobs and schedules that allow them to comment more frequently, some not⊠some have a way that they like to express themselves, some donât ⊠==But to assume and generalize that some posters have no life? What about Facebook or Twitter or the like?âŠ. do the people saying âget a lifeâ go there all the time? Or watch a certain TV show or network all the time? Following some celebrity?⊠What do we talk about at work all the time? Be honestâŠ.Itâs easy to tell people to âget a lifeâ, but Iâm sure that somebody somewhere is probably saying the same to us at some point in time⊠what entertains one does not entertain all.. what some people do, some donât⊠but never assume that the people have no life, because youâre not there with themâŠ.weâre just posters on a screen, hereâŠ==Personally, I myself only read a select number of comicsâŠ.10 or 12âŠ. of that, I only post to even fewer on a regular basisâŠ. with the exception of this strip and 1 or 2 others, the rest are âone joke gagâ strips, so no need to post a bunch everywhere else⊠here is the only place that I post the most⊠why? For one thing, Luann is an involving strip⊠it is popular for a reason.. story and characters⊠more in depth ones than some others⊠also, when I first saw the comments on here, I saw how fun it was, and how âwitty and creativeâ peopleâs posts were⊠it stimulated me to want to, as well⊠so sure we all have differences of opinion⊠tastes, too⊠but as someone said yesterday, if we donât like a comment, weâre not forced to read it⊠we can scroll onâŠâŠ.
As far as getting a life, a life that revolves around flirting, looking and dressing like a whore, being completely self-centered and totally vain is not a worthy life or someone that should be liked at all (and definitely not worthy of emulating).
For what is it worth, I really admire Tiffâs spunk and can do attitude. I have written many times that she actually stirs the pot and gets things done. I look for her to rebound in this current arc â she may take a few hits, but any decent villain always rebounds.
Wow. Condemn a girl for a couple of youthful pranks. We judge these kids so morally when they are teens and when they are adults they get rewards and praise for bad behavior, whether in religion, politics, finance, or whatever. I think Tiff will learn from these endeavors and, for example, end up owning, lawfully, the mortgage on Luannâs house. And, in her cheery fashion, will pick through your stuff on the curb for some charity event while having Lu evicted. Just business.
ahem coughs politelyI donât normally comment, but some of you people out there in Luann land take this stuff waaaaaay too seriously. Attacking 2d pen and ink cartoon strips indicates a level of disconnect from reality that is a bit frightening. Maybe some of you should get a life, no? Iâm just sayin.
Itâs just a comic strip. It happens to be my current favorite one, but itâs just a comic strip. Getting offended by what anyone on here says is laughable. I think you are doing the right thing Gerry. If it hurts you to read to other peopleâs comments then not doing so is what I would recommend. Peopleâs views on Luann or Greg Evans are not of much value. The only thing that matters is how you feel about yourself. So, I say ignore the trolls and pervs that infiltrate this comments section. Itâs your self-esteem that needs working on. Good luck with that. When you are able to find confidence in your voice come on back.
Had fun today. Kind of a joy to respond to the energetic comments from so many. Appreciate our deeply knowledgeable and persistent posters. Off to alternative reality #2 â setting up a Google Voice phone configuration for a non-profit. Say, where did Donnie go, btw.
Too bad, I was interested in seeing Tiffanyâs master plan go into actionâŠunless this is it? Play on the sympathy of people to attract Quill? Ooh, very clever.
without conflict, there is no story. There has to be a âbad guyâ, in order to see the âgood guyâ â that said, it is a good comic strip with a well written âbad girlâ! I enjoy it all.
Sorry, guy, but Tiffâs designed to be the bad guy. She does stuff that is just plain wrong and bad, and then whines when she gets a lesson handed to her.
Glad sheâs your fav. Character but that doesnât mean she gets to stop being the villian.
Oh come now. The comments here are downright polite and cordial. If you want to see rude and obnoxious check out the comments at http://www.nj.com/comics-kingdom/index.ssf?feature_id=Funky_Winkerbean
I agree that there should be bad guys or else it would be like most other strips (which are more funny but bit one-dimensional). However there could a number of bad guys in luann apart from a hateful bimbo. Why not just have TJ, Ann, world, crystal and Bernice be the bad guys? Thatâs plenty for this strip.
I appreciate your comments, Leviticus. (Interesting juxtaposition of screen name with sensitive comments â Leviticus being a Bible book of list of abominables heh heh/)
Itâs a comic strip and one can take both the characters and posters too seriously. Iâve ragged on Tiffany, myself. I also suspect strongly that Greg has the character firmly in mind in a more rounded way.
One can see that there is a hypersensitivity in her. Such people often exhibit traits like Tiffany to mask their insecurities and pain. If Greg ever does a background arc on her, I will be happy to see it.
Of the teens, only Tiffany and maybe Crystal have not grown as they have aged. The coterie around Luann have. All are deeper now than when the strip started. Even TJ. who was kind of the male counterpart to Tiffany in his own way â the heavy, complicating Bradâs life. Perhaps Tiff will have her turn.
Give Tiffany some credit. At least Tiffany knows what she wantâs; isnât afraid to go after it, and doesnât wait for someone else to make the first move.
So she behaves badly toward people and pouts when she isnât accepted and adored. No sympathy from me. It would be different if she were kind and was still rejected. Then you can fault the others. But she would rather indulge in self-pity than try to learn from what her actions do to her.
âYou freaks need to get a lifeâŠâ^Thereâs a saying that when you point a finger, then three are pointing back at you.. (as an exercise, make a pointing gesture, and count the digits not extending out in the point⊠) .not name calling here personally, just saying that everyone spends time on somethingâŠ. for example, some people wait in line for a âsmart phoneâ thatâs already obsolete as soon as you buy it, and the next week the latest one comes out⊠as I mentioned earlier, thereâs also Facebook, Youtube, many others⊠which one of these (or another) do you honestly like? Even sports? Something? You have to fill your time with something (Work is work, and Iâm sure you like to have some kind of fun afterward, maybe even duringâŠ) I wonder if youâd get mad if someone somewhere said the same to you⊠calling you a âfreakâ? Okay, thenâŠ.
Do you suppose that we could get gocomics.com to post some kind of permanent âTHIS IS ONLY A COMIC STRIP AND ALL THE POSTERS BELOW HAVE BEEN INFORMED OF THISâ banner above the comment column to possibly stem the flow of inane observations like weâve had tody?
Does anyone remember the show Little House on the Prairie? Nellie was a horrible brat and mean to everyone, she eventually grew up and became decent. Hopefully the same thing will happen to Tiffany.
Iâm kind of hoping Evans does some character developement with Tiff. There may be a reason she acts like she does. Maybe all the need for attention â of any kind â is a cry for help. Of course maybe sheâs manipulating those around her, but a little depth to Luann fansâ farorite villaness sounds like fun.
I get the real reason you are leaving the group here. is not only do you identify with tiff.is that possibly in some ways you actually act like her in real life.you EXPECT to be the center of attention from everyone. you expect that you are supposed to get your way every single time.âŠâŠ.in many ways, your attitude about tiff reminds me of my husband ex-wife in how she felt her fav chars should be treated like. since she did identify with themâŠ..
Is it possible that Greg Evans is not making a point about Tiffany but about the fact that there are nice boys/men out there like Quill who will go the extra mile to prove their faithfulness?
So, anyone who disagrees with your opinion that Luann has a pigâs nose and is nothing but shallow, whereas Bernice can do no wrong, is âcattleâ according to you. You have the only original ideas. Anyone who has other ideas, by definition, is just parroting â or should I say âmooingâ â what others have already opined.
You have a very high opinion of yourself. Comments like those you made to Gerry Lee explain why no one shares your high opinion of you, and why you canât convince anyone that Luann is horrible and Bernice is wonderful.
Trying to exchange ideas with you, to continue your animal motif, is like trying to teach a pot-belly pig to dance. It doesnât work, and it only enrages the piggy.
Please consider a screen name more appropriate to your viewpoint.
Wow. We usually only get advised once a day that it is only a comic strip. I lost count today. I wonder how many sock puppets weâre being honored with.
Antagonism is one of the basic tenets of entertainment in society. No story told goes without having some antagonist, some neâer do well, some villain. They are an integral part of the story. Without the bad, how do you distinguish the good? And I donât know too many people (none actually) that wouldnât get bored into a catatonic stated without the push and pull of good and evil in their entertainment choices. Take all of Tiffanyâs, Dirkâs, Annâs, maybe even some of T.Jâs scenes out of the strip, what would you be left with? Would you still enjoy it? Would it still move you enough to comment? Me, personally, no it wouldnât. Iâm old school. I root for the good guys but without the bad guys who would the good guys have to overcome?
As far as the supercilious comments about getting a life and that this is a comic strip, I would like to echo IamJayBluE and othersâ comments. Why is it that I have to âget a lifeâ if I want to engage in a lively conversation about my favorite comic strip? Do you not watch tv or read books or go to the movies? I can just imagine that you must only engage in the most intellectual of conversations at all times.
Itâs all good. Theyâre teenagers and still growing up. Remember yourself as a teenager and how different you are now? I feel sorry for Tiffany because she doesnât really know what she wants, though itâs pretty obvious that she is jealous of Luann. She doesnât know how to express herself yet. Iâm hoping that the next arc will feature a new guy and that he falls in love with Tiffany.
âShe is intelligent and funâ^I also think that she helps us see different aspects of Luann⊠instead of thinking that Luann âcould do no wrongâ, or that âthereâs only one way to look at thingsâ, Bern seems to add a different take, and a funny response to both another character, and the situation (like during the âroad tripâ, or when Luann left herself open for their âzingsâ when she related that strange dream with Aaron and the âx-ray eyesâ)
Ox, fine. TJ, no, no, a thousand times no. Les, no. Jonah, pretty please. Rosaâs visiting cousin, good plan. Elwood, OK. Guntherâs newly found half brother, could be. There are options for both summer flings and permanent possibilities available.
This only cartoon the author will write the script the way he or she want to so many take thiscartoon way to much like was real life I did not think some of you that stupid
These are comic strip characters, after all, which for the most part means they are âtypesâ.
If you think commenters snipe here, you ought to read Funky Winkerbean & Crankshaft on Comics AZ. They are so bad that some have to be pulled. Not just snarky. Mean-spirited, attacking, aggressive.
I like all the characters in Luann, and Tiff and Ann are the gals we love to hate. Thbey are necessary to the script.
Whoever said this, " Iâm hoping that the next arc will feature a new guy and that he falls in love with Tiffany." Iâm sorry but I lost you in the 200+ comments, but although I think this would be an amusing arc, I think it more likely an Elwood, say, would be a match for Tiffany where there is mutual benefits that have little to do with emotion.
ps. in all the back and forth today, I realize I love all the characters here and miss them all when gone too long.
âAnd who would he match? Ox and Tiffany or perhaps TJ and Tiffany.â^Well, Iâll humor you and engage in this question, (even if it is a âtongue in cheek" one), as it is more constructive than what went on earlierâŠ.Iâll answer this way:
Maybe for the first one, definitely for the second one⊠definitely no , that isâŠ.. ==Yesterday, I was mentioning that since TJ threw her âunder the fire engineâ and got away without a scratch, pretty much, why would she want someone like him, unless either her inner esteem is really lower than even the low that it would seem, or she would be one incredibly forgiving personâŠ.. or she has a very short memoryâŠ. with Oxford, like youâve said, as the âjockâ could be accepted in the âAâ circles, so in that sense would fit into her ambitions somewhat, in maintaining status (though he has a big heart and not so much a big mind at times), and she seemed to genuinely appreciate his defense of her against LeslieâŠ.==But to be honest, if, as people are now wondering, if Gunther would play matchmaker, it just may be possible that another character could come about, whether temporary, or if sheâs getting a long-term personâŠmaybe another foil/antagonist for Luann and/or Quill⊠but before today, I didnât consider that there would be any matchmaking going on⊠but this question is thought provoking, and constructive, compared to earlierâŠ.
Take a vote. See how is pro TJ and who is anti TJ. Please, no neutrals, take a stand. When you get the tally, see how it adds up.^^Im not pro or con, I think the TJ character is a jerk, but, I also find him very entertaining
To the many of you that have made the astute observation that this is only a comic strip, please allow me to respond. (Etc)^^Well said Lev, youâve redeemed yourself a bit, here!
Answer#2: Been there, done thatâŠ^^I have every issue of the Innovation LIS series, itâs a real shame that the company went out of business before the last story endedâŠ. now they are still lost, but, no longer together!
I made my comment this morning and went off to work. Now the day is almost done and I signed in for a break. everything made me laugh. all the comments were great and everyone here has a good sense of humor. Good points from some on just having fun.
everyone who reads and/or comments to this cartoon has their favorites. I like them all; mostly Luann, Oz, and Crystal. I think TJ is mysterious and not so bad a person.
I think that Tiff is a pig (without the snout). glad to see her get rejected finallyâŠ
I wonder if this conversation that Tiff and G-man are having will only go this far, or is this the âwheels of the plotâ gently stirring the arc into another gear?âŠ..
UmmmâŠ. She fired Zane cause she wanted Bernice for herself, remember?
Well yes I do. I think that Ann may have wanted them both. She realized as long as the two of them were together, she would always be on the outside looking in. She finally chose Bernice over Zane.^^interesting theory, and I suppose plausible, since we know Ann âgoes both waysâ
No problem with somebody liking Tiffany â I didnât like the trashing of Luann. I donât think Luann is mean-spirited at all and tho I think she sometimes can be rude and even offensive, she shows that she is learning the ârulesâ of civility that every teen eventually needs to learn.
So how could the writer display Berniceâs interesting attributes? Please make that list. Tomorrow would be fine.^^Just read any story arc featuring Bernice before Zane left her⊠since then, Bern has generally been as fun as a toothache, but, before then, she was a great character with a much more well-rounded personality, than she appears to be now.
Well, for a time earlier (especially yesterday), I thought GL would have been able to see that there was some encouraging commentsâŠ. GL would definitely not have enjoyed the comments today⊠GL was just as discouraged about the posts as much about the âanti-Tiffâ⊠GL really wanted to see some more positivityâŠ.
It seems like the strip has missed out on some opportunities with this drama camp plotline. After three weeks of strips, the only people who have been shown at the camp are Quill, Tiffany, Gunther, and the camp director. None of the other campers have had a word of dialogue. Weâre just seeing the regular characters interact with people they already know well. This sequence could have been a good opportunity for them (especially Tiffany) to meet new people who could either be friends or rivals to them, but instead itâs just the same small group in a different location.
Ben and Crystal might be cool together. Especially since Crystal already has an awkward history with Bernice over Zane. Did I say a couple days ago that Ben was too dull for Crystal? I guess I lack consistency. Also, I like Crystal and Knute together, so Iâm being a bit inconsistent there too.
I donât usually comment, but this seems to be âopen mike night.â (love the give and take dialog by the way) Some have lamented on what seems to be Berniceâs dwindling appearances. Looking back when I was in high school, it seems that most of us didnât have exactly the same circle of friends when we graduated as we had walking in the door as freshman. The person I had as a best friend chose a different path our senior year, thus beginning our separation. We all know in life things change and evolve, people take those other paths. Maybe this is whatâs happening with Luann and Bernice. They are changing and maturing (hopefully), so their needs for friendship change as well. And maybe this is just a different angleâŠ.
Ooh! What about Tiffany and Ann? We donât really have much in the way of evidence that Tiffany would not be interested, and together they might be a viable menace.
Gunther is such a sweetheart. Heâll get it out of her. She has a deep need. It will be nice to see the deeper side of her. She reminds me of Nelly on Little House on the Prairie. She just needed the right guy. Tiffany needs someone who will look past her facade. Even her best friend doesnât know that part of her.
âBrad is virgin. I state this and people say that once TJ said âshowerâ and that is their proof that he is not.â-We can assume he is or that he is not.We donât really know without being told.Well, like so many other things in life, we know without any proof, often with proof our beliefs are wrong, but that doesnât stop us from believing.
When you have a character who constantly objectifies herself and diminishes herself into scantily-clad beauty, then she is the one who had cheapened herself. Others are just pointing that out, not âhating on her for no reason.â

Just have a good time everyone! Lighten up!

To offer a fresh perspective (hopefully)âŠ

Would it still move you enough to comment? âAnd who would he match?

It would be a shame to end this at 249 posts soâŠ. hereâs 250! :p

" Iâll NEVER find anything funny about that sickening action"-Quite possibly they were serious. Some get lost in their minds.

When you have a character who constantly objectifies herself and diminishes herself into scantily-clad beauty, then she is the one who had cheapened herself. Others are just pointing that out, not âhating on her for no reason.â

I wonder how sad is Tiffanyâs family life. Probably her parents donât love her. Poor thing.
