So sorry, for the loss of your pup, Sophie! Pets become such great friends and wonderful family members, It is so sad to loose a good friend. Love your comic strip!
So sorry for you. It is so unbelievably hard when they leave us. Glad she is memorialized in your cartoon strip and we will enjoy the strip all the more for knowing there was a real Sophie.
I’m sorry to hear that lovely Sophie passed away. I hope writing the strips will bring happy memories to mind in addition to the sadness of her not being there any more.
I’m sorry, Brian. I know what it’s like to lose pets. But Sophie’s memory will live on in your comics. Please don’t stop drawing it. So I assume that your little guy isn’t so little anymore and is about 13 years old now?
We put a leash on our dogs’ collars; they put a leash on our hearts. I will love my dachshunds Rosie and Heath forever. Sophie, play forever in Heaven with them, and we all see you then.
So sorry that you’ve lost your Sophie; she was obviously beloved, and had a wonderful life with you. Thank you for sharing that life with us! Meadowwrue
I lost my own beloved Sophiedog in the last few years and watching the antics of your Sophie has been so sweet for me…… RIP Sophie and thanks for all the joy-
There are no words, Brian. In time, another lovely, dopey lab will adopt you. Sophie will give her a nudge. We lost Half-Time over a year ago and it is still painful. Thank you for sharing her with us all. Sincere condolences to the Anderson household. So difficult.
I am so sorry! I know how much losing such a good friend can hurt. At least you have the comfort of knowing you gave her a good life and a loving home.
Rest in peace real Sophie – I am sorry for your loss Brian. My Nellie (The Lady Eleanor Dogby) Was Born October 8 2003 and left us August 2016. We will meet again – but the waiting is hard
a beautiful and fitting tribute – let the feelings flow and don’t hold back – when I loose a good friend like that – and there have been a few over the years – I cry like a little girl
Wow. Thanks you all for the sweet words. She’d been with me for the past 13 years, 24/7. We were never apart. Traveled by car, stayed at only dog friendly hotels and she even came on my honeymoon.
But her spirit in the strip reminded me what her life was about. She is, in a sense, immortal.
WOW! When was the last time Dog Eat Doug went to 146 comments? Just goes to show you, Brian, that while most may not comment day-by-day, your strip is read and enjoyed by a great many! We look forward to many more episodes of the eternal puppy shenanigans.
So sorry for your loss! She’ll be waiting for you on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge. In the meantime, she’ll be making heaven a little more adorable and sassy.
I’m so sorry Brian. Sophie is up there, playing in the sun, chewing a good bone, wrestling with her pals, rolling in the green grass, napping in the warm sun, and waiting for the day the pack is made whole.
Thank you for giving her a GREAT life and letting us be part of it.
I wish someone had given Jesus a dog.As loyal and loving as mine.To sleep by His manger and gaze in His eyesAnd adore Him for being divine.
As our Lord grew to manhood His faithful dog,Would have followed Him all through the day. While He preached to the crowdsand made the sick wellAnd knelt in the garden to pray.It is sad to remember that Christ went away.To face death alone and apart. With no tender dog following close behind,To comfort its Master’s Heart. And when Jesus rose on that Easter morn,How happy He would have been,As His dog kissed His handand barked it’s delight,For The One who died for all men.
Well, the Lord has a dog now,I just sent Him mine,The old pal so dear to me.And I smile through my tearson this first day alone,Knowing they’re in eternity.Day after day, the whole day through,Wherever my road inclined,Four feet said, “Wait,I’m coming with you!”And trotted along behind.
Oh no, Sophie, I am so sorry but now you’ve crossed Rainbow Bridge and your life will be wonderful while you wait for your family. Sincere sympathy to you Brian and your family.
I grieve with thee. She will be there waiting at the Rainbow Bridge. Like that gent said on Twilight Zone, don’t want to go to no heaven that don’t allow dogs (or cats).
Oh, it is so hard to loose a pet, and way before 13 years go by. I feel your pain, anyone who has ever loved a dog or cat that much knows that pain.Sorry for your loss of your little cutie. Those are so sweet pickers of her and even with little Dougie.
You’ll see her again. Don’t worry. My best friend died in a car crash. My wife visited a psychic to talk to HER mom and my friend showed up and said that the first thing he was aware of in “the afterlife” was his childhood dog licking him on his hand. I am NOT afraid. Just be confident you will see your furry loved one again, and you will. One Love!
Aw, I am so sorry. I have so enjoyed your portrayal of the special relationship between a boy and his dog. Or, a dog and her boy. You could just feel it was based on experience. Condolences to you and yours.
I am so sorry. My puppy is 13 1/2. I have a ramp to help him into the truck to visit my grandkids. The folks at the shelter told us he might make 50 lbs. He topped out at 107. He is my bestest…
