Could that music be coming from Hair? (Perhaps ‘tis Aerosmith’s “Living on the Edge”… or Alfred Yankovic’s parody thereof “Living in the Fridge.”)

Wonder who will open the door?? A new guy? I hope so – she needs a new guy. Piro is not working out considering he’s secretive and evasive, Gunther is too brotherly, and Nil too snarky, too much like herself. Time for a new guy. What would be the perfect guy for Bernice?

I think that some guys on here have gotten a little over-zealous in saying that the term “tramp stamp” is sexist. I only recall a few guys commenting. It would seem better for women to speak for themselves. But I have my speculations about how most women would feel.

I think that a very few women might ever take exception to it, but none of them would have a lower-back tattoo. (You can always find someone who objects to anything.)

I think it would be virtually impossible to find a woman with a LB tattoo, who would indignantly say, “This is not a tramp stamp! This is sublime and beautiful body art”.

Most women with a LB tattoo would call it a “tramp stamp” themselves, and laugh about it. (Just like women referring to themselves as “this broad”.) And I think that most women who lack one would also find the term humorous.

I recall a really nice young lady who wore a very revealing costume to a Halloween party. She commented that she was glad that she had a good chance to dress “slutty”.

It’s natural for women – and especially young women – to want to be provocative. And they have good humor about it. It’s certain anal-retentive men who get on some gallant PC crusade to protect them.

Granted ,I graduated decades ago, but I don’t remember our RA’s doing anything like what Bernice is doing. They mainly enforced the commonwealth’s liquor laws, report physical damage to the building ( toilet stopped up, hallway light broken, etc.) and were there if someone got REALLY out of control. Like dumping garbage in the hall, or screams coming out of a room.

I feel very sad for Bernice. I can understand her mindset here. She is not a mean, horrible person like many are suggesting. What I feel is being shown here very nicely by Greg is that Bernice is so unsure of herself that she deals with most of her emotions by deflection. She is now deflecting her anger at Luann being friends with Tara into what she wrongly feels is an appropriate venue…. doing her “duty” as an RA to “enforce” all the rules.

To Bernice, this feels safe. It feels expected. It is how she always deals with her emotions…. she tries to ignore them and uses supposed “structure” and “rules” to give her a way to not have to deal with negative emotions she feels.

People have often said she is like Gunther, but while there are some similarities in that they both tend to “be in their own heads” most of the time…. the difference for Bernice, is that I think she balks at any negative emotions (sadness, anger, etc) by blocking them out. Gunther of late is not good at dealing with emotions either, but his go-to response of late is to get very angry.

Now, Bernice is angry at the moment, but it is different in that she is still pushing her emotions into some sort of structure by following the rules that she can enforce.

Hmmmm, removing the gum would be far more efficient, faster, and more effective than making the report. Bernice has had many shortcomings through the years, but lack of efficiency might be new.

Cleaning up in a freshman dorm is a challenge. Very long ago i worked as a weekend garbage hauler in a freshman dorm quad to help pay for my own education. It was among multiple jobs i worked around my class schedules. One night the young ones had had a huge party, and the amounts of bottles to remove the next morning was prodigious, but i got it done. If memory serves, that was the same weekend when the kitchen on a nearby hall was left in such havok by the revellers, that it required clean-up by me just to do my job. After i finished and left, with so much garbage properly disposed, they brought out yet more finished bottles and filled the kitchen garbage cans again. One guess who got in trouble for the garbage cans being full…

What time of day is it? I thought the body art expo was a daytime affair, or certainly it would start by early evening. I thought the rule that we saw Bernice enforcing previously was no loud music in the rooms after 10:00PM. Is this “no loud music, ever!” a new rule that she just now came up with? When I was in college the R.A. was just there for big things that came up once in a while, not to conduct regular rounds of patrolling the halls, enforcing rules, recording infractions, and conducting inspections. This is much more like a military academy or a seminary than a university.

A couple weeks ago I thought Bernice was just more practical and less adventurous. There’s nothing wrong with that because some people just prefer that. It doesn’t automatically make them boring.

Now she’s just being a hag. She didn’t speak so harshly about Tara when telling her about the stolen TV, but now that Luann is talking to Tara it’s like she’s taking it personally.

She didn’t used to be like this in high school or even in the early Moony Uni days. She even wanted to be more of a party person and grow as a person. What gives?

While a lot of folks are finding Bernice annoying and upsetting, I believe there is a different dynamic going on. Over the years, IMO, Bernice has been a good, nice character. Yes, she has had a bit of a snarky edge at times, but I think her actions today and her occasional “snarkiness” are a reflection of her own deep seated insecurities. She is “acting out” from her emotional pain today by grasping at the one thing that she finds comfortable and relies on…. rules and regulations. When she is being “snarky” I think it often is an indication of her attempting to suggest that she “doesn’t care” about something she does care about

Today, all the doors have doorknobs on the left side. Back in 2015, all the doors had knobs on the right side.

    What a very strange dorm.

But the room number appears vertically in the corner over the doorknob. Only a smudge today but it is there. Is it important that the smudge is there today because tomorrow we will see the number 213?

And over a left or right side doorknob?

The mind reels while the cerebellum waltzes.

Yesterday’s strip was so elegant, with Bernice left to stew in her own juices and possibly realizing how empty her life has become. Today Bernice is back to being the thing everyone hates about her. What I’d like to see is Bernie the unbearable banging on the door of the room with the loud music only to answered by someone asking “what music” then Bernie realizing that she hallucinated the whole and ships herself to the community mental health hospital because she’s gone insane.

Bernice deals with negative emotions by trying to control what can’t be controlled. The only situation she can control right now is to be over-functioning in her job, which will only hurt herself. Some people never recover from that, because it is so easy to rationalize that they are doing a good job. The antidote is to understand that we do not control other’s feelings or activities, and increase one’s tolerance for confusion. Let it go, Bernice!

Never having gone away to a college, I have no appreciation of an RA, but I have been getting an eyeful reading about Bernice’s position, both what she can do, what she should do, and also what RA’s don’t do based on other’s experiences. I am just curious to see who it is behind that door, It probably is not Tiffany or Gunther since she mentioned a specific hallway, and I would guess she knows which hallway Tiffany is in, but who knows. We have one more day before foible Sunday, so lets see. I bet Greg makes us wait.

Multiple hallways. I feel sorry for the residents of this dorm. Where I went, we had one RA per 12 rooms. One RA per hallway. The hallways of this dorm intersect at right angles. Nobody is going to live in a windowless room. The dorm is most likely shaped like an E or a comb. Meaning those hallways are dead ends. So when residents see the RA going down a hallway she doesn’t live in, it is never a casual stroll.

Shame on Moony for having only one RA per floor.
