To me the most amazing and unexpected of the many tributes to Franklin the week she died was when the Welsh Guard Band, at the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace, played “Respect.”
I always try to guess what the pun will be without reading all the way through. I didn’t guess this one…very clever! (And I can still hear Nixon saying, “Sock it to ME????” )
If I was not such an optimist, always hoping things will get better, this one would be enough to delete Pearl’s from my list. A sucker for PUNishment, I guess.
Once more unto the breech dear friends (and patsis) … striving to lead us through a myriad of semi-meaningless comments to arrive at a long awaited pun. Ranks up there with the “To Bea or Not to Bea (Arthur), that is the Quest Chan” or “All we are saying is Give Pisa chants”. Thank you and keep up the good work.
I will never understand how there are people who don’t find these a complete waste of time. I usually skip the strip on Sundays just to avoid seeing another gawdawful groaner like this.

If you’re going by The Isley Brothers’ implication of the phrase, socking it to him should have been more sensual unless Pastis is a masochist.
