Elvis watches the fire but the robber mice are keeping an eye on him. I love how relaxed and warm dear Goldie is all sprawled by the fire. And I love “robot candles!”
Well, thank Cat that the Woman had the presence of mind to previously fill the bathtub with water! Now that the power is out, they don’t have to worry about not being able to flush the toilet!
You’re right, Elvis. Fire could cause a serious hazard, could burn the entire continent, all the smoke would cause pollution, and not to mention contributing to global warming! Fire bad! Fire baaad!
Oh no! Evil robot candles! They’re obviously plotting to get rid of all the inferior biological creatures and take over the world! Look, they’re are gleaming in eevil glee!
Well, you can, Elvis, it’d just require electricity, and the bigger the robot fire, the more electricity it’d need, and the more likely it won’t be battery-operated, which in turn means it wouldn’t work when the powers out anyway.
Actually there’s some very nicely designed electric and/or gas fireplaces that are VISUALLY appealing. They can be quite calming and I’ve seen them in healthcare waiting rooms, etc.
Nice – But not the same. Gimmee a wood burning fire ANYDAY !!! (With the safety features!) …
Our guys like the “bright warm.” Waffle will try to stretch out over all of the love seat in front of our fireplace, keeping it all for himself. He’s almost long enough. 8-ball prefers the rocking chair which is a little further away, probably because he has longer fur—a real fluffapurrrus.
OT: We had a bit of a scare yesterday when I got home and Sebastian was no where to be found.
Not in the food pantry. Not in the bedroom. Not – it would seem – anywhere in the house. Confirmed when he did not come for the rattling of the treat jar.
We immediately sequestered the other 4 cats, and went out to look for Sebby.
Thank the heavens, he was hiding underneath my husband’s workshop, and, after some bribery (oh the wonder of treats), I managed to grab him and pull him out. We believe he snuck out that morning – it was still dark when we left, and I was distracted – but our little fearless explorer, who is an indoor-only kitty, spent the day under the workshop. Needless to say, we were so relieved to find him, and I’ll be extra super vigilante when leaving from now on!
Trust me, Elvis, robot fire isn’t all it’s cracked up to be imho. It wouldn’t be half as cozy as the real thing with crackles and pops and the glittery molten embers. :) Buzzy Mouse looks a bit sad. What’s wrong Buzzy?
It’s funny; my late Tazi-Kat was petrified of the fire in the fireplace – wouldn’t even enter the family room when it was going – but loved the “robot fire” in the formal parlor. He may have looked just like Pucky, but his personality was pure Elvis!

Elvis is standing by with the fire extinguisher because he knows, fire is tricksy! You can’t trust it! Fireplace or not!

Oh, Elvis. Robot fires are rather pricier than robot tealights.♥

Nice to see that pleasant happy Lupin is back. I guess he’s over his mad about Goldie taking his recorder and then moving in as an interloper!
OliveO'Sudden almost 5 years ago
(Safety quibble: The fire extinguisher shouldn’t be under the sink. It should be on a wall, easily accessible and without obstruction.)
Sue Ellen almost 5 years ago
I’m assuming robot candles are flameless battery powered candles or Lupin would by playing with the flames.

Elvis, robots can’t be trusted any more than fire can. Even with a robot fire, you’d still be doomed.

As far as a fire goes, wood stoves are better, and safer.

Robots require energy, which is limited when the power is out.

The fire must be keeping things warm since the Woman has emerged from her blanket cocoon.

Obviously Elvis needs to start conducting yearly fire safety inspections.

It didn’t take long for Elvis to get back to his usual worry-wart self and find things to complain of. Back to being ‘Cannot Please’.

Maybe out of season: Seals and Crofts’ Summer Breeze
See the cats stretched out by the fire
Sound asleep on the soft hearth rug
See the Humans on the red sofa
Huddled together in a big group hug.
…….
Winter snow makes me feel fine,
With tea and hot chocolate down the line!
…….
See the meezer in the living room
Standing watch lest the fire go out of control
See the mice standing right behind him,
Guarding against all the doom and gloom!
…….
Winter snow makes me feel fine,
With tea and hot chocolate down the line!
…….
Cold days in winter, the fire’s alight,
Power is out, but we will be alright
We’re all at home,
With all our loved ones,
And we’re sleeping there,
Not a care in the world!
…….
See the robot candles on the mantel
Bringing smiles with their shining light,
See the cats and the mice and the humans
Elvis, know everything will be alright!
…….
Winter snow makes me feel fine,
With tea and hot chocolate down the line!

I’m with Elvis on this. Fire indoors makes me uneasy. Never liked candles, never wanted a fireplace.
Once when the power went out in the summer time, I gathered up solar powered garden lights from the yard and scattered them all over the house.
