Nice graphic, Elvis! This is usually the point where people kittens announce they need to use the litter box!

My philosophy is that if you have to wrap up that warm to go outside, you might as well stay inside.

“Cut off their attitude and they grow back another.” Still, one hopes that their attitude doesn’t get cut off too often or it might grow back stunted. :(

The people-kittens remind me of Ralphie’s little brother in ‘A Christmas Story’. His mother bundled him up, then he had to pee, got rebundled and was wobbling after his brother like a landed starfish crying ‘Wait a minute, Ralphie’

Breaking Cat News gets an honourable mention among revolutionary and iconic comics to grace the syndicate. (I was expecting Pearls Before Swine on the list too, but alas, it didn’t make it!)

Sort of like “All Star” – Smash Mouth / Original songwriter: Greg Camp

Hey now, you’re all-stars, get your clothes on, go play

Hey now, you’re sea stars, get the snow on, it’s a new day

When all around you is cold

You cute l’il stars are a sight to behold

Well the snow started coming but it finally stopped coming

All bundled up – can’t hit the ground running

Doesn’t make sense not to have some fun

Your heads are warm but your bodies feel numb

So much to do, so play without care

So what’s wrong with getting fresh air?

You’ll never know if you don’t go

Can’t even bend to hug your mow-mow

Hey now, you’re all-stars, get your clothes on, go play

Hey now, you’re sea stars, get the snow on, it’s a new day

When all around you is cold

You’re the cutest stars – may you never grow old!

How many female fans are old enough to remember the horror of leggings (not the new meaning…these were made for little girls to match a winter coat and worn under dresses)? You could not wear pants to school or church so you got stuffed into leggings that had to then come off and go back on for recess and going home. I think the teachers probably hated them too as if keeping track of a bunch of hats, mittens, boots and scarves wasn’t trouble enough.

O.T. but related to yesterday’s stuff about soothing sounds in a dental office – this morning the lab tech where I work part time tried to boil an egg in the microwave. It blew up, blew the microwave door open, and distributed egg shards all over the room. Now the office smells like someone has been boiling a public restroom. It made an impressive noise, too, and really keyed up the dental patients.

Oh, those stiff snowsuits…when my son was 2, my ex’s parents gave him a snowsuit for Christmas. The first time I dressed him in it, he tried to take one step forward and…TIM-BERRRRR!!!!! right =BAM!!!= on his face before I could catch him. At least the floor was carpeted so no real injuries but of course he screamed, & as I scooped him up & sat him in my lap I was laughing AND crying hysterically. Poor kid…I’m sure he doesn’t remember, but I can still see it like it was yesterday…

I can remember one strange incident when I begged to go outside on a cold snowy day and my mom came up with the idea to bundle me up. The top layer was, I suppose, a sweater or sweatshirt belonging to my older brother or sister. She had my arms crossed over my body in front and tied the way too long sleeves behind me to hold my arms in place, then put my coat on me and buttoned it up with its empty arms dangling. How this was supposed to keep me warmer I have no idea. What it did do was take away my balance so that I fell down every few steps. Daddy finally got tired of picking me up and that was the end of the day’s expedition. For once I was relieved to get out of the snow.

Happy Umbrella Day. Why it’s in February is a mystery, but here it is. The colloquial term, “bumbershoot,” is thought to be a portmanteau of umbrella and parachute. Those attempting to use it as the latter are almost certainly doomed. I will leave it to our resident Doomsayer, Robin, to address whether they are useful against other dooms, such as drop bears and their ilk.

Okay, so kids have smaller bodies, but they also burn more calories than adults. I’ve never understood the excessive bundling of children in cold weather. I hated it, and the lack of mobility. Part of the problem, back in the Paleolithic when I was a child, was that the best cold weather fabric we had was wool. I’d get dehydrated playing outside in the winter because I was sweating so much, even standing still, some days.

I was lucky growing up in Los Angeles. My parents were good about driving us up into the mountains to play in the snow (a two hour drive). Since we had no specific clothing for snow, Mom brought several changes of clothing so as one outfit got cold and wet, we could change. It worked quite well.
