Oh look! Sophie’s book has been autographed by Georgia Dunn. Is it Lupin Leaps In or did she get an ARC of Take it Away Tommy since her picture is on the cover?
I still think we may expect a visit from a Mysterious Masked Moggy who will refuse to divulge her identity in the tradition of El Santo and Rey Misterio, Jr. Note: Moggy, (British) 1. A cat. 2. A cat of mixed ancestry. 3. The feline equivalent of mutt.
Tommy looks amazing today; his fur colour is showing perfectly on my screen. And it looks like Sophie is practicing Georgia’s signature, which I can only hope she doesn’t forge for illicit purposes.♥
I’m pretty sure Tabitha and Sir Figaro will not take part. However, if Sophie joins the fun, and then the Mysterious Masked Moggy (whose identity none of us will be able to guess) turns up, poor Sophie will be doomed.
We are going into semi-lockdown. Lots of businesses are to close. Supermarkets, Banks, Petrol stations, Pharmacies, Convenience stores, Freight and logistics, Food delivery, and (phew!) Bottle shops stay open.
“At this stage, businesses such as hairdressers and beauticians can stay open if they comply with social-distancing guidelines — as challenging as that may be.” (ABC News)
Cutting hair from 1.5 metres away is a bit of a challenge.
Georgia gives us a three-fer in BCN – the story line, beutiful art work and the delightful ‘treasure-hunt’ finds such as Sophie has an appointment today with GD. Thank you.
Forgive me Orb for I have sinned. It has been 56 years, 203 days and 9-3/4 hours since my last confession.
It all started last night when I did swing danced with one of my cats…
Perhaps I should start at the beginning. It was after 4 on Sunday afternoon and the news on the tv was bleak, so I decided to make a spectacular Manhattan while I cooked dinner…3 parts Makers Mark bourbon, 1-part Antica Formula 1786 Italian Red Vermouth, 1-shake of Angostura Bitters and one Maraschino cherry. Stir over ice until very cold, but do not shake – very important – shaking will chip the ice and water down the Manhattan.
Anyway, I digress. I put on some Big Band music and on came Sing Sing Sing by Benny Goodman. You know the one…original recording with Gene Krupa on drums? Anyway the kitten Holly Berry was looking at me as I was kind of moving to music and I asked her if she liked to dance. Well she just looked at me with big kitten eyes and I took that for a yes.
So I picked up Holly and began swing dancing to the music around the kitchen. Of course Giblet and Belle, two of our other cats, looked upon the scene with complete shock and horror, but Holly seemed to like it. All was going well when my wife and daughter walked in. Nervous glances were exchanged by all present as I carefully put down Holly, who I might add was having a good time. Finally Giblet and Belle gave me a look of total disdain and walked out of the kitchen.
Needless to say, as a family we shall never speak of this again.
Deinde, ego te absolvo a peccatis tuis in nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti. Amen.
Good morning all. I have coffee and trust that all of you are enjoying it (or your tea) with me. The Woman has more of the trappings of her regular office (docking station for the laptop, dual-monitor display, an actual home-office space) than she had in December. I’m becoming concerned about her ability to give it up once we’re permitted to return to the office.
On a related note, our offshore customer-service team in India has been closed by government mandate. Exactly none of our patients calling to talk to someone about their bill will be disappointed by this news, but I digress.
And then there’s the MIL, whose building (senior housing) is also on virtual lockdown, so she flew to SLC to visit her sister. She tried to invite herself to fly directly from SLC to Raleigh in a few days because she can get a screaming deal on the airfare, blissfully ignorant of the risks involved for a woman who is about to turn 73, who is diabetic, who has at least two underlying health conditions, and who blithely refuses to practice social distancing, let alone then spending multiple weeks in close quarters with two disabled people. Suffice to say, we told her no. And she wasn’t happy. To keep it on topic, I wish she would emulate Sophie a little more.
Speaking as someone who’s not that great at socializing himself and was often in the corner reading (or some such) instead of interacting with whatever the others were doing, I appreciate that the others are, gently, trying to invite Sophie to join in, giving her that option if she wants it and letting her know that she’s welcome to.
I know nagging the anti-social isn’t always wise…but looking back on my own life, there are plenty of times where I wished people had tried a bit more proactively to try and get me to join in and socialize a bit more than to just shrug their shoulders and left me be. Maybe I might have learned to have been better at socializing.
Still, the option’s been given to Sophie now, but if she ultimately chooses not to enact upon it in the end, that’s her choice to make. :)
Though I wouldn’t rule out an unexpected appearance of a mysterious masked vigilante wrestler at this thing just yet, though… ;)
Yip! Yip! Yip! Yap! BARK! Today is Puppy Day. Charles Schultz had a book, back in the early ’60s, IIRC, titled Happiness Is a Warm Puppy. Not having any direct knowledge of that species, I will assume he knew what he was talking about. Perhaps, in these benighted days of all inclusiveness, it would be more appropriate to say “Happiness Is a Warm Furperson.” I think Mr. Schultz would not disagree with that.
However, it is incumbent on all humans, of whatever shape, kind, and persuasion, to say “Hello!” to any dog they meet. You can walk right past every person you ever meet, but you must say “Hello” to a dog.
So give the furperson of your choice a hug, especially if canine and puppy. Dogs thrive on human love. Just ask one.
The CDC is advising that, that even though there is no evidence that pets can catch or spread corona virus, people who have been diagnosed with covid 19 and are under quarantine are advised to avoid direct contact with their pets. How do you explain to a confused companion animal why it cannot be near you when they obviously sense that you need them?
I GET IT! She doesn’t want to wrestle/tussle, she wants her moment in the spotlight! As an artist! <3 I’m just sad it took me THIS LONG to figure it out.
Looking at this again, is Tommy wearing Elvis’s old bee costume? If he is, either that thing had a lot of space to let out or Tommy’s even more floof than I thought!
