I don’t believe that it really saves you any work. I think that it would be harder to go back and select a few examples from he archives. Congrats on the milestone.
Congratulations Mr. Johnson! I have enjoyed Arlo & Janis most (if not all - I’m not sure, to be honest) of those 35 years and look forward to many more. Old friends are the best friends! :)
Congrats JJ! And since you are still doing it after 35 years then you are one of the lucky ones who found something you love to do AND pays the bills.
Don’t pop the cork alone on Wednesday. If the Ex won’t toast with you then give us a GMT (clued in a strip so we can keep the worlds separate) and we will raise a glass of beverage of choice with you.
Janis is has been one of the few women that has gotten more attractive the older she has gotten. And Arlo, bless his heart, needs to see a surgeon about his nose.
Ah yes, to celebrate another year. To look back and think of where you’ve been and where you’ll go. To fondly remember earlier times while wanting more of the same. To rest and take a breather if only for a day and reflect.
God I feel old. That’s what I found myself saying.Hope you see you again in another 35 years.
I’ve been an amused reader since the strip was first printed (yes, printed) in the Boston Globe. Detective novel writer Robert Parker was also a fan. He mentioned the strip in at least one of his Spenser novels.
What is the dating system used by Gocomics. The first episode on Gocomics is dated 35 years 2 months and 24 days ago. I hope Arlo is better at tracking his wedding anniversary.
Thank you staying the course, Jimmy! I’ve been a fan for most of those years. Arlo and Janis has been my favorite strip for a long time. Calvin has nipped at their heals and holds a very close second. Keep up the good work, sir!
Congratulations on 35 years! I love this strip as a fairly realistic look at an older (not old!) loving couple. It is one of the few that has what I think is a realistic take on long relationships.
I’d forgotten they were Jimmy and Rheta Grimsley Johnson. I have her December 6 2016 column saved as a favorite. Lots of old and newer favorite cartoons in the images under his name to enjoy.
Happy Almost Anniversary … Being of the Beetles Generation…( We prefer it over ‘Boomer’ )… We see soooo many similar situations in your work that remind us how lucky we all are….Here’s Hopin’ for 35 more !…
My wife asked me once what was my favorite comic. With no hesitation, I told her Arlo & Janis. When she asked why, I told her it was a lot like us at times. Went into details, which I think she just acknowledged that (Yes Dear) acknowledgement. About a week ago, I went back and read from Gene’s fight, Arlo meeting Janis, and right to the first comic. Happy 35 years, and War Eagle, and thanks for Arlo & Janis. Great work.
Happy Birthday Jimmy and A&J! Can’t wait to see the oldies! I’ve read this strip for a long time but probably not that far back. You keep us all happy with your sense of humor and grasp on the reality of a lot of our lives :-)
I LOVE flipping back to day #1, to see how a fellow artists’ skills have grown and matured! Jimmy, you have come SO FAR…you are an inspiration to me!!!
