When I was young, my mother always pointed out if I wanted a good job, I should keep my shoes polished & shiny. My argument with that was, if a person had shiny shoes, it probably meant they were lazy, (except for wasting time polishing) & didn’t do enough hard work to get them dirty. Dirty shoes would be a sign of a hard working person & the reason they got dirty & unpolished. A hiring boss might just notice that.

My, my, my…how true in my life! I have lost count of how many times my wife has said this or “Don’t wear that! I don’t care if you wear that at home but don’t wear it when you go out.” O brother!

If you are married has your wife looked at what you are wearing and then say, “O don’t wear that. That’s not you!” ?

We reflect who we are by the clothes we wear and our attitude about ourselves.

I see nothing wrong with Earl’s clothes – jeans and a T-shirt are fine for grocery shopping. At least it isn’t a pair of pajamas and house slippers which people like to ear to Walmart.

Are we to think he bought his own shirt? Doesn’t seem the type.

Lose the mustache and Earl could be me. I love my Yankees ball cap, and have about 100 Woot! shirts, and I think that looks just fine.

I am with you Earl, I don’t care what people in a store think of me. However, as for work I go with Charliefarmhere and his mom, I dress for work. I never ever wore slacks.Always a dress appropriate for work or a suit or a skirt and blouse appropriate for work.

Opal, should adapt to a hipper sight of Earl !

I’m with Earl. I like to be comfortable when I go to the store. Now that I am wearing a mask I don’t have to shave either.

I’ve seen worse looking. And most of the worse-dressed are women – especially at Walmart.

If Earl was single and looking for a partner I think he’d be looking a bit more dapper. Probably shine his shoes too for a good first impression.

That would be me if Earl was wearing cargo shorts. Working form home, and meetings on Zoom, I haven’t worn long pants for about 6 months. Will probably be another 6 months before I will need to do so.

Had a job interview decades ago. The owner was wearing jeans and a biker vest. He looked at my suit and said, “Nice suit.” I just said, “If you were wearing a suit and I came wearing jeans and a T-shirt, would you believe me if I said I owned a suit? I do own T-shirts and jeans and I bet you believe me.”

I thought Opal was going to say that people would think his wife shouldn’t let him out of the house looking like that.

She sure is a control freak.

Honestly? Opal could use a makeover. She looks like a typical 70 yr old back in the 1950s. Today, the 70 yr old women I know would never dress like frumps.

A young man I know wanted to get a job selling real estate. He had an interview with a broker who told him he had the job as soon as he walked in the door because he was wearing a suit and tie and all the other applicants wore jeans and T-shirts.

That is our son with his negative words.

What is wrong with “old guys rule” shirts. I have about 6 or 8 of them and wear them everywhere. It’s a lot better that what you see printed on other shirts.

You wouldn’t care much what people think about you if you realized how seldom they actually do.

At 20, I worried what people thought about me.At 40, I didn’t care what people thought about me.At 60, I realize nobody was thinking about me anyhow.

I’m wearing one of my Baby Yoda t-shirts today.

When I first went out on my own building homes,didn’t shave, same dirty coveralls. Went to meet my old banker. He said “you don’t put up much of a front do you?”. 20 years later I was the banker. I sought out customers who didn’t put up much of a front. Had nearly a dozen multimillionaires in oil field work, highway construction, etc. that looked like homeless guys when they came to see me. Had one waiting for me in the lobby asked where the restroom was, the lady floor manager told him it was broken, hoping he would leave. He had a million bucks in his account.

Earl looks pretty good in that getup, which here in south Florida will get you into all but the snootiest restaurants with nary a sideways glance.

Opal understood Earl’s intentions without even knowing it.

As Earl has figured out, clothes DON’T make the man. Hard work and integrity will take you further than looking good.

At Earl’s age, and now at my age, I believe we’re past the point of what people think of us. I usually dress like Earl has done, but nowadays in these 100+ degree heat days here in NorCal, it’s tank tops ’n shorts, no ball cap !

This comic really makes me want to go buy an utility Kilt, and then go rock it Commando Style.

It’s easier for men than women to get away with that.

What you think of yourself matters too. Dress to please yourself.
