I was all for it until it went to no mans land behind the fridge. Even one second there would be too long.

Rolled between counter and fridge? Nope, 5 sec rule is voided!

Good reminder to clean the fridge cooling fins.

The five second rule is superceded by the five foot rule.

What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. Of course, that presupposes it doesn’t kill you.

I’ve never seen a chocolate chip cookie do that. A double stuff Oreo – yes, they’re more stable.

The 5 second rule, an urban myth, has been completely debunked. You don’t even have to drop the food on the floor to pick up bacteria. As soon as you touch the food, the bacteria on your fingers gets on the food.

Normally, I would say that’s okay, but this cookie went UNDER the refrigerator! No way! Unless Arlo cleaned under there earlier today, anything under there would be gross, plus covered in cat hair.

No such rule. And unless you clean under there it will be dirtier than a roll on te floor.

If I get to it before the dogs, it’s mine.

Across the floor, OK, but from under the fridge when you own a cat, uh-uh. That thing would have come out from under there the size of a football with fur.

Some things void the 5 sec rule like in the toilet, in the cat food, in the litter box and definitely any place that collects cat hair.

Just remove the dust bunnnies.

Not if it rolled under the fridge.

That’s me all the time. The older I get, the more I drop things, bump into things, and lose my balance. I guess getting older is better than the alternative.

If it was the last cookie, I might amend the five-second rule… a bit… ⏳ ☺

I can remember when I finally made enough money to balance out the guilt of wasting food – to where I would throw that cookie away and get another one. A sweet, sweet moment in my life. Chocolate Macadamia nut as I remember sweet.

The clock doesn’t start until movement stops! I mean “A rolling stone gathers no moss” right?

“It rolled off the table, and onto the floor. And then my poor [cookie] rolled [behind the refrigerator.]”

Even then, the 5 second only applies if you don’t have a dog.

I don’t think the five second rule applies to a cookie when it goes under the refrigerator or the side of it. In that case you have to dust it off with your fingers.

Fermented cockroach poo and old cat hair never killed anyone, did it?

When I lived in CA it was the 5 second rule, here in Florida we go with the 2 minute rule as long as it doesn’t start moving.

If he is eating it, who cares how long it was on the floor? As long as he didn’t leave it under the fridge, I wouldn’t mind. There would be more fresh ones left for me.

In response to many of the comments today, just blow on it, both sides, then it’s good to eat.

When was the 5 second rule first put forth? I did not hear of it until well into my 20s or 30s (1970s/80s). Rule in my family was if it touched the floor it went out – too bad.
