Between the body shaming (mostly in the comments) and the apparent exhibitionism in the strip, maybe it’s time for a time out…

Jack is more than a plot device? Or is he just a plot device for the development of a sexually desirable hunk, who is at the same time a decent, non-threatening type guy, used to probe (yeah I said probe) the development of necessarily virginal unmarried college girls? Is it him and them (Luann & Bernice), them in spite of him, or him despite of them?

That posture is acceptable in a yoga class in close proximity, but not in public. How do you explain?

I would say that Luann just isn’t that into Jack.

Jack is Narcissus. No problem for Jack in the art class – even though some of the students knew him. I don’t think this is the kinda guy Luann is looking for.

Like yesterday, Luann is drawn as very stiffly and appears embarrassed. The Jack character appears more uninhibited that usual; even exhibitionistic this week. Somewhat surprising.

Is Jack really that dense about Berny and Luann?

OK! There is the crude gag of Luann’s side glance at the inadvertent(?) crotch shot. But I think these two strips are a setup for something later.

Hmmm…I might be right that Luann is not a fan of exercise. Public or private. I Hope Jack changes her mind. Hey, maybe Jack was CHUBBY and homely before he became fit and better looking? Let’s see if he has an old school picture in his wallet?? The Before and After.

While we’re on the subject of exercise, it appears that most of the commentators here likely have very strong hands from so vigorously clutching their pearls…

Is Luann wearing spandex?

Jack is a comfortable narcissistic exhibitionist. Luann is not comfortable being in the presence of a free spirit like Jack. Maybe Luann will ask for another date?

Jack is not doing anything illegal. As for Luann’s imagination, that may be illegal in 59 countries.

In any case there is not and seemingly never will be any “Luann and Jack” romantic story….

Jack has a level of comfort with his body that Luann and I both find uncomfortable.

I wonder that GnK are getting at with this and Jack’s last appearance. During each conversation Jack doesn’t stop exercising which sort of implies that he’s not wholly listening to the conversation. And his poses seem exhibitionist and leads to innuendo from both Bernice and Luann. Are GnK trying to make Jack into some kind of sex god? Or someone kind of creepy? Is there some point to Bernice and Luann constantly running into Jack? So far this week have been a repeat of when Bernice met Jack and that was a boring, pointless week. This week seems to be shaping up to more of the same, When is Luann going to get a decent arc?

I know why she meets people in the park. It’s a neutral non-intimate and non-threatening atmosphere. Yes i know toni and brad made out in the park but they aren’t flaming wishy-washy. Luann doesn’t want lovers, she just wants friends she can hang out with when she’s bored and can talk to when she needs to talk.

Isn’t it about time we got back to Tiffany, the real star of this strip? I mean, if this is all we are going to do with Luann (no further development, no moving her forward) we should move on other characters not named Bernice and leave Luann to be Godot from the old Samuel Beckett play.

Luann isn’t exactly a “dance like no one else is looking” kind of person. And neither is Bernice unless they have her undergo a dramatic personality change. It seems neither is suited for Jack.

Hmm. My take on this part of the story is that we are now juxtaposing Luann’s apparent “lack” of romantic interest in Jack as a dating partner with Bernice’s unsuccessfully “veiled” romantic interest in Jack as a dating partner.

To me, it appears that Luann is about to subconsciously reassess her prior “lack” of interest, and it will morph into real interest in Jack. In terms of Bernice, I suspect her ill-fitting, see-through “veil” will also fall away and that Greg’s new “hilarity ensues” interaction between these friends is their conflict in terms of both liking the same young man. And, I suspect, to allow for long-term “hilarity ensues” antics, Greg will keep Jack clueless and unaware of either female’s interest.

Luann watches his frontside and Bernice watches his backside. Jack has something for everyone.

Now wait a minute…is Bernice sitting on a bench nearby? She might end up being included. Jack is clearly inviting (on a first come first serve basis) someone to be his exercise partner. Which of these two is going to punt first?

Not only is it not illegal, Luann, it’s rather a rebellious act for a female. Female public fitness (and almost all competitive displays outside of competing for men/affection) has for most of history been discouraged. Shoot, I remember teachers telling me girls don’t sweat, and my mom working out to Jane Fonda tapes in our not public living room (I’m 48). Not even getting into Title 9. Hard to believe what a fuss was made about the idea of women taking care of there own bodies, but get with the times Luann.

Seeing Luann with a guy in the same frame is like watching Lucy and Charlie Brown with the football.

Oh, & there is a solid argument for making group workouts in public areas illegal – specifically, if it is a organized meeting with compensation involved and it inhibits other peoples use or enjoyment of the space, yes, it should be regulated or permitted, just like a wedding in a park. This happens often with yoga on the beach or fun runs that become overly popular and affect parking and residential areas.

Running and biking are forms of public fitness that no one has a problem with. I don’t think I would care if I spotted someone stretching, doing push-ups or sit-ups in the park. What makes it an issue is one’s attire. You don’t have to wear skin tight clothes to work-out though a lot of people do that for their normal dress.

And yet she looked. Is this the year they have Luann lose her innocence?

Luann is lusting for Jack.

I like Luann’s retort in today’s strip. Jack is quite without inhibition, and Luann and Bern are bogged down with it. Luann with Jack seems a better pair than Bern with Jack. Their rapport is far more natural. Bern and Delta should swap places in the Luannverse.

Doing it nude could be a problem.

I think that it was 1212 who mentioned it. It has been a very, very long time since Luann has had any romantic interests. When she met the guy through that on-line dating service that matched up Gunther with Bets, the guy met her at the Fuse and then he split after 5 minutes.
