I’ve been bitten by cats, dogs, and horses. Not a one has taken a second bite. I either taste bad, or they don’t like being punched. “To the moon, Elvis!”
I love the drawings by Elvis. The one in the final 2 panels reminds me of a leviathan from the TV series Supernatural. BTW I think most of the cats I have ever owned have behaved like Elvis from time to time, some just do it more frequently, its their way to show affection….
Puck’s eyebrows as he reads Elvis’s notes, ending in angry brows: “I don’t think Elvis should be allowed to make anymore charts!” LOL! Elvis just doesn’t have the same artistic prowess as our Pucky.
Today’s comic – and especially Elvis’ diagrams – made me think of the episode of Star Trek TNG in which Data built a daughter, Lal. When observing human interactions in 10-forward, Lal saw a couple kiss and remarked “He is biting that female!”
Years ago, when I returned from a week away, Tigger sat on the bed watching me unpack until I leaned down. Then she leapt up, claws out to grab my face. Luckily, I wear glasses. Her claws hooked the glasses frame thereby saving me from permanent puncture marks! It was all obviously totally affection.
I reached an a accommodation with Silver (The House Varmint) many years ago – he gets to play bite as long as he doesn’t break the skin… Same with claws while play wrestling.
He worked out the maximum pressures pretty quickly – keeping claws trimmed helps, naturally.
(Of course, in incidents involving puffed-out tails, such guidelines are disregarded… One cannot reason with a puffed-out cat – only time & patience will do.)
My nephew wants a cat but is afraid of getting hurt by one so he would probably scream if a cat kissed him like that even if the cat was just showing love.
Samson, my Siamese, showed affection this way. He’s snuggle in and bite my chin very gently. He’d hold my jaw gently in his teeth, never breaking the skin. My current boy, Romeo, only occasionally kisses my hand when we snuggle.
Sparrowbane does finger nips when getting skritched.
The Hungriest Tigress does nose nips. She was feral for two or three years, so even though she has been with us a couple of years now, she is still getting the hang of this getting along with two-legged staff thing.
Zoomer (R.I.P.) never nipped, bit or scratched me, even when I had to inject him with the insulin. He preferred an occasional lick, and lots of paw contact. :-)
Yeti, on the other hand, IS a nipper. He will nip or scratch when he’s had enough attention. He will even use my jeans as a scratching post (when I am wearing them!), but I know he is doing it out of love. :-)
Speaking of Yeti, he got an excellent report from the oncologist vet last week. The doctor is very pleased with how his lip has healed, and Yeti gained a little more weight. They want to see him in 3 months, which will be about a year removed from the surgery. Still keeping my fingers crossed that the cancer won’t return.
I agree with Puck. I don’t buy kitties biting as kissing. “Oh it’s just a love nip, how sweet.” No, touching their nose ever so gently to you is a kiss, getting bit and hoping they haven’t broken the skin just hurts.
I’m helping foster a cat name Mai mai, and the lady I help at the colony are trying to get to to stop play biting while playing. Because biting cats aren’t adoptable. Mai Mai is currently under the bed and is just a little too comfortable under there. And it’s really hard to interact with her under there. I really don’t like putting her back into the crate (big dog crate), but unless she starts coming out when I’m here, we won’t have a choice. She can’t interact with me or Sebastian (who is missing Vlad, as I am). Even scardy Sebastian started to explore after a day after being brought home.
Cupcake used to bite our fingers when either my sister and I were eating. Especially any type of chips that she tried to get at. One time I was eating a plate full of nachos and got up to get a drink. Turned around and Cupcake was biting and licking all of the nachos. She bite my sister’s finger a couple of weeks ago cause my sister had a Dorito in her hand that Cupcake wanted. And no we never give her any food like that she would find a way to get into the bag or away from people.
Fortunately Albert A. Cat does not bite. (The first and only time he did, his Man bit him back.) He does give kisses though! We call them “snooches” — smooches with a snoot!

Diesel gives “kisses” – he pokes his nose deliberately into my face. Maybe he can give Elvis some pointers while Puck makes some updated charts.

Amazing that Elvis is supposedly showing affection to The Man, when he’s closer to The Woman . . . maybe “supposedly” is the operant word here?
