I’ve said this before but Jack’s indifference towards both Luann and Bernice as well as his habit of wearing tight clothes to show off his muscles implies that he’s gay.

Equally I would have thought that Bernice and Nils would have hit it off since they both love sarcastic, nihilistic observations. Which is probably why I like Nils’ character far more than I did Jack.

Here comes the “Piro Type Closure” scene in which Bernice finally gets Jack out of her “system” once and for all.

Wanna bet that Jack has failed to mention to Bernice that he’s “starring” in this “art show” as the nude model again? Perhaps even with Tara as his “Co Star.” Bernice will go petrified with shock.

And If G&K are showing “art shows,” so much for the “COVID” restrictions.

Perhaps We can have some more on campus/classroom arcs, where We can finally meet some NEW people.

It seems that while Luann was trying to help his best friend Bernice get together with Jack, Jack is trying to help his best friend Nill with Bernice… and now she said "YES!…. Once again, Bernice will end up disappointed. Or maybe she and Nill this time…7…

Nil and Bernice already dated and Nil realized they really didn’t have anything in common so they ended it.

Now Bernice needs to back up and explain that she doesn’t think going out with Nil is a good idea because it didn’t work out the first time and she thought he was asking her out himself. At this point she has nothing to lose.

Is Jack interested in ANYBODY? Male OR Female. He seems very asexual. And pretty clueless.

A friend of mine was once asked out on a date and said yes. The guy showed up with his girlfriend and another guy as her date. Instead of blowing up, she went along with it and went to the planned venue. After a short amount of time, she excused herself saying she was going to the powder room. That’s when she called a cab and went home.

Just what we expected…Jack is not interested in dating Bernice. She might enjoy the art show with Nils, if she gave unwrap her head from Jack. Guessing Nil is still interested in Bernice. It’s been a few years since the bowling and the scarf incidents. Jack’s quite serious about helping Monstro… and maybe Bernice in a friendly sort of way.

Uh oh. Looks like Bernice has a date with nils

Clearly Bernice is aroused, Jack not apparently at all. Inviting here to an art show, something he might have with Luann, is very promising, but then he mentions his buddy, Nil, will be along. this brings up an awkward situation because Bern has—apparently—been on a date situation with Nil. I vaguely recall it, but any “date” with either of these dudes turn out to be platonic in nature. Will this another platonic outing? How is the awkward situation going to play out if at all? Hilarity will ensue, that is for sure.

I don’t think Bernice even heard the part about Nil coming along.. As the old saying goes… Two’s company, three’s a crowd.

My prediction: Bernice will go to the art show and see a sketch or painting of Jack from his modelling day!

Now, this actually made me laugh out loud. Methinks Jack is not romantically interested in Bernice. Is he romantically interested in anyone? I’ve not seen any indications in either gender direction. But he’s a good-hearted soul, and I like him a lot. * However, putting Bernice and Nil together, my internal jury is still out on that. Doesn’t exactly look like a marriage made in heaven, but opposites DO attract, so who knows?

The part I find revealing is the “Oh, before I forget…” Doubt you’d forget if you intended to ask someone out. Seems more like what you’d say if someone had asked you to do that on their behalf, i.e., “Oh, you’re going to see Bernice? Do me a favor and ask if she wants to go to the art show…” (Nope, not the smoothest/smartest way to go about it, but these are really still just kids.)

Lots of comments on Jack being homosexual. I seem to remember Jack being interested in Luann. He was fairly ‘flirty"; however, she wasn’t as interested so he didn’t press it. Why anyone would be interested in Bern is beyond me..

Jack is not gay, and neither is Gunther. & is not bad grammar. Me and Nil is bad grammar. Wanna should be want to, but many people don’t pronounce the “T”. Many people don’t pronounce the “t” in words like Santa or Sacramento. They say “Sanna” and “Sacramenno”. I threw in a comment about Jack and Gunther, but the rest of this post explains my comments the last two days. I hope that clears it up.

Jack could be dating someone and he just never talks about her. Jack considers Luann and Bernice as friends, nothing romantic.

I am totally disappointed in how GnK have portrayed Jack here. You don’t buy a living pet for a girl and then blow her off. That’s beyond insensitive. And Bernice’s flirty reaction to that gesture is totally appropriate. To suggest she date one of his friends is an insult. She would be justified in returning the gift.

As for Nil, he showed more rapport with Tara than anyone else in the strip.

Everything else aside, I am glad to see Jack’s continued interest in veterinary science (his chosen career path). Monstro is his first patient and he his taking it seriously to the point where he will consult with one of his professors. Bern has a chance to redeem herself by getting a temporary bowl for Monstro and supplies set up to empty and clean the tank; yes put an old shirt on over that green top and get to work. She proclaimed her love for Monstro; now she needs to show it. She can snap out of this flirty mode once she realizes it is going nowhere. But will she?

What did I say?? Bernice would try some sorta seductive moves and Jack’s confused. Great big nothing.

Trapped for an entire evening with Nil. As I recall they did not exactly click last time at the bowling alley.

I think Jack is straight. I also think Greg likes this character a lot and enjoys having the freedom to have him interact with lots of females. By having Jack play the field there are far more options to feature him. If he ties him with anyone in particular—Luann, Berniece etc. he limits the character’s potential. Pretty smart strategy for a secondary character!

I’m starting to think he doesn’t want Bernice.

You have an interesting view on things. I tend to think that Jack is a great guy and not gay. Not that it matters. You’re just old. If you’re fit, you wear clothes that fit. That doesn’t make you gay.

Pathetic. Bernie is love-struck, and she’s striking out with her over-eager responsiveness….

What’s sad about this is that Bernice might actually like Nil. But even if she makes it to the art show, she’ll spend so much time bitterly bound up in her head and her disappointed fantasies, she’ll never even try to make a connection with Nil. So she’ll never know if she likes him or not.
