Um … Wouldn’t God know better?

I presume Wiley gave this a lot of thought

And long lists lead to confusion and forgetfulness. Problem is 10 exceeds that point for so many people.

Check the Bible, there are a gazillion other laws beside these 10

The phrase “people are smart enough” is actually an incantation that calls up a horde of “stupidity” imps.

I like George Carlin’s version better.

Seeing how many of said dimwits responded in Dallas this past weekend was very revealing.

Those are no commandments. That is a tombstone.

Maybe if everyone had to face God as Moses did, then they WOULD turn over a new leaf.As far as we know, Moses may have been the ultimate con man of all time. The period he spent on the mountain (40 days and nights) was just enough time for him to chisel out the tablets and engrave them himself. Who knows? ;-)

No, the first mistake was presuming people would listen to God.

You listen to those you love.

There ain’t enough tablets to get people to act properly. The Golden Rule should be enough.

Thou shall not preach HATE! That one should have been on there as it gets broken constantly by the so called religious. Over the centuries they loved nothing more than to kill people.

The 10 Commandments are just the earliest among a number of rule sets that have been re-written, ignored, or re-interpreted for the convenience of those who prefer to be guided by their own narrow interests as to what is right for them. That won’t change ever.

Stories in the Bible of someone arguing God down on one point or another. Which is behind this joke: God came down the mountain and told the people, “Good news, I got him down to ten! Bad news, the one against adultery is still there.”

Gods are simply creations of man, to give man the authority to dictate what others should do, often for good and ill. If I tell you how you should live I expect you would utterly ignore me, but if I speak from the pulpit I am god’s messenger. What we need is a better way to dispense morality than deities.

Eleventh Commandment: Thou shalt not be a Republican.

Just herd all the unwashed masses into boxcars and gas chambers and be done with it! The elite are all that matters!

The New Testament update “Love thy neighbor as thyself” consolidated all the laws into one, and that was apparently too much to comprehend.

Moses: “all these commandments give me a headache.”’ God: “take two tablets, go to bed and pray to me in the morning.”

It may be that the commandments, “Thou shalt not steal” and “Thou shalt not covet” placed too large an emphasis on property and its value, and less of an emphasis on people and their feelings. Actually, the commandment, “Thou shalt not steal” should be “Thou shalt not kidnap” which places a higher value on personhood. The commandment, “Thou shalt not covet” also covers stealing.

Smart people know not to trust the “morality” of a god who makes a commandment about “thou shall not” hurt his feelings but not one about “thou shall not” hurt kids or “thou shall not” practice slavery.

And Moses came down from the mountain, he told his followers of the Burning Bush and how he, at his age, carried the marble slabs down the mountain. One of his flock commented to another “Didn’t I tell you to hide the wine”.

That’s the trouble. If you need a book to tell you what’s not good …

Curious that different Christian groups actually use different Bibles and sometimes the ‘10 Commandments’ are not the same.

Anyone that believes this myth is delusional.

Now, don’t take this literally, but …

“Take two tablets and be moral in the morning” was never a viable approach.

The ten commandments were plain and simple to understand until the lawyers and theologians came along!

There’s also the comment of “Go forth and multiply.” Good advice for when there were only two people on the planet, but definitely needs to be updated for today’s world.

2 tablets were all he could carry, the other 8 are still up there.

Only one commandment is applicable nowdays.

“It’s OKAY If A Republican* Does It!”.

Last 5 commandments are pretty good as suggestions go; first 5 are just vainglorious egoism — not on the part of the mythical Yahweh but rather of the privileged priest class that claimed to speak for him.

Why is Moses white?

We don’t need, “Thou shall not be stupid.” Everyone knows that!

Well, that went sideways pretty quickly.

Amazing how many “christians” and Evil-angelicals fully support a person who only uses a church and a scripture only as a damned photo op. A person who lusts after his own daughter. A person who hates so much. A person who has so many perverse natures and desires. A person who has been caught out in thousands of lies and mistruths. A person who spurns and vilifies the poor, the sick, and those wounded or killed in the service of the once great nation. For shame.

The only rule needed and that covers it all is don’t hurt each other. Again, may the God of your choice bless you.

Reading all the above, reminds me of the phrase “much ado about nothing.” When I was a wee lad my folks and I went to lunch with our local parish priest. I caught him look at a nice turn of ankle and called him on it. He replied, “Son, just because I’m on a diet, doesn’t mean I can’t look at the menu.” He was one of the wisest men I ever knew.

I reckon 10 should do it …

Whenever the question is “Can people really be that stupid?”, the answer is always yes.

Are you kidding? Most people can’t even follow those ten simple instructions!
