Burt, where is the translation chyron? Google is telling me it’s Portuguese for “like spring.” That can’t be right! OK, second try gives me Spanish for “how cool.” That makes more sense.
Sir Figaro looks like he wants to pounce out of that window and take a flying leap into the herd of boxes, separating the weak and injured from the rest in true Mighty Hunter fashion.
Oooooo! Look at all the tantalizing boxes, in all sizes! :D Every one of them should be filled with a cat or more than one cat. Elvis has the right of it. Boxes are wasted on people.
At our house the boxes arrive with say dishes inside and the humans unpack them and give the box to the cat. And sometimes the humans fill those dishes with desirable wet food. Ever think of that, Lupin!??
There’s something about cats and boxes. Why, the ancient astrocat theorists suggests that cats is aliens who came in box shaped UFOs. Unfortunately the only worse thing that happened is that they inspired humans to construct ugly cubist buildings.
Well, I wandered into the cesspool known as twitter and read Dr Scuttles’ feed. It’s adorable and really, if I were to rejoin twitter, I’d have to follow it and kudos to Georgia for letting him have a little fun with BCN and use her portrait of him.
Hamilton is literally sitting in an Amazon Box as I write this. He is bobbing up and down through the open lid.
I am going to write a short story featuring Hamilton A. Cat. Most of you know some of his exploits already. I will take one of these and expand it for a short story, including an illustration of Hamilton on my Giblet & Belle Website. The challenge is, which Hamilton story do you all want to read?
Hamilton Moves In?
Hamilton and the Great Chili Cookoff?
Hamilton’s first Thanksgiving?
Vote and let me know. Majority Rules. Be sure to get permission from your Feline Overlord(s) before voting.
I know cats that would sleep in a box of shoes. However I know they prefer to sleep in an empty “shoebox”. I found my cat Raz-a-ma-taz sleeping in a empty shoebox on my desk yesterday. It was a size 13 shoebox and she’s a size 13.5 lb cat, so just a bit too small, which is perfect .
Looking again at panel 1, I’m thinking these are the filled boxes moved to the yard to await the moving vehicle and be out of the way of Moving Out Man’s filling up any remaining empty boxes. Perhaps our Boys and Girls will be lucky enough to score an empty because not needed box or two later.
Angel, my cat boss, has no interest in boxes. I shop online for a lot of stuff since the pandemic two years ago. Angel will sniff the boxes, but never try to climb into one of them. I had a Siamese cat, that passed 11 years ago, that loved boxes. I miss him, he was my favorite cat, until Angel came into my life 5 years ago. Flint (the Siamese cat), you’re not forgotten, R.I.P. my beautiful boy.
For some peculiar reason, Malvina Reynolds’ name popped into my head. I don’t know how many songs she wrote, but several are noteworthy and among my favorites: “What Have They Done to the Rain”, “Morningtown Ride”, “Turn Around”, and of course the one this strip brought to mind.
I recently lined a cardboard box with a small blanket for the 8mo tom & the 6mo princess. He got in there first, so she sat outside the box & sulked. So I found a basket & lined it with another blanket. Later she sat in the basket.
And then he joined her.
And then he kicked her out.
So I showed her that the box was empty of cat; she could be in it. I showed her twice.
But no – she sits outside the box and the basket, and sulks.
TABITHA AND SIR FIGARO SIGHTING!!!! Georgia doesn’t use them enough anymore. Didn’t Sir Figaro die in real life? I thought someone said he had and I was afraid that’s why there have been so few sightings of them even though he’s supposed to still be around in the strip.
I don’t get the box thing. My seven cats ignore them or sit in them maybe once. They prefer the couch or the bed or places people tend to sit on rather than any box. Even cat condos with caves in them are ignored – they climb to the top, but ignore the hidey-holes. They even ignore the heated cat bed I bought them – I figured the older ones would like it. But nope.
There’s a video I saw years ago on Facebook, when I was still on Facebook regularly, of a cat giving the backyard the most mournful look you ever did see from a cat. Something is out there that Kitty wants, and not in the “hunting” way. Cue a few plaintive mews. Then the camera pans over to show a pile of cardboard boxes, most of them broken down, just piled in the yard waiting to be taken somewhere instead of being used as all sorts of fun cat toys.

Sigh. As I’m sure you know, Elvis, many things are wasted on people.

Most things are wasted on people. That’s why it is the duty of every cat to take possession of as much as possible.

I assume these boxes are meant to be filled by the downstairs neighbor. Any cats that leap in are likely to find themselves in another state!

Meanwhile, Back on the Nile
Queen Catshepsut the Golden: I am happy to announce there are new boxes in the palace nap room.
Elvis-Anum: Impossibly tiny, I do hope.
The Queen: Would we have any other kind?
Puckmosis: We should test them out at once. Where’s Lupinium?
Enter Lupinium
Lupinium: I’ll be glad to test the boxes as soon as I finish my afternoon run.
Beatrixia: I’m sure we’ll all be glad to test the boxes.
The Queen: I’m glad everyone is so willing to help.
Alice-Ata: And we will go about our business while everyone naps.

Little boxes on the hillside
Little boxes made of ticky tacky
Little boxes on the hillside
Little boxes all the same
There’s a pink one and a green one
And a blue one and a yellow one
And they’re all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same
