I know I’m not the only husband who loves to indulge his wife from time to time. I’m probably not the only one who could not accept it himself. Just something about the general man/woman relationship.
In the United States, food waste is estimated at between 30-40 percent of the food supply. This estimate, based on estimates from USDA’s Economic Research Service of 31 percent food loss at the retail and consumer levels, corresponded to approximately 133 billion pounds and $161 billion worth of food in 2010.
My wife cooks on weekends and she made an “authentic” shepherd’s pie last night. She was wondering where the shepherds got their Worcestershire sauce. I also doubt they had access to ground beef. Regardless, it is very good and we should get two more meals out of it.
Jimmy has the right of it. Over the years my wife and I have come to appreciate running water, hot water, a working shower, a working toilet, enough heat in winter and food in the cupboard/fridge.
The years have been interesting and we learnt long ago that it’s the small things that are important.
As someone who once lived at “white ’66 Ford Galaxie”, and bought a sandwich every 3rd day or so, I fully embrace Arlo’s philosophy (much, I must confess, to the detriment of my waistline).
My local stores have been out of canned biscuits for the last 3 weeks. Also out of frozen french fries and cream cheese. And bacon is 8 or 9 dollars a package.
We are generally OBLIVIOUS to the WONDERFUL lives most of us live here in the USA, compared to SO MANY people in other places, and EVERYONE for THOUSANDS of years of history.

I have been known to opine that food is one of the joys of life.
Someone to sit and share it with, I believe, ranks ever so much higher.

We are in the same predicament as Arlo. My wife went out and bought an extra week of food for a rare three-hour snowstorm.

If you ate today don’t only thank a farmer thank a trucker because a farmer raised it and a trucker brought it to you

I didn’t know that huevos rancheros is also a staple in the US breakfast cuisine. South of the Rio Grande we can’t leave without them.
