Oh my, a cozy cocoa front? Can it get any better than that? Light a fire, break out the fuzzy blankets and settle in!

We had an ice storm like that, last week. A popcorn front moved in soon after. Family tradition!

How weird that one year ago today exactly, my city got hit with a random and fairly heavy snowstorm.

Thanks to everyone who responded to my comment about my new kitty, Bailey. I have to update it though. I changed her name to Lucy. “Lucy” for Lucille Ball, who was funny. And Lucy Lawless, who was a warrior princess. After seven days with her, I think my Lucy is both of those things!

On Sunday when I woke up, the sun was shining in from the east. But to the west was a dense fog, I could only see my next door neighbor’s house. As I petted Lucy, the fog gradually lifted, to where I could see the rest of the immediate neighborhood, and the tops of downtown buildings. After I brushed my teeth I could see more, until eventually I could see the Olympic mountains. It was magical, but maybe you had to be there.

It’s snowed every day here for the past two weeks either a little bit or a lot and it’s been beautiful but breathtakingly cold most of those days, hovering around 5 degrees in the morning. Yesterday, it was zero again when I got up. Love the snow, hate when it’s that cold out. We’re supposed to have another 6-8 inches Thursday.

    Carl Sigman: Marshmallow World

It’s a cozy cocoa world in winter,

With the snow blanketing all of the ground

    Looking like whipped cream

    It’s a kitty’s dream,

    With fuzzy blankets all around!

    …….

There are snacks and shows made for watching,

    Maybe a favorite British mystery,

Listen to a tune, be the biggest spoon,

Or a quick hour long nap it can be!

    …….

There’s a frosted window to watch all the snow,

    See how it goes,

    It makes quite a show!

There’s so much news, we can make it work,

    Maybe with a quick snerk!

    …….

It’s a yum, yummy world made for kitties

Have a snack, watch the snowflakes twirl,

    There’s no need to fear,

    Spring will soon be here,

But now we’ll watch the marshmallow world!

Somebody probably already posted this, but if they did, I missed it. Here’s a link to a slide show of Pucky photos in honor of his “gotcha” day, which was Sunday.

They are reacting much more calmly than last time this happened. Perhaps the Man is already out shoveling the void. We know he can’t be working from home because his faithful assistant Lupin is not with him. Regardless, cocoa for all!

No snow here today, sunny and beautiful blue skies, but cold. So I admitted Tucker to the bedroom and crawled back into bed for an extra hour or so just to be warm and cozy and listen to the wonderful, calming sound of a snuggled-up, purring kitty.

I love snow. I love winter. I love cold weather. I don’t even wear a winter coat anymore. It was in the 20’s yesterday and I wore a t-shirt, a lightweight cardigan, and an unlined jacket (and pants, of course!) and went for a walk. Walking past people in puffy coats and such.

I do hate ice. I am too clumsy to walk on ice. I have no sense of balance.

Miss Elsa has seen the vet. X-rays were inconclusive, because if she ate anything fabric related (yarn, string, etc) it is almost impossible to discern from gas bubbles, etc. Bloodwork was good, only showed slight dehydration. Temp good. She was an angel for X-ray, became her usual diva self for bloodwork. She had to be shorn near her neck for the blood draw! The indignity. They gave her some anti-nausea meds and some subcutaneous fluids (she currently looks like a bodybuilder who missed leg day) and sent us home with more anti nausea meds. Wow how will I get that in her highness? She’s an incredibly amazing kitty who loves people and being pet, loves any song you make up that has her name in it, but any hint of medicine giving, or any grooming, is not tolerated. It took 2 of us just to give her small amounts of electrolytes that I made.

So now we are playing a wait and see and crossing fingers and toes and praying she will poop.

Anti nausea meds they injected her with worked miracles. She immediately left her carrier and made a beeline for the dry food. Ate a spoonful of wet food and has been back for more dry intermittently. Vet hopes that getting food back into the tummy and giving the fluids will help get the digestive system back on track as there is a blob of “something-maybe poo, maybe whatever she ate or a combo of the two” just sitting in the large intestine and is literally just a couple inches from being on the way out.

Never have I been so hopeful that a cat will go to the bathroom. We are all on litter watch.

Thank you everyone for your kind words and boops and prayers for Elsa. If you could send a few more her way in the hopes she will use the bathroom and pass this blockage, we would all greatly appreciate it.

Will change my avatar from Hazel to Elsa, so you know who you are sending well wishes to!

I’m wondering if folks who live in climates where it doesn’t snow truly understand what a “snow day” is. It’s a day when the snow is so deep that everything closes down—businesses, churches, schools, sometimes even roads. There is a constant news crawl at the bottom of the TV screen announcing which places are closing.

The kids are the perfect age. Time for SNOW CREAM! This was a frequent flyer when we lived in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. All you need is a nice and heavy fresh snow fall.

Of course, the big Valentine’s Day trend is to announce your “cryptid crush.” Nonsense. I have no such thing!

That’s what we need, a snow day. We’d finally gotten some decent snow cover about two weeks ago and now it’s gone. What snow is left has turned to ice. And until two days ago it was “You better hope you’re lucky not to break your neck” glare ice. Now with the artic conditions returning, that ice is just making the temps worse.
