Reminds me of a Bugs Bunny/Yosemite Sam cartoon, where Sam hollers, “This town ain’t big enough for both of us!”

Then, there are sounds of hammering and sawing, and Bugs shows all the new buildings he erected, but Sam still isn’t satisfied!!

I thought Calvin was more inventive than that. A stick makes a good toy gun.

Of course, these days the kids might not be so inclined to use their imagination when they can just shoot things in a video game.

Hobbes sees zoning as a good replacement for guns in taking of property. Seems to be working well in many places.

Why wouldn’t Calvin’s mom allow them to play with guns? They would obviously be using toy guns not real guns

When we were young, we used sticks as guns. When we were a little older, we had cap guns…..but in true kid-form, I had more fun exploding the caps with a rock. LOL

Take toy guns away from kids, they pick up sticks and pretend it is a gun. Always happens.

Yeah, you get way more of other people’s stuff with contracts and taxes than with guns. Guns are for the little people.

The City rezoned my property and the other three on the west side of the cul-de-sac “Multi-family”. I don’t see the point, except maybe the planners trying to justify their salaries by changing things.

Any stick can be either a gun or a sword – or both – in the active mind of a pre-teen boy.

In Albuquerque four years ago my grandson asked a classmate if he liked to go shooting – our son had taken him out target shooting in the desert a couple of times. The police brought him home and grilled his father (who is brain injured) about the kid’s “obsession” with guns. It seems the first day of school included a lecture about Albuquerque Public Schools’ gun policy. No mention of guns, no drawing pictures of guns, no gun anything at all. Our grandson missed the first day of school because of a registration glitch so he missed the warning.

The current school year included an incident in the first week of school (the one our other grandson attended) where one student shot and killed another student at school about some beef involving a third person. It appeared the dead student was just a kid who tried to de-escalate the argument and the shooter’s father was a repeat violent felon. I doubt refusing to talk about a problem is the best way to deal with it.

My late DH was a city planner. He could relate to a three-way showdown among the neighborhood, the zoning board, and the historic preservation society. Not to mention big money ….

Brilliant diversionary tactic. I am the oldest of four brothers. When we were children, I had to come up with some interesting diversionary tactics when my younger brothers started doing something that would lead to trouble. I had the responsiblity for them but no authority, i.e. couldn’t hit them. I became a storyteller and actor without even realizing it.
