Seems like a Marathon Track Trivia conversation.

Be interesting to see in which direction the next arc travels. This arc became dishwater 4 days ago.

So, it took him 80 years to complete a marathon? I could do that too.

Wonder what the F stands for

Bill Rogers won the Boston Marathon several times in the 70s-80s before the event had large purses which would attract world-class runners.

Odd thing to be competitive about, Frazz.

Is there a reason that someone that has no interest in running should know this information? I doubt if Jef Mallet knows anything about some of my interests. I could be wrong about that of course :-)

And here I thought that Amby Burfoot was a pun on “Ambles Barefoot”.

“Everyone” knows that Bill ‘Tiger’ Destefani has flown a piston engine plane faster than 500mph. But how many know that John Penny also flew laps exceeding 500mph in the same race? Well I guess knowing this puts us ahead of everyone who doesn’t know who they are. (my avatar is Destefani’s Strega at Reno in 2012 (piloted in that race by Steve Hinton)).

I’m going to suggest “Amby” as a name to the next pregnant woman I meet.

My brother has completed the 7 marathons on 7 continents challenge (Yea, its a thing. The hardest was a pair, Antarctica and then Ushuaia, Argentina 4 days later) now he will have to get new knees in a couple of years (I love him, but I never said he was sane). Heads of Frazz, this is common in long term runners.

No – you are in no way ahead of us. Their achievements, while mildly impressive within their context, are meaningless outside of it, and are of no importance to us.

Everyone needs a hobby.

And Ed Whitlock ran a sub-3 hour marathon when he was 70!

I’ve also noticed all those who don’t exercise end up dying (sorry, had to finish my thought).

Ok, smart guy, without Googling it, do you know Willem Kolff is? Different things are important to different people.

To go for a little more realistic take on what would happen between an actual 8-year-old and an actual school janitor, the kid could be raving about the latest K-Pop performers he saw on TikTok and the janitor could be going “Whaaa?”.

“Oh Frazz? You missed a spot. Also, someone embezzled your entire fortune. Better hold on to the janitor job tight!”

No. But I met Jackie Cochran and Eugene Wesley Roddenberry. She was a WASP like my grandmother. He was a retired USAAF and Pan Am pilot who later wrote and produced radio and tv programmes.

Dang… Hasn’t this arc ‘run’ it’s course yet?

Mike Royko once wrote a column about how many Schmucks and Putzes there were in the US!

It turned out that there were 652 Putzes and 464 Schmucks scattered across the country (according to 1994 phone directories.)

I haven’t been been alive for eight decades, but I’m certain I’ve gone 26.2 miles in the time I have been around.

Amby Burfoot! Only the second name I recognize all week besides Bannister.
