Guards are down which brings a frown. “Call the dispatch number!”

No purloin of precious Froyne. It glistens under glass

Odd the thief did risk such grief yet gave the prize a pass.

Wait a minit. Thief was in it. No sensors nor alarm?

There is no curse. Something worse has brought these guards to harm.

Another drunken party at the museum. Tsk tsk.

It seems by the optional panel on the first row that the exhibit did open on time as Tracy promised it would, so that’s some progress, but what to make of the police officers sprawled all over the floor? At the very least, they don’t look capable of letting anyone in. Very strange, because it seems that the Froyne of Layven is still there. Now, we do seem to have a mystery.

first time I ever saw Dick spew out coffee… must have coincidentally been having that snail coffee just as Sam was giving him the news…

Will there be covert video that shows all ?  I’ll bet they didn’t think of that. On the coffee spit; no big loss as it is only bulk purchase vending machine fare. I’ve never seen Tracy so emotional as he is now. Tracy is in danger of becoming just another guy with that attitude.

It is a puzzle, why somebody went through the trouble of gassing the guards & apparently bypassing the high-tech security stuff, only to leave the artifact untouched. It seems hard to believe they replaced it with a fake, since they left behind evidence (the knocked out guards) that something illegal occurred, & the first thing Tracy & the curators will do is examine the artifact for its authenticity. & if another, more valuable. museum piece was the target, why did we just waste a week hearing about this idol? On another note, the writers, whoever they are, do seem to be really big on having Tracy sitting around drinking coffee, whether he’s in New Moon Valley or the MCU.

One of those bizarre exhibits did the deed.

I’m sorry, but I’m not a fan of the spit take panel. It’s just wrong on so many levels, firstly it isn’t drawn correctly IMO and it’s something that Tracy would never do. He’s always calm or at least restrained in his emotion at those moments so he can take charge and think clearly.

Maybe I’m wrong.

Now we know why Sam is not Head of Detectives . Dick jumps into action immediately after being told about the note that Sam never reacted to.

Sam’s delayed reaction could lead to the death of those officers in the museum from a lack of immediate first aid to counteract what they were exposed to. Now we see why Sam has had no career advancement and how did he ever get into the Major Crimes Unit ?

The Curse has begun! And the first curator to talk about it will be the criminal.

No one on the outside has a key? There’re all inside? That’s no way to run a museum — or any other business. (And we can assume that is a fake idol instead of the real Myrt.)

Sam is supposed to be a detective, too. But he’s completely unconcerned, and needs Tracy to tell him that this might be serious.

Tracy spat his coffee out was funny, but how did he quickly figure that part out? was it that obvious.

Well, at least today’s strip offers a little excitement after a week of dry exposition, though it’s somewhat spoiled by out-of-character actions and unnecessary slapstick….

Why does it seem Tracy is wearing his gun, while sitting at his desk? Wouldn’t it be SOP for him to place it a drawer, until he needs to go out?

That’s most of a cup being spewed out there. What’s Dick been doing? Gargling his java?

Nigh shift was SUPPOSED to lock the doors, right? Is this going to turn into a locked room mystery? The criminal is still inside?

For Pete’s SAKE, Tracy. It’s nappie time at the museum. Please keep it QUIET. And, Sam? Next time you change the oil in the squad car, do it n a bucket, not the coffee maker.

Holy Hannah? I used to see that in the DC army/war comics back in the 60s. This is the first time I’ve seen it anywhere since then.

I hope DT didn’t lose his whole breakfast! Would Sam have to clean up the mess?

Dang! I’m more or less repeating an earlier Reply I made here, because I thought I’d lost that due to a momentary computer glitch I experienced; nonetheless, onward:

IMO, the downed cops/guards have been gassed (not killed). So, the guilty party is likely the one who might most readily have gassed the enclosed spaces of the museum. My suspicions are tending to shift from Wren to Basil, whose odd coloration might be due to experimenting with the sleeping gas, and whose fake “cough” might be a cover for him to use some facial covering to protect against the gas (some form of gas mask).

Tracy’s full-bore coffee spew does seem a bit overdone and out of character for the usually imperturbable Chief of Detectives, who has pretty much seen and/or done it all over the years. I guess neither he nor Sam had to change clothes, though.

Get in there ASAP, dayshift cops, and Tracy and sidekick Sam! And get EMTs on the scene (but would that emergency call go through dispatch, as Tracy directs?)….
