I’m so glad Georgia joined in on the tribute to Charles Shultz on the 100th anniversary of his birth. Beatrix is such a good reporter, and Trevor gave a great response.
As a massive fan of spike I find this show of support for what’s easily my faviorite peanuts character from what’s become one of my faviorite comic strips (and given i’ve read quite a few and read quite a few daily, that is indeed saying something) one of the best things to come out of this thanksgiving weekend. Thank you so much Georgia for this wonderful tribute to one of our finest cartoonist and finest good boys.
The way I learned to read was by having my parents read Peanuts strips to me at bedtime. I wouldn’t be surprised if that was true for a lot of kids…. another way Charles Schulz made a positive impact in the world.
Mutts doesn’t syndicate anymore. He sends out a daily comic in email instead. He sent a wonderful one this morning with Mooch at a museum standing in front of a framed Snoopy and a little heart over Mooch’s head. So sweet! I wish he was still syndicated though.
This is lovely. Puck’s expression and Trevor’s statement said it all. Nobody appreciated the beauty of small things or the importance of never giving in like Charles Schulz.
I have been enjoying all the tributes for Charles Schulz. Bringing back so many memories of the greatest cartoon strip ever. Very blurry screen this morning. Thank you Georgia for bringing Spike into the mix of tributes.
JAY REIDER commented on “Ten Cats” (which also was a tribute) that this link has some other Schulz comic tributes.—https://www.oregonlive.com/comics-kingdom/?
I love the reverence of Spike! I will say he looks fatter here than he did in most of his Peanuts appearances. I guess this is AFTER Lucy fattened him up!
When I was 6 yrs old (1962) one of my parents friends gave me several original Peanuts books (I think there were 5,maybe) I read them for years. they disappeared when I left home, but I remember reading them for hours. I wish I still had them now. The Jazz station in town plays the Lucy and Linus theme quite often. I ask you, how many of us can hear the opening notes and not think of Charlie Brown, Lucy, Snoopy, and the rest of the gang…Thank you Charles Shultz for a lifetime of fun and sweet memories.
Growing up in the same MinnesotaTwin Cities as Sparky, we have two newspapers. The Minneapolis Tribune that carried Peanuts and St Paul (Where he grew up) Pioneer Press.
We rarely got the Tribune so I didn’t get to see Peanuts all the time till Dad retired and gets both papers.
Well I just saw both papers today, and shocked that no story is in the Tribune but there is one about Sparky, in the St Paul Pioneer Press.
Dad says Charles wanted PP to carry his Peanuts toon but for some reason they didn’t want it so over the Mississippi River the Tribune took it.
I got caught thinking it was going to be Snoopy and laughed when I saw Spike. Silly me…ha..ha.. Basically I never lost the smile on my face when I read all the comics today…the tributes to Charles Schulz were touching and fun even got me teary eyed. It was just an extra enjoyable comic strip day….I read so many of them daily…and just wish I could read them all.
Of all the Charles Schulz tributes today, IMHO this was the best. It was sweet without being sticky, clever without being cutesy, and rang true with a quite valid but unexpected, and probably underappreciated, viewpoint. And in best BCN style, it was all positive.
I love all these little tributes that comic strips are doing today. In part because this is how I found out it was Charles Schulz’s birthday in the first place.
LATE BREAKING CAT NEWS: THIS STRIP IS GOING TO THE CHARLES SCHULZ MUSEUM!
“The ‘Breaking Cat News’ strip that ran in newspapers on Charles Schulz’s 100th birthday this year will now be a part of the Charles Schulz Museum collection!! They reached out to cartoonists who created tribute strips this past November, asking if we would consider donating them. I jumped at the chance, (of course!) and am so honored that my strip was accepted.”

Meanwhile, Back on the Nile
Beatrixia: Did you bring the flowers?
Trevor-Hotep: Yep, fresh from the Puppy Hill Daisy Farm!
Thomios: I have some new desserts created by Patty. A lovely combination of chocolate and peppermint!
Puckmosis: The music will be provided by a young piano prodigy named Schroeder.
Elvis-Anum: Do we even have pianos?
Puckmosis: Yes. I’m not sure how we got it.
Agnes-Ata: We’ll never tell!
Lupinium: And for the opening ceremony, I’m going to kick the football!
THWUMP
Bea: Wow! He did it, even though Lucy took away the football!
Lupinium: I wouldn’t let a little thing like that stop me.
Lucy: I’m alright!
Queen Catshepsut the Golden: I declare the celebration open. Happy 100th, Charles Schulz!

“Peanuts,” the most popular comic strip of all time, was born right here at the St. Paul Pioneer Press Dispatch — sort of.
As an infant, Schulz was nicknamed “Sparky” by an uncle who liked Spark Plug the horse, a character in the comic strip “Barney Google.”
