My last stage performance was when I was in a 3rd or 4th grade Christmas play and had one line. One line. Nine little words. And then the curtain came down forever.
Imagine the audience as your own dog who is always happy to see you and is wagging his tail? This is a great idea! Way, way better than imagining them naked or in their underwear! Sounds really like the kind of idea Luann can have, simple, original and genial. I think that imagining the audience as dead turtles could be the perfect way to calm Piro. Once again Luann’s help to her friends was precious. I really hope that Piro’s reading will be shown, I want to know more about him!
Just remember, only a small part of the audience will actually be paying any attention to what you’re saying. The rest will be thinking about something else.
While I am a good writer, my presentation is more in the hypnotic range, put you to sleep in minutes; not bad unless you’re presenting your orals in the doctrinal program; especially one on using hypnotherapy for patients suffering from addictions other than Drugs/Alcohol.
If neurotic whine bag, Pedro’s, trust fund is big enough, you know our Beloved Ann❤️Eiffel is there. Pedro is such a loser. And the way he is treating Luann shows that he, indeed, didn’t respect her in the morning. Pedro is a complete jerk. Then again, our Dearest Ann❤️Eiffel doesn’t respect any of her victims in the morning. Why should Ann❤️Eiffel respect them in the morning? Ann❤️Eiffel doesn’t respect them the night before, either. We all know Ann❤️Eiffel is the Woman all men want and all women want to be like but Luann should take a clue from Ann❤️Eiffel. And you can Count on it. ttfn… Count Out.
I find the easy interaction between almost clinically withdrawn Piro and sweet daffy apple Luann to be easy and thus interesting. Opposites attract in this strip. So?
There are two people in the background that have those beer dispenser hats on LOL! I can’t remember what those were called, but the had two beer cans and tubes that got drank out of. What year are we in again?
When I was in Junior High (over 50 years ago) I had to read an essay I had written in front of a full auditorium. Nervous but I was doing ok. Then I had an “absence seizure” a form of Epilepsy where you black out and when you come back, you are confused and don’t know where you are. It was mortifying. Never really had a chance to do that again, but it’s really controlled well now with meds. I was laughed at a lot when I was in school.
When I was best man at my buddy’s wedding I had to make a speech, which I wasn’t aware of. I just blurred the audience and winged it, and I was later told I did a great job and had prepared well.
Piro doesn’t need to be so nervous. The audience is probably just the friends and family of the two readers. Not many others would have an interest in the reading of college students.
I worked for a small medical device manufacturer for many years that had about 40 employees. A new owner had taken over and he wanted us ALL to get used to public speaking and speaking with physicians. He was a neuroscientist. So, we all had to present exactly what our job was to the rest of the crew. Everyone was a nervous wreck, including me. But, when I finally got up there, after a couple of minutes, I stopped stammering and just began speaking as if I were telling a friend what I did. Later, lots of my colleagues said mine was the most interesting or helpful. I was pleased.
Looking into the crystal ball: no one cares about what Luann and Piro have to say or how they say it. They (we) are more interested in remembering our own experiences on the stage or at a podium. For me it was like facing a firing squad. I swear, all those buggers were armed with spears.

Yes.. imagine the audience naked.. or dead. lol
It’s starting to look like Piro will stick around after all.
I didn’t really picture Piro as a turtle guy.. but at least we now know a bit about his childhood.

I think I see Bernice in the crowd….

Ah, that old trick for overcoming stage fright: Imagine your audience as if they were all mutant ninjas.

Turtle? Dead? Better yet don’t look directly at the audience. Look above their heads past them.
J. Scarbrough almost 2 years ago
Naw Piro: think of your audience as a bunch of fun-lovin’, pizza-chowin’ dudes!
But otherwise, I have to say, much like Bernice, Luann actually cleans up nicely.

When she did theater? She didn’t really like it much anyway, did she? Her essays aren’t even about theater. They’re about grooming

From what I could see, it looks like a couple of people of people in the audience have antlers on their heads.

I thought they (the audience) were already dead to Piro, for all it was worth, but looks like Luann has given him a good confidence-boosting idea.

I had staff meetings quite often. Imagining someone naked? Most times that would be a nightmare considering the body shape of some of them.

I guess the operative word (on Piro’s part) is “had” meaning the turtle is now dead (?) hence Luann’s remark about dead turtles.

To each his (or her) own.
For me, it wasn’t stage fright, exactly. Rather, it was a fear of forgetting my lines (though it never happened except in pre-opening nightmares).
