Well, John, some women transform when they put on make up, wear fancy hairstyles and a formal dress and walk in heels, unlike your Elly. She only puts on a ribbon on her ponytail, sensible dress and low heels. She is a mom. Have we ever seen Elly dress the way Rhetta is here? She probably did while dating John or she did not, which I suspect because John was speechless here as if he’s never seen girls like Rhetta all dressed up.
I am with John with his dumbfounded reaction. Why in panel one, is Rhetta growing a big Tom Selleck looking mustache over her mouth? Especially for the High School graduation night?
Our grandson just graduated from high school. He rarely dresses up but he did, of course, for the JR/Sr Prom dance. The pictures that were taken almost looked like wedding photos. So, yeah, they can sure clean up nice and look good.
You know, I had a similar sort of shock when I saw most of my classmate girls get all dressed up for graduation. Makeup and cleavage can really make a difference. Not sorry.
I am reminded of seeing my daughter all dressed up for her Graduation Prom and being astounded. I couldn’t believe the beautiful young woman standing there was my little girl. It still brings a tear to my eye.
Of course, I also can’t believe that she’ll be 52 in August and is a grandmother!
In following the law according to television; Michael and Rhetta must get married, since they went to prom together. Next up, graduating from college. Next up, marriage. Next up, jobs. Next up, 2.4 children.
Yet, I wish I had a dollar, for every time I’ve read a guy comment online, how he loves women with a “natural” look…and how much better it is than make-up,sexy dresses and all that jazz.
It is funny they edited out the “BOING!” sound effect and John’s eyes- the former probably looks too sexual these days and the latter… I dunno, but they were probably like “yeah maybe don’t show the 40-something dad being mind-blown by the attractiveness of a teenager”. Who makes the edits in these, anyways?

It’s magic John, magic. We just nod our heads 3 times and presto! ( in reality it took 4 hours and $1200.00.)

Please tell me that April just walloped John in the nards again. Otherwise, his reaction in the third panel seems a bit creepy.

My sons on Prom nights would bring knock-out beautiful women home for pictures. Those girls from high school transformed!

The state liquor authority fancies up underage girls to buy booze. They look of age and then the liquor store is busted.

Gasp! He noticed she was looking attractive, and very grown up looking. So the makes him a pervert? People gotta lighten up.

On the last year of LEAVE IT TO BEAVER, Eddie Haskell thought it was funny to fix Wally up with a prom date who was six inches taller than him.
The girl skipped the high heels and the beehive haircut and they had a great time
