Earl you’re not helpless. This is just your way of showing Opal you can’t live without her.

Maybe you’re colorblind. Sometimes I can’t tell my navy blue socks from my black ones.

When you quit looking or get to the very bottom of the drawer, then there it is.

Since I grew up in my mother’s house, went through USAF OTS, and have been married twice, I know four ways to put away a pair of socks.

Solved. I have two drawers with sox. One of them has up to 10 pairs of white sox, all the same (because they get washed weekly so sometimes it’s down to 3 pairs). In the other drawer I have two pairs of dress sox: One brown, one very dark blue. I buy a dozen new pairs of white sox about every year or so, but I’ve had the dark sox for decades.

I throw out all my socks every 5 years, and get a pack of new ones all in black. That way they all match and nobody has to worry about non-matching socks ever again

Maybe the blue sock she found isn’t the blue sock he’s looking for.

Aging sometimes brings ‘tunnel vision’ which lets one miss the object that’s just to the right of left of focus. Of course, tv isn’t limited to objects. It can also affect one’s thinking about the solution to household problems or a political philosophy.

My dad used to do what Opal does…when we would try to find something in the kitchen and not be able to find it, he would go in and find it exactly where it was left…although he would do it without the snide comment that Opal used…

There’s a funny video out there somewhere about “what if men had tech support” where a guy FaceTimes the support guy to help him find the ketchup in the fridge

I match my socks before I put them in the drawer so they are always together. I did the same for my wife. She was the one who used to throw socks into the drawer and then look for a pair when she needed them. That is part of why I took over laundry.

I put them together so they aren’t separated. All organized by color & type. Thick in second row, thinner in first row.

My wife leaves her stuff anywhere. I put my stuff in it’s assigned place(s). I think she finds stuff out of place because she looks for color and form while I look in place.

I am reminded of the Steve Martin remake of “Father of the Bride”

After going through a difficult selection process to pick a “proper” tux for his daughter’s wedding he shows up and the wedding Planner (hilariously played by Martin Short) says, “Navy blue, bold choice!” Even the viewer can’t tell the difference until then.

Remind me of the days when I was a mail carrier and delivered Social Security checks monthly. I approached a house with a lady standing on the front porch. I greeted her and handed her her mail. As I walked away, she yelled, “my check, my check, where is my check.” Her husband, alarmed, stepped onto the porch and asked her what was the matter. She said, “I didn’t get my check.” He looked at her hand and asked, “what’s that?” She was holding the check. Another time, I placed mail in a certain box, walked ahead a few more houses delivering and crossed the street and began delivering mail in the opposite direction. A man crossed the street very excited and disturbed and said, “I didn’t get my check. I didn’t get my check.” I walked across the street to his mail box, took out the check and handed it to him. He, relieved, then asked, “where did you find it?” I simply answered, “in the box.”

Different “lost item”, same result: I can’t find something in the fridge, so I say “we don’t have that!”. My sister walks up to the open fridge, moves the mayonnaise jar and pulls out what I was looking for. Rinse and repeat…

I think we should all keep left socks and right socks in separate drawers. It becomes a simple matter to grab one sock from each drawer. Does anybody really care whether your socks match?

(I have this nagging feeling I’ve forgotten something fundamentally wrong with my plan.)

    :)
