A newly high school graduate who doesn’t need a degree to learn. He’s got it hands on – nothing beats that. And saved thousands of dollars on college education.
“Here, Gordo, let me write you a big fat check, so you can turn this little gas station into an EMPIRE! Because we Patterson’s have that golden touch, nothing we get involved with ever fails! Remember, Rome started out as a mud hut sitting on a hill on the banks of the Tiber. But YOU, my boy, will be BIGGER than Rome, BIGGER than Caesar! Just start selling cinnamon buns, and it will all come together!”
The ego on this guy. No credit to his sick boss who took the time to teach a kid barely out of high school about insurance or income tax, things you just did not learn on your own back in 1994, in the pre-internet days.
Lynn Johnston said that Gordon was the secondmost non-Patterson whom she got hate mail about. People either told her this was way too much of a happy ending that Gordon ended up how he did considering he came from a broken home. Others felt that this was promoting capitalism in Canada, which for some seems to be like flying the rebel flag in Massachusetts.
Mrs. Cunin, My mother, Roberta’s sister that name is Billyjean not Rosemarie’s friend has a little child named Krissy that does block me from coming in my drawingroom!P.S Brother Bryan’s face from New Jerusalem’s face traumatized me!
Mrs. Cunin, “my brother” does harrass me rell bad. I have two criminals that took over my whole entire land because I went in “his” house’s yard that I’m very welcomed there!
What put that all in perspective was Captains Courageous by Rudyard Kipling. When the spoiled boy is reunited with his parents, he has become mature and knowledgable about seamanship. The boy’s father, who is a millionaire, know well that he cannot reward the captain with money, and instead asks about the captain’s own son (who is a deckhand about the same age as the boy). The captain is proud of his son, but admits he is also lousy with numbers and a weak navigator, to which the millionaire recommends an apprecticeship with his own line of clippers and says his men will work to sharpen that problem. Proud of what his son has become, the millionaire shares his story which no one, not even his wife, ever knew: He was orphaned in Texas and had no school. He was willing to take on whatever kind of work he could find, eventually getting the willpower and determination that later made him a captain of industry. When the son thinks that is a good reason to brush aside college, the millionaire said “Indeed not. There were many mistakes I could have steered clear of had I had a formal education.”
My “brother,” Ricardo does block me from coming into the drawingroom so he could he could have the drawingroom for himself. My baby picture hung up there since I was born.

for many years, my Dad (a pharmacist) owned and operated his own store. Looking back over the years, I kinda wonder how he did it.

Sounds like an episode of The Simpsons where there is a school presentation of yo-yo tricks, which enthralls the kids.
Miss Hoover: “I have serious doubts about the educational merit of this presentation.”
Miss Krabappel: “Heck, it’ll be one of their fondest memories when they are pumping gas for a living.”
