Burt, the master of chyron snark! And I love the look of concern on Lupin’s face. Worried that the cat brush may have gone missing? And is there a Human Horse inside the Big Pink House?
I’m sure Elvis just loves that the brush has the woman’s scent on it too. Yes it is soft, and the bristles are soothing to “skritich” on.
I am not sure the woman will appreciate Elvis’ gesture as much as he does. I found these neat silicone bristles on a flat mat that are designed to wrap on cat posts, or sofas. Our cats love them and use them constantly. Even lil’ baby Frodo likes them.
I saw them in a video clip where a farmer put similar mats out for his cattle, and how much they enjoyed them. The real purpose of these mats were to stimulate the feet by standing on them. But for cats, they are just soft tender tendrils gently massaging them, and helping loosen shed fur. A lot less hairballs to worry about.
My Mom had a vanity set with horsehair hairbrush, a mirror, comb and a jewelry jar and a box. She always had it on her dresser. All the accessories had her initials etched in the jade-colored backing/tops and must’ve dated from the early 1940s when she got it as a 16th birthday present from her parents, my grandparents.
After my mom passed away, one of my sisters salvaged the set, kept it for a while and then as a surprise, she gave it to my daughter Amy for her 16th birthday (as she does not have a daughter of her own to give it to). So, someday in the future, I am hoping that Amy will continue the “giving” tradition with the now antique vanity set and with some luck my wife, sister and I will be around to enjoy the moment as well. Strange how something like a horsehair brush will bring back such memories.
I wonder if the Woman also enjoys an occasional bowl of oats? warm and mushy, with raisins and brown sugar? Or perhaps savory oats, with a soft boiled egg and grated cheddar cheese?
Is anyone surprised that there is a “real” brush for cats, that probably is much despised, and no on has an affinity for, yet the “human” brush (used by Elvis on his own terms, of course!) is just fine?
We would come out on a cool morning to take care of the horses and on the top rail of one of the stalls, if I’d forgotten to put tack away, there’d be a cat sprawled on top of one of the brushes like they’d finally hit nirvana…
Our cats have a couple of those in the house. I took a couple of brushes with handles on them, went out to the workshop and cut out a couple of bases and drilled out a hole the size and shape of the end of the handle and glued the brushes in. The cats can just walk up to them whenever they want and give themselves a good brushing. We just have to get the hair out every once in a while.
That’s an odd comparison. I doubt most here have even seen a horse brush or used one. I have as an FYI. I preferred the curry comb. That rubbery piece of magic removed dirt and shedding hair like a champ.
Yesterday, while at work in the library, I had the delightful experience of checking out Pucky, Prince of Bacon, for a young patron – developing a new fan!
Felix had a human brush for his long fur. He loved being brushed, and would bite the brush when he’d had enough brushing. I still have the brush. Smile when I see his teeth marks.
My JackJack adores being brushed with the soft brush, but not so much with the pin brush. I have to use the pin brush to work on his mats. He hates that part.
We have one of those in our grooming kit for the clowder. Our meezers and the wegie love it. The taxi is ‘meh’ and the calico does not dislike it, but does not run to it. Cats are weird.

A human/horse brush . . . so, for a centaur?

And he’s getting his saliva on it too. Will he fight his woman for the brush or will she sacrifice the man for it?

Cats have scent glands on the sides of their face, so Elvis is marking his scent on the brush.

Well, the Woman’s long hair does resemble a horse’s mane.

Meanwhile, Back on the Nile
Iggy: Looks like quite a haul. We have Perfect Perch and Terrific Tilapia.
Salty: Patrice Possum should have a great selection for the Owl Temple buffet.
Fresh: And here we are.
At the Owl Temple
Patrice Possum: G’day, mates. What can I do you for?
Fresh: We have a tremendous haul of fish for the Basketball Tournament.
Patrice: I see your ship’s choc a block. Just the thing for the barbie.
Salty: Translate?
Iggy: I think she noted we have a lot of fish, just right for barbecuing.
Salty: I’ll get the hang of it.
