Traveling abroad, I’ve come to find that Canadians generally do not like to be mistaken for US citizens. I’ve seen them travel wearing red and white sweatpants-sweatshirts with maple leaves and “Canada“ printed everywhere.

There is more difference between folks from Texas, Georgia, or New Hampshire, than between a typical Canadian and American.

Canada comprises a large portion of the North American continent, making Canadians (wait for it) Americans.

Something I just noticed. The American tourists are dressed pretty much just like Jon and Ellie but John’s colors and patterns are on the female and vice versa with Ellie’s clothes.

No we do not look different. But we make a point to NOT look “American”. Unfortunately, Americans have a reputation in other countries of being arrogant, rude, and constantly bragging about how Americans invented everything and did everything first (they didn’t ) lol

John and El are following their government training: 1) Dress like the locals 2) Eat the local cuisine 3) If you smoke only use the local tobaccos. This way you’re almost invisible and they can’t smell your difference. It also helps to pick up a few languages along the way. Viet-Muong was my first support language.

American travelers abroad are encouraged not to look like Americans and will frequently adopt a Canadian emblem like flag on their garments.

I think, in general American tourist are considered rude. They expect.. American standards in third world countries. Canadian tourist are more forgiving to less than perfect English, accomodations, transportation.. food.

I am very surprised and very disappointed in my fellow commentors with their racists comments about differences of Canadians and Amercians. We are all human beings not matter where we come from and deserve to be treated kindly.

One of my pet peeves, a Canadian is an American as much as a Mexican or person from the U.S.. Pretty much also holds true for people from Central and South America. Anyone from the British Islands are British, this includes the English, Scots and Welsh.
