HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY!

It’s nice seeing good ol’ Auntie Bernie helping out Luann by playing with Shannon.

I’m also happy that this looks like the start of a NEW arc… even if Shannon is in it. ;)

It’s funny, back when I was a kid, we played with toy light sabers as well. Now 40+ years later, kids are playing with the same stuff… If only the new Star Wars movies could have been as good as the old ones. :)

Once again the real question is: with a paper due, why did she agree to watch Shannon?

Also. why does Luann always study in the kitchen? Doesn’t she have a table in her room? Wouldn;t she have more peace and quiet there?

Shannon grew! Last I saw her she was about belly button height. Now she’s chest height!

I hope that this is one of those holiday stand alone things so Shannon will just go out the door and disappear.

Brad & Toni could probably afford to pay Luann something for babysitting – as Luann doesn’t seem to have much income. However they probably don’t. We’ll see if Luann ever has a kid and gets any help in return.

How was Luanne talked into babysitting when she has an important assignment to do? Needs money? Is Frank THAT cheap?

In Panel #2, do Shannon’s hands and arms look disproportionately large? That would be a data point in favor of the hypothesis that she’s part gorilla.

From the looks of it, Bernice must really not like kids.

Unless Auntie Bernie plays it with a loaded Glock this is going to be a suck arc. Where is Dearest Ann❤️Eiffel when we really need her?

The poor child just needs attention. Her father is a waif and Luanne is too self absorbed. C’mon Bern, work with her.

Shannon seems unable to understand who loves her and who barely stand her. She seems to have understood that calling Bernice “auntie” has a positive effect. Probably she remember hearing her say how much she loves her nephews. It’s nice to see Bernice follow Shannon to let Luann write, I kinda hope to see what they’ll do now. Also, I wonder if this paper is the one Luann started before Mrs Horner fainted. She could write some deep reflections on recent events and understand things about herself.

So will Bernice psychoanalyze Shannon’s selfishness and get her to change her ways like she does with LuAnn?

I find it interesting that this comic, most days, generates the most comments especially if one excludes comics that have a political bent. Why do you think that is?

Does anyone know why everyone in the Luann universe seems to age a bit, with the exception of Shannon? She should be outgrowing that bratty stage by now.

This looks like a Sunday, rather than a daily comic.

Well, Shannon is growing up, so the strip must be moving forward in time, albeit slowly, judging from Shannon’s appearance and demeanor.

It is sad that no one wants to interact with the child. No wonder she has some issues. If she were in my life I would play with her, talk to her and listen to her.

So now her dad pawns her off on Toni, and she pawns her off on Lu Ann, and Lu Ann pawns her off on Bernice, who shows no interest in her. Great upbringing for this kid.

I’m glad to see Bernice becoming somewhat useful for a change.

I hope this is not a new arc.

What paper is Luann writing? is that the crux of the arc?

Yes, Shannon’s upbringing seems chaotic. In some past strips Shannon herself has looked on the bright side and thinks of all of them as her family. She knows they all care about her, even Bernice who may not want to play with her. Shannon and TJ get along so well because he had a rather lonely, chaotic upbginging too.

I wonder how much that toy light saber would be worth now? Especially if was still in the box.

Shannon looks too old to be such a nuisance. She needs some chores or go practice your clarinet or something.

Who delegated Shannon to Luann if she has to finish off some paper? You’d think that if Brad and toni are on shift, and, asked Frank and Nancy to watch Shannon they wouldn’t fob that reponsbility onto Luann, especially if she told them about the paper due.And, for someone who is usually snarking about Luann and coursework, Bernice does’t seem to want Luann to be able to finish it, by helping with Shannon.

I like that Bernice said no. Putting up boundaries is a very big concept in mental health care these days. It took me 64 years of living to put the concept into play and take care of myself. Comics don’t always have to be funny.

Don’t sign me up for a weekend at Bernie’s.

I still don’t understand why Luann gets saddled with this kid. She’s still in school, Brad and Toni are working, and I’m guessing mom & dad are at work, too. It’s time for Shannon’s flaky dad to hire a nanny already!

That poor kid is constantly being passed off to whoever isn’t too busy to deal with her at the moment.

And the toxic cynic arrives and drains the life out of everyone…

Shannon reminds of my Amos from 9CWL. In its early days Amos was a friend of Edda’s but he had no backstory. No parents, no home and apparently when Amos and Edda were five Edda’s mother would give them coed baths. Why she would give a stranger a bath or why she would give a coed bath at such a late age remains a mystery. Shannon has a backstory, or I should say had a backstory but most of the time it’s completely forgotten. Yes she has, allegedly, a father who drops her off unannounced with his sister (Toni) but lately Shannon seems to get dropped off with random strangers (sic) like Luann, again without announcement or care that Luann might have things she has to do. Unlike Dennis the Menace, who exists within a family structure, Shannon isn’t funny. Ever! G&K to stop using her.

I haven’t seen any SW after the first thing 6.
