Do you REALLY want that, Calvin? Most “stars” bemoan their lack of privacy, with the media on their tails every moment. And then, when their “celebrity” tanks, they turn to booze and drugs and end up in the gutter or with a police record.
Oh my dog. If only we had known that 30 years later, real people in real life with this very attitude and almost these very words would be tearing apart the fabric of society…
I think the Horizontal Output tube needs to be replaced. Either that, or the set is suffering from silver-mica disease.
(If you go on YouTube, look up the channel “shango066”. He’s out of Los Angeles and finds these old tube radios and TVs to resurrect. Not a full restore, but just to get them working, so someone else can do the full restore. Mind you, he can be hilarious, but also has opinions on certain social/political topics that don’t jibe with some people. So if your tolerance is pretty high, you’ll be fine.)
That cultural icon and prestige statement Calvin mentions is a real thing. I knew a weather forecaster from one of the local stations. He was a bit into himself. When I walked up to his front door in a prestigious neighborhood for the first time he literally had a brass plate on the door that said “Guess who lives here?”
You know, he’s right. Why do we care so much what someone on the other side of a camera says/thinks/does? What makes them smarter, more prescient than we are? Why are their opinions better than ours? Lately I’ve been noticing that the newer crop of news casters locally are endlessly looking at their phones and tablets, while reporting live. They can’t seem to remember a few seconds of text without a screen to look at. Then there’s the scrolling banners at the bottom of the screen that are mis-spelled and grammatically awful. But, I digress…
All strips about TV are an excellent example of how Watterson had all the subtlety of a sledgehammer. It’s just that for specifically Calvin, that’s fine, because since when are six-year-old boys subtle.
Now that you are on TV and famous, you can move in and smooch them, you don’t even have to wait. You can grab them by the TIGER and they can’t even resist.
Remind you of someone? Now he’s selling silver coins, $2 dollar bills with his mug photo, Trumpy Bears with optional ties, and Trading cards with fake images of himself. What else do you need to know. before you vote?

Better hold off “adjusting his antenna”. You might get paws for concern, especially in case of this “wiz” kid.
