Week three of this. I was hopipng weād get to Luann. Oh well. Iāve been doing a lot of reading. Time to find out why there is a Corpse in the Closet.
Methinks theyāll sit and talk about family. Brad will confess heād wait on having a kid until heās really ready for fatherhood and everything that comes with it. That he hadnāt realized how hard it is until he has had Shannon for more than a few days.
Besides, itās quite likely that Shannon will show up in your bedroom demanding āattentionā the very moment You and Toni decide to get ābusy.ā :-(
Looks like Nancy already took offā¦ I wonder if Bradās going to say: āYouāre right, kids suck, I donāt want any. Letās keep our money, free time, and mental stability in good shape!ā
Itās great that Brand has such an honest relationship with Toni that he can tell her how much he was struggling. Letās hope they can come out from this experience more ready to, eventually, have children.
Iām a little confused. Hasnāt Shannon stayed at Brad and Toniās place before? This isnāt the first time theyāve had to watch her, no? And with the split shifts they two have, it canāt be Bradās first time watching her by himself. However, if this event was such a big deal, imagine an ongoing encore for a couple of decadesā¦especially if you have more than one kid!
Toni will understand Brad feeling overwhelmed by the combination of household chores, and, Shannon, when itās her turn when Brad goes on shift. (Toni must have had a good shift, she looks well put together. Of course, she usually does.)
I am certainly enjoying this arc, but others have covered the family dynamics herein far better than I could hope toā¦.Iām gonna go with being really impressed with the Chevy poster on the wallā¦.when I was young I really, really wanted a ā68 Nova SS. Alas, never got one, had to settle on a well used ā73 Pinto instead :-P BUT, when I started working we had a mid/late ā70s Super Nova for a short time before it was retired. Four doors, obviously, but it had the huge V-8 and was a true sleeperā¦.got my Nova fix!
As a friend of mine once put it: āKidsā¦. Every aspect your life thatās disallowed by nap schedules, diaper genies, bed/bath routines, potty training, paying for childcare, school pickups/drop-offs, homework tantrums, attitude, slamming doors and cabinets, crashing around the house, never-ending laundry, continuous cooking for ungrateful whiners and picky eaters, insane meltdowns over screen time, refusing to go to bed, refusing to get out of bed and go to school, trashing the house, always-present dirty dishes, Driverās Ed, endless sporting or performance practices/games/events, the never-ending/omnipresent f**king CONSTANT NOISEā¦ and thatās not to touch on the lack of free time, insane financial drain, psychotic exhaustion, resentment of a spouse who I am most likely only staying married to because of the kids, ruining your life and bending to the ever-present entitlement for little people taking up space in your house who make messes and pay no rent that you will definitely love but may not like very much. For me, itās a HARD PASS. Iām well-rested, mentally-balanced and my 401k and Roth IRA are well-funded.ā
So Toniās home. Does that mean Brad is leaving for his shift and we have to watch her dealing with Shannon all next week???? And does that leave the last week of the month for some other unlucky character in this comic?
āThank you. And Shannonāsā¦reading quietly in bed, waiting for you to come say goodnight.ā
Wait, what?
In Panel 1 of Thursdayās strip, Nancy said, āShannon conked out after her bathā.
Wouldnāt that actually mean that sheās already asleep, and cannot possibly be reading? (And please, donāt anyone even think of telling me that sheās āsleep-readingā.)
This has nothing to do with the story line, but didnāt Brad have a more pointed head at one point? It seems like his head got more ānormalā as he got more mature? Oh I got it, itās like Sheldonās narration during āYoung Sheldonā, all of this is seen from Luannās perspective. As Brad got wiser, Luann slowly quit looking at him as a āpin headā.
Iāve been negligent in commenting recently, for a number of reasons, but I hope I can keep up a better pace. Itās been interesting follofor the big miswing where the strip is going, but Iām waiting for the maybe inevitable misdirection play, the ultimate one. We see.

Will Brad confess he had to call his mom to help? Or will he take all the credit for himself?
