Methinks they’ll sit and talk about family. Brad will confess he’d wait on having a kid until he’s really ready for fatherhood and everything that comes with it. That he hadn’t realized how hard it is until he has had Shannon for more than a few days.
Looks like Nancy already took off… I wonder if Brad‘s going to say: “You’re right, kids suck, I don’t want any. Let’s keep our money, free time, and mental stability in good shape!”
It’s great that Brand has such an honest relationship with Toni that he can tell her how much he was struggling. Let’s hope they can come out from this experience more ready to, eventually, have children.
I’m a little confused. Hasn’t Shannon stayed at Brad and Toni’s place before? This isn’t the first time they’ve had to watch her, no? And with the split shifts they two have, it can’t be Brad’s first time watching her by himself. However, if this event was such a big deal, imagine an ongoing encore for a couple of decades…especially if you have more than one kid!
Toni will understand Brad feeling overwhelmed by the combination of household chores, and, Shannon, when it’s her turn when Brad goes on shift. (Toni must have had a good shift, she looks well put together. Of course, she usually does.)
I am certainly enjoying this arc, but others have covered the family dynamics herein far better than I could hope to….I’m gonna go with being really impressed with the Chevy poster on the wall….when I was young I really, really wanted a ’68 Nova SS. Alas, never got one, had to settle on a well used ’73 Pinto instead :-P BUT, when I started working we had a mid/late ’70s Super Nova for a short time before it was retired. Four doors, obviously, but it had the huge V-8 and was a true sleeper….got my Nova fix!
As a friend of mine once put it: “Kids…. Every aspect your life that’s disallowed by nap schedules, diaper genies, bed/bath routines, potty training, paying for childcare, school pickups/drop-offs, homework tantrums, attitude, slamming doors and cabinets, crashing around the house, never-ending laundry, continuous cooking for ungrateful whiners and picky eaters, insane meltdowns over screen time, refusing to go to bed, refusing to get out of bed and go to school, trashing the house, always-present dirty dishes, Driver’s Ed, endless sporting or performance practices/games/events, the never-ending/omnipresent f**king CONSTANT NOISE… and that’s not to touch on the lack of free time, insane financial drain, psychotic exhaustion, resentment of a spouse who I am most likely only staying married to because of the kids, ruining your life and bending to the ever-present entitlement for little people taking up space in your house who make messes and pay no rent that you will definitely love but may not like very much. For me, it’s a HARD PASS. I’m well-rested, mentally-balanced and my 401k and Roth IRA are well-funded.”
So Toni’s home. Does that mean Brad is leaving for his shift and we have to watch her dealing with Shannon all next week???? And does that leave the last week of the month for some other unlucky character in this comic?
“Thank you. And Shannon’s…reading quietly in bed, waiting for you to come say goodnight.”
Wait, what?
In Panel 1 of Thursday’s strip, Nancy said, “Shannon conked out after her bath”.
Wouldn’t that actually mean that she’s already asleep, and cannot possibly be reading? (And please, don’t anyone even think of telling me that she’s “sleep-reading”.)
This has nothing to do with the story line, but didn’t Brad have a more pointed head at one point? It seems like his head got more “normal” as he got more mature? Oh I got it, it’s like Sheldon’s narration during “Young Sheldon”, all of this is seen from Luann’s perspective. As Brad got wiser, Luann slowly quit looking at him as a “pin head”.
I’ve been negligent in commenting recently, for a number of reasons, but I hope I can keep up a better pace. It’s been interesting follofor the big miswing where the strip is going, but I’m waiting for the maybe inevitable misdirection play, the ultimate one. We see.

Will Brad confess he had to call his mom to help? Or will he take all the credit for himself?

Ohhhhhh tell the truth, Brad.
Besides, it’s quite likely that Shannon will show up in your bedroom demanding “attention” the very moment You and Toni decide to get “busy.” :-(

Interesting picture on the wall. The Chevy Nova. Never sold in Spanish speaking countries, because “no va” in Spanish means “does not go”.
