Remember that BRADY BUNCH episode where the boys and the girls couldn’t agree what to spend their trading stamps on, so they competed at building a house of cards?
I still use the TV trays from the Green Stamp Store in Sunrise Center in El Paso, Texas. I went with my Mother to get them, sometime between 1960 and 1962. She still has some other things we got there; we talked about it a few weeks ago.
I worked at a supermarket back in the 80s that gave out Green Stamps. Our busiest days were Friday, Saturday and Tuesday. Tuesday? Double Green Stamp Day!!
I collected Green Stamps in the 70s but after that they disappeared in Oregon. Can’t remember what I bought with them, long gone I’m sure! There were also Gold Bond Stamps, a little less common.
I remember helping my mother stick them in the books in the 1960s, our entire large kitchen table would be covered in the stamps and books. But at least we didn’t lick them, Mom used a damp sponge, thankfully. Sometimes, a little too damp, I can remember the book pages being warped from the water after they dried, made for some very thick books, lol.
I now feel guilty about all the Raleigh cigarettes my parents smoked to get me a baseball glove. The tobacco industry never felt that physiological addiction was a strong enough incentive to keep people smoking.
I equipped my first kitchen (1974) with S&H Green Stamps – I still have some of my favorite kitchen tools from that set, especially my nice big cooking spoon! I did have a really nice serrated knife, but my husband ran it through the dishwasher a couple of times and ruined the wooden handle.
I remember my mom collecting them, but it wasn’t until I was grown with kids that I ever got anything with them. We had a redemption place in Littleton, NH. It would have been nice had she given us her books. We might have been able to get something really nice!
Mom redeemed her stamps for a full set of fine china for 12 with serving dishes. We still have most of the set and have passed it down to my niece and her family of 10.
My parents got luggage with the stamps and the luggage was – yes – plaid! I was young and figured that the luggage was plaid BECAUSE they were plaid stamps.
I used to stick them into the books for my parents as I loved playing with the stamps.

Top Value stamps were more common where I grew up. Still have a good steak knife obtained with Top Value, but the rest of the set has disappeared.

It’s not that ugly. I’ve seen worse. As a matter of fact, I have an uglier one.

I remember my siblings and I begging for a waffle iron, but alas it was blankets, lunchboxes, and TV tables.

My Mom, my sister and I would get S& H green stamps then drive 30 miles to get stuff and we would make a day of it. Nice memories.
