When I was Hammie’s age, my dad had me fetching his beer or wine for him every evening at supper time. I don’t think this messed me up in any way. On the contrary, I think the fact that it was handled so casually made me less inclined to start drinking at a young age. Alcohol was something I could eazily have gotten, probably without anyone noticing, so there was no particular fascination with it. So, I very much disagree with Wanda, here. While not exactly award-worthy, this was a perfectly fine fatherhood moment. If anything, by reinforcing the idea that beer is totally forbidden, Wanda is the one being a bad parent.
Before my dad gave up drinking, when I was still a young kid, he would ask me to fetch him and beer and I would. It was considered normal. There’s nothing wrong with this unless Hammy gives dad an OPEN beer. Then it’d be suspicious.
I know some people are saying this is an overreaction on Wanda’s part, but I’m actually siding with her here. I understand that some parents would rather their kids not handle alcoholic drinks in any way. It’s not overprotective. It’s just that a kid holding a bottle of beer isn’t a great visual.
Wanda, what is your problem now. Darryl said go get me a beer, not open the beer and drink it. Hammie, Zoe, and Wren KNOW that Darryl drinks beer so what is your problem?
If a kid getting a beer from the household fridge for the parent is “bad” – then there shouldn’t be beer in the house. Geesh, fetching beer has been a German kid’s task for centuries and still is. The comic should be americanized and the kid could fetch their parent a joint.

At least it wasn’t cigarettes. My mom sent me to the store for those once, but the clerk wouldn’t sell them to me since I was underage.

Ok, Hambot, go ask your pretty mother to bring me a beer.
Sheesh, you’d think I asked for something illegal.

I worked a steakhouse as a dishwasher before heading off to college. Wasn’t allowed to touch glassware except water glasses.

Are you kidding, my dad would send me to the fridge to get him and my uncles all beers. I would send my kids to get me a beer.

Bad daddy. I did not know he drank.

There is no problem with a kid bringing you a beer. However, don’t share it with them.
ctolson about 1 month ago
My folks would send me and my siblings to get them and their friends a beer all the time. No concern for snitching as the was before ‘poptop’ cans.

My Mom (1923—2013),remembered the (German immigrant)adults sending her to the corner bar to get them beer, when she was a kid.
