You know? Of two characters that are (were) currently “suffering” in this Strip, I would have thought that Tiffany would have been the FIRST to have gotten out her current predicament a long time ago, learned a valuable lesson and would have moved on with her life, a bit wiser for the experience. But by Golly, the future (for the time being) is beginning to look bright for My favorite Nerd, while for Tiffany, that light at the end of the Tunnel is an on-coming Train.
One painful learning experience coming up, young lady. And the BAD part about THAT is Ann Eiffel is going to be the “teacher.” No way is she going to “allow” Tiff to borrow money from her Dad, to pay that credit card bill. That means Tiffany will be spending the Summer working a J-O-B. And if its that dishwasher job at the Fuse, then by the time Tiffany is through “busting suds,” she’s going to will WISH she had put MORE in more effort and taken a much greater interest in that job she had at Kidz First.
Poor Kid. She’ll be cutting up her OWN credit card after she gets that first bill.
It would not surprise me if Tiffany goes to another bank and gets another credit card and another and another (after Bernice explains banks don’t “fill up” credit cards but not thinking there are other banks).
Tiffany gets so much use as this strip’s resident punching bag, she should probably check in to a battered women’s shelter. Some high school cheerleader must’ve been really awful to Greg during his teenage years.
Maybe Tiffany goes to the bank – and it turns out her Dad is a major client – so Tiffany gets the benefit of the doubt with whatever case she makes to them.
Dear Tiff picked up one of those “The World of Finance for Dummies” books and learned that banks are like gas stations…..you just pull in, hand them your credit card, and say, “Fill ’er up”.
Oh lord, Tiffany. You know nothing about finances and you want to run an empire? Oh, boy, aren’t you in for a huge punch of reality from Bernice. 3…2…1…Pow.
I am not worried about Tiff. She is a young attractive lady so she’ll certainly figure out how to quickly get money, even just by walking down the street with no need to write resumes.
I’m glad to see Bernice interacting with Tiffany on a regular basis. Hilarity might ensue and light up *Luann1212*’s life immensely; and ours. We’ll just have to see if Greg plays it that way. Perhaps they’ll end up a regular feature. (Like Gunther and Bets???)
No cartoonist (much less Greg E.) is in the business of providing morality plays. Neither are they in the business of giving sane and balanced financial advice. Sometimes, their strips do reflect the world around them in one way or another. Probably reflected to some extent by their own life experiences.
There are more Tiffany’s in the world than we can fathom (sad to say). Some become very embittered when they realize that lending institutions aren’t the fairy godmothers they thought.
Let’s see how this ends up before we start deciding that this is a morality play or just a tale about the happenings of a naïve air head who is about to get “schooled.”
I’m not sure why people here are so surprised at Tiff’s behavior. She’s behaving just as she did years ago – as virtually all the characters are. This strip is one of those where the characters may age but they never change or grow up. Greg has really never wanted his cast to mature and grow. While most of us may dislike it (myself included) we should probably just embrace the stupidity and fecklessness of the characters.
Further to my last comment, as a counterpoint have a look at a comic which has taken its readers through an entire families growth and development – “For Better or For Worse”.
For those who think nobody could be that naïve about finance, there have been plenty of people who get a credit card, max it out and make minimum payments than just get another card and do the same. Over and over again as long as they could. And wind up thousands of dollars in debt because of it.
But until now, all her credit cards HAVE just refilled themselves every month. Instead of teaching her how money actually works, her dad taught her money was just always going to be there for her. It’s not that she isn’t capable of understanding credit, it’s that she’s been misled her whole life. Daddy has never had time for her, so why would he have time to teach her anything at all about how life works? The question now is whether she’ll realize how much damage her upbringing has done to her, and what she’ll do about it.
This is the funniest Luann strip I’d seen in a long time! I LOL’ed. Tiff reminds me of something that a co-worker’s 10 year old son asked about a long while back. He thought that ATM machines were kinda like water/ice dispensers on refrigerators. If you need money, all you have to do is go to the ATM and get some “free” cash!
Hmm. Tiffany is sure living up to her “heralded past” at this juncture. While I truly believe she would know the workings of a credit card at this point… I can play around with the joke here.
So…. how may this resolve?
a) My unfavored path…. This could develop into a situation where Ann returns again to antagonize Tiffany. By whatever means this may entail, I am not yet sure…. but there are a variety of possibilities we can all imagine.
b) My favored path… Tiffany has multiple panels in the style of “I Love Lucy” episodes where all manner of hijinks ensue as she tries and has various difficulties in different job positions.
* * * *
I must say that I like that Tiffany found a book she is interested in. The title that Greg created is funny in that it is almost a psychoanalytical title describing Tiffany’s journey of “awakening” where she is still far closer to “Tyke” along the spectrum.
There is no way she is that dumb. Nobody is that dumb. She’s been dealing with credit cards her whole life and she never understood that the bill has to be paid? Why does she think that Ann is after her about spending if she thinks the bill magically gets paid by the bank? I’m sorry this is a bridge too far.
Nobody can be that out of touch with reality. I’m certainly no fan of Ann Eiffel, but maybe she did Tiffany a favour in showing her how thew real world works.
Taking a vacation this week, but I thought I’d stick my head in.
One, only 165 comments at 1:50 PM Mountain time? Not good for a Luann day.
Two, I’m very frustrated that they are playing the Tiffany -is-that-dumb card. Most of all, this is a return of the Tiffany that, for all practical purposes, was the villain in earlier days.
Three, most frustrating of all, it appears that Ann is being positioned as Tiffany ’s “savior,” teaching her about money, no matter how mean and despicable she has been in the past.
Ann is (too) quickly becoming a “hero” in this strip – same as Al and Les.
hopefully this is a two week arc; Tiff has a lot of learning to do. It’s good to see that Ann is out of the picture (for now) though I wonder about the credit card Tiff still has that’s on her dad’s account. Bern needs to give her a break and let her start up that little nail operation in her room; maybe the Fuse could give her some space to operate in.
