Meanwhile, deceitful Bets sits there all smiley with her boyfriend Gunther and his good friend, Bernice, pretending to be their friend… she’s the one who gave Tiffany the heads-up in the first place that Bernice was looking for her.
Stefi looks like she’s suffocating Tiffany; all in the name of “friendship”, of course. So Karma catches up with Tiffany’s misuse of the word ‘friend’…
Tiff is nobody’s friend. She does everything to protect her image. This is the old Tiff we know. Stef and Kip brought her back from hiding behind the fat episode. She has moved on from that episode and is ready to be herself again. However, as things tend to go, Bernice finds out the truth and confronts Tiff with hurt feelings. That is when Tiff comes to head with everything…Kip Stef who brought back the old Tiff and the new friendships with Bernice, Gunther and Bets. Somehow I suspect either Les or Luann will provide with a perspective or POV for Tiff to finally see where she should be going.
Tha Hall A gang is proud that Tiffany used deception that benefit the illegal use of the dormitory space. Her profile is a liar. Will they trust her later. Will her reputation as a liar follow her into the world of business? Nay, no one will remember.
All this talk of “true friend” may be causing The Judas Syndrome with Tiff. She lied to Bernice who may be snarky, but at least she is loyal. Tiff just might feel rather guilty.
While the focus of the last few strips has been Tiffany, those of us who take the long view will remember that back when this story started, Bernice was having difficulties with Bets. Now look at them. Bernice and Bets are on the way to a fast friendship.
You know I feel pulled, this is almost a college ethics class, the way this arc developed. Was it ethical for Bets to give Tiffany a heads up about Bernice, if her goal was to keep Tiffany from getting into trouble? Bets loyalty to Tiffany, is deceitful to Bernie who believes Tiffany’s lies and deliberately misleading setup, particularly the lie about protecting Bernie’s feelings? Was it unethical for Tiff to protect her hall group friends from trouble by fooling Bernice. Is that for a deontological choice that was best for her in this situation is the best choice that can be made, as she promised Stefi she would watch out for Bernice? In the end the person manipulated, used, and lied to is Bernice. She bought the whole scheme, and Bets and Gunther are not telling her what they actually know. If she ever finds out the truth, and the extent of the deceit here, will she be totally estranged from her “friends” here? What is worse, being lied to and used, or a rules violation? I don’t like this arc at all.
So. Tiffany “wins” the respect and admiration of the Hall A Gang. And all it cost was LYING to her old and most trusted friends. Now if Tiffany would do THAT just to go to a party, how low would she sink to get ahead in business?
And quite frankly, if the Hall A Gang are the so called “Bad Crowd” that once left Tara holding the bag, then Tiffany is in for a NASTY but will deserved surprise.
And speaking of “Nasty, but Well Deserved Surprises,” isn’t it about time that Tom popped the question to Ann? He might as well, because frankly, I don’t think there are that many “folks” still feeling “sorry” for Tiffany right now……,
“Trusted friends”? Didn’t Gunther IMMEDIATELY spill the beans on something Tiffany asked him to keep quiet? He literally shouted it to the whole room. Tiffany clearly doesn’t trust him at all, and for good reason. Gunther may not be good with secrecy, but this was never his secret to tell, so he should never have blabbed. Especially since he told Tiffany he wouldn’t. That makes him a liar.
Clearly the focus group finds Tiffany more appealing than Luann, and Gregg and Karen are Luannizing Tiffany, former villain, replacement beleaguered everywoman.
Bernice is really going to be hurt when she learns that Tiffany lied to her, that there was a party and that Tiffany didn’t stay away from the party because Bernice wasn’t invited. I think that will end any friendship the two of them may have had.
Dionne Warwick: Keep smiling, keep shiningKnowing you can always count on me, for sureThat’s what friends are forFor good times and bad timesI’ll be on your side forever moreThat’s what friends are for
So Bernice isn’t concerned there’s an illegal party going on somewhere in the building – it seems the important thing to her is that Tiffany isn’t at it. Once she found that out, she stopped her vendetta even though Tiffany basically confirmed there was a party was in progress.
Sorry, but Tiffany doesn’t owe Bernice a thing. Besides, Stef is a high quality individual and Bernice is a miserable human being who should be fired from her RA role. She bends the rules at her convenience and hates everyone. I’d like to see her written out and have Stef date Gunth.
what goes around comes around. Question is..why did Bern not hear the music from the other room if it is so loud? Looking at the panel it seems that Tiff may be regretting her decision.
Poor, naive Bernice. Too good for this world, too pure ♡. Gunther seems barely able to avoid another explosion of Truth and Bets is completely fine with all the story. Meanwhile, Tiffany becomes the hero of the party gang. I wonder if they are the same people Tara knew and, at least according to her vision of history, pushed her to become a thief. Will Tiffany be pushed to do more and more dangerous things? I think so.
OK Tiff. The ball’s in your court. Do you side with the “blackout” side or with your “traditional” friends? This will be a good maturity sign. I’m not looking for you to confess to Bernice… that might actually cause more problems for Bets and Gunth if Bernice finds out. But will you not be led astray by the blackout group and “social distance” yourself from them…. Hmmmmmm…. Difficult, I know, as Steph is your “roomie,” but… A little bit of pain now, might make for some solid relationships with long time friends. Hmmmmm Again!
Gun (ugh!) looks conflicted today. The small balloon “Hm!” draws our attention to it. This may portend some sort of activity by Gunther in the (near?) future. He may discuss the whole episode with Bets, with consequences for the two TBD. He may discuss the episode with Tiff, with consequences for the two TBD. He may even relate the episode to Bernice. But that would likely cause serious consequences between Bern and Tiff and likely Tiff and Gunther himself.
Greg has drawn himself into a very nasty situation. It could be explosive OR it could be just another episode to file away and we’ll be off somewhere else next week. Maybe Luann will have gotten wind of the Blackout party and wonder about the night time activities of Tiffany!
I was watching the news, they were interviewing a group of young men and women on the beach in florida. The basic consensus was they would rather party and take their chances with the virus than be bored. what is tif doing that is so bad, it sound like a lot of commentators were virgins on their wedding night.
A victory for Tiff? Maybe for the old Tiff, but I have a feeling that the new Tiff, the maturing Tiff doesn’t see it that way now. I sense a flicker of guilt, an awareness that selfish betrayal doesn’t have the “thrill of victory” anymore. Tiff has been stung by the betrayal of her mother and now the betrayal of her father. Could Tiffany actually be experiencing the emergence of a heart? A sense of honor? If not, then go get a boob job and give your critics something else to have hissy fits about.
I think Gunther will come clean and tell Bernice the truth which will put him and Bets at odds. Then in a couple of years or so (5 to 10 years comic time), Gun and Bern will hook up and live happy ever after.
