Speaking of going ‘round – I just baked a 36" (yes, 36 inch) pepperoni, red/green bell pepper, green onion, sweet onion, bacon, and black olive pizza tonight. Even made my own sauce. Partially baked the crust, wiped the top with extra virgin olive oil before putting the sauce and toppings on. I’m always up for a challenge… :)
I have heard it mentioned it goes back to their wolf ancestry when they would tramp down the tall grasses for a bed…but that is not funny like Luann getting dizzy and falling down…
Well if one has been missing the name character and BFF there has been quite a bit of the Luann and Bernice lately. Today is of the combination of loopy and snarky they are known for but the drama and mystery resumes tomorrow. Hope things will be as light by the end of the coming week. I have some foreboding.
Well, 1212, many there have been who speculated that the primary reason for moving Bernice into Luann’s house was to get more mileage for Luann. If so, mission accomplished.
And yet, it still seems to belittle Luann because
One, without Bernice, Luann would not appear in her own strip. And we’ve had years of Sunday strips showing us exactly that.
Two, even with Bernice on board, Luann is still the butt of most of the jokes.
Thus far, it’s hard to weigh what’s going on in the daily arc, which some of us speculate is going to continue through Valentine’s Day.
(Other than, I’m as sure as ever, there was no one in the room with Luann that night – and Luann is pranking Bernice, but for a possible positive reason – probably getting Bernice to pair up with Jack)
Bernice’s little cute smile in the 3rd panel♡♡. Luann’s fun way to experience and try new things ♡. I just hope this isn’t the last time we can see them having fun together like this.
Dogs instinctively circle as a protective gesture. When Luann circles, she will get dizzy and drop to the floor. Luann’s experiment failed to explain why dogs circle. But it shows that Luann will jump without considering the results. Puddles is lucky that he is not Luann?
A TRUE test of “doggie behavior” as it applies to humans would have been:
1) Walking around your bed several times each night and sniffing the air before going to bed each night.
2) Walking around your house 3 or 4 times before entering.
3) Driving around the Mall Parking lot multiple times before selecting a park spot.
4) Chasing Les’ cat while visiting the Gulag.
5) Sniffing your food each time BEFORE you eat it. Particularly during those infrequent dates with guys. Which might explain the “infrequent dates with guys.”
6) Growling at the wall separating your bedroom from Bern’s at 3:00 AM each night.
PS: You just got “played” by your “Nerdy Friend.” A trend I HOPE the Strip’s other “Nerd” takes up. (Hint, Hint, Hint, G&K) ;)
On a more serious note, cancer sucks. A friend died several days ago ( just found out ) from liver cancer. They had put him through so much and it was all for nothing. Nice guy, too. I only knew him a bit ( comparitively,) from the past, although he and his wife used to come and see us play a lot years ago and more recently.
With the glut of responses that this strip gets daily, I would have thought for sure that at this point of the day, there would have been a boatload of comments dissecting the socio-political ramifications of Luann going in circles, imitating a dog’s behavior, why dogs do that, etc. That’s why I almost never weigh in on this strip. Anything I might have said would have already been dissected to death. But today? Oh well. Cheers, folks…..
Great, another person whom a smartphone is wasted on. Listen, people: you have the sum total of all human knowledge sitting in your pocket! You don’t need to just wonder things out loud anymore; you can actually look up the answers to the random questions that pop into your brain.
The sad part here is how realistic today’s strip is, in that people often fail to take advantage of the information right at their fingertips. Problem is that it’s usually the older generation rather than those who’ve grown up with the technology. Poor Luann here is a 20 year old, being written like a 60 year old, who acts like she’s 14 years old.
I read through the comments to see how many would lend their expertise as to why dogs walk in circles before lying down. I found just as many comments about pizza. This has been an insightful experiment in examining human behavior.
In which the already-dizzy “heroine” (well, “protagonist” at any rate) becomes even dizzier and meets her downfall. Naturally, her antifriend Bernie offers no more than yet another snark….
1. I don’t find the multiple Puds and Luannes walking in circles convincing. It doesn’t read like something in motion. It reads as Pud and Luann walked into a replicator several times. 2. Google it, Luann. 3. Shut up with the snark, Bern.
here’s nothing wrong with not “acting your age.” One of the funniest memories I have is of hubby’s aunt and uncle before a family dinner. They were both in their 70s. Uncle picked up a can of spray whipped cream and began spraying Aunt with it. She picked up the other can and sprayed him! They continued chasing each other around and spraying until the cans were empty. (Then she made him go buy some more, since he started it).

Not just dogs. Many animals do. It’s instinctive, they are checking out the area for safety before they settle.

This is kind of weird that the weekend strip features the same two as the cliff-hanger Friday strip, but doesn’t continue the story.

I read that dogs do that from their ‘nesting’ instinct, the need to have a decent place to sleep in the wild. No different then making up you bed.
