Ben fué directo al grano insinuandole que inicie una relación con Jack, pero Bernice aún lo niega. A pesar estar de tanto tiempo estando separados, Ben puede ver perfectamente a través de la máscara de Bernice.
Prompts? Come on, Bernice. You can’t control everything. What Ben needs to do is tell you it is you who wants to know so you go and find out yourself like a big girl. Stop being a baby and complain like a middle school girl. Act like a college coed.
I usually like Bernice because she snarks so well but in this arc, not so much. She is so childish and whiny. She thinks she’s so grown up because she is a good academic, but being academic does not make her a good person or mature. She is feeling insulted that Luann doesn’t want to confide in her. Welcome to adulthood. You will experience things you don’t like but have to deal with them because sometimes they are beyond your control or none of your buiness.
Hey, why don’t you BOTH go exercise with Jack? He can get stereo that way. Ben can be the left channel, and Bern can be the right channel. Quite apropos as she always likes to be right.
.
I know, I used ‘apropos’ questionably as a synonym for ‘appropriate’. It is allowable nowadays.
Ah the repressed desires of an uncertain know-it-all who really knows very little on the real; I for one, hope that she will find a way to directly talk to Jack, be honest, find out her true feelings, and possibly his then decide.
Seems like romance is disappearing just like the colleges and dorm life. With the exception of Gunther and Bets, there have been no spontaneous new relationships because everyone knows everyone already. We need the return of bimbo power. We need a single minded, fun loving girl like Stefani to sweep in and hit on the guys. And, we need her ex, Kip the quarterback, to make some rebound moves on Luann, or even Bernice. Tara is trouble, let her develop a sudden attraction to Les.
After walking to Ben’s right side in Monday’s strip, to his left in Tuesday’s, and to his right in Wednesday’s, Bernice is now again to his left. Of course, there’s an obvious reason.
This is a good plan for Ben. He will get in shape and maybe pick off one of our heroines in the strip. On the other hand, the plan is a bad idea for Bernice. Second hand info never works well.
I love the “don’t be so junior high” blast from Bern. Geez haven’t she and Luann acted like middle schoolers since they were in middle school? They have not really changed emotionally even though Bern has advanced as far as intellectual studies go and I am not too certain about Luann except that she must have taken every freshman level course at the community college so far along with a 2nd year course that Prof Zebo teaches (Intermediate Art Appreciation 200?)…. Girls in their early 20’s with emotional ages of about 13….
Bernice is the problem here. She wants Jack but does nothing to pursue it. she expects him to just fawn over her. get a life bernice.some other girl will go after jack sooner or later
Maybe that’s why Bernie and Lu have inexplicably been friends for so long. They both have a knack for the Silly.
The only “Good” news here is, as long as Halper family is harassing Mr. Jack, it decreases the chance that any of Bernice’s shenanigans is going to lead directly to Tara’s discovery at the Fuse.
THAT, weighty task will probably still fall on a Fuse employee. Or the police. Or an unsuspecting Ham Burglar.
Hopefully after this week’s “filler” We’ll return to “All things Tara.” ;)
I love how strong their relationship is now ♡. Bernice “punching” Ben doing a big smile, amused as how silly his idea was, is so cute to see ♡♡♡. I hope Bernice rethinking about it and decide to go exercise with Jack. Or maybe the two siblings can go together… but in this case Ben would become a third wheel.
No one in Pittsville is in shape enough to be able to exercise and keep up with Jack. But he understands this. And with a little bit of time, Bernice could be in just as good of shape!
So, after ducking Ben for weeks Bernice finds he may be her best hope? (The way Luann and Bernice are acting would have been more appropriate for elementary students than college students. I’m glad Ben is being supportive under the circumstance.)
Ben exercising with Jack while trying to find out what is going on with Luann and hook Jack up with his sister? I can’t explain why but I’m interested in that arc. I doubt we’ll see that, though, since neither Ben nor Jack have been elevated to major character status….yet. Still, one can hope.
Message from Bernice in panel 2 to the readers: “Stop pining for the soap opera drama from when they were still at school. The characters are now adults and the time for such storylines has passed.”
I stopped reading Luann when this whole arc began, with the stupid deception involving Tara. It’s gotten worse with this dense conversation b/t Bernice and her brother.
The way Jack has been portrayed, he would welcome anyone as a work out partner. I am quite sure he would do well with either as a trainer and not be too hard on a beginner. In the long run, I do hope Jack and LuAnn do end up together … If Bern wants to have any relationship with Jack, she should go start some beginner exercise program with him. For someone so book smart, Bern is very stupid.
This appears to be a repeat of the incident with Luann snooping into Gunther’s sex life: Bernice already knows that it’s a bad idea, but she’ll look the other way as long as it benefits her with more info on people. These people are quite the gossipy hens, aren’t they?
Bernice’s jealous behavior is a Greg go to he keeps in his back pocket. It’s been pulled out numerous times in the past, starting with Luann and Aaron Hill. The smitten character usually resolves it in a slightly different way, depending on the situation and character development.
Bernice, in this episode, has a new foil to play off against; Br’er Ben.
Ben’s “in-jest” suggestions this week are designed to try to get Bernice to see the reality of the situation more clearly. Yet, it is difficult for Bernice to reason through her own worries, fears, and insecurities TO SEE these things more clearly.
As is common for a whole helluva lot of us, Bernice’s response today reflects how she is stubbornly trying to finagle the options available to her to fit her own preconceived “private universe” (a pedagogy reference some may recognize) of reality.
But, I suspect in the end that Ben’s comedic, yet sage advice will win out in the end and eventually Bernice will find a more logical path to a) meet up with Jack, and b) talk/confront Luann (and have Luann either explain what is really going on, deny anything to keep Bernice stewing, or egg her on further (for more hilarity ensues?)).
I am still more interested in thinking about how Tara will be discovered? Will it a) be through Tara’s own doing, b) a happenstance discovery by one of “The Fuse” employees, c) or something else?
“Bro-vice”…definitely a bot word. I don’t think Ben has met Jack, so how does that work? “Yeah, I’d like to exercise with you, random guy. You gave my sister a fish, and everyone knows you like to hang out in the dog park in your little tights, so why not?”
Ben should observe that if Bernice really likes Jack she would join him in any activity. It’s not like he’s asking her to go to a monster truck rally. Exercise is a pretty benign and neutral activity.
I’ve said it before, the Evanses have a problem with pacing their storytelling. Jack should have ran into the siblings today and put an end to Yenta Bern’s ranting and raving. Bern’s insecurities and unrequited crush have worn thin. And the foundation for this crush? One chat in the dogpark and a gift of a fish. Really?
Hey Ben, why not use your military training to help Bernice get fit? With her new smoking hot bod, she will have more confidence, be able to work out with Jack, and maybe Jack will be attracted to the new Bernice. But please disengage from this petty conversation about Luann and Jack. Or, are you secretly smitten with Luann?
