I don’t know if Bernice is dumb or just plain ass stupid.

In 30 years they will still be in Luann’s room wondering what happened. How did time pass so fast? How come we didn’t do…….?

In over 35 years all that Bernice ever changed were her glasses and hairstyle. Remember high school graduation and the promise of a whole new her, and how she stayed exactly the same afterward? I’m just saying, expecting anything life-changing from Bernice is just asking for disappointment.

I don’t have to worry about dying my hair. When my hair “turned gray”, it turned platinum blonde. People think I get it colored, but I don’t. It’s very convenient.

I’m with Bernie on this one! I am proud of my silver hair and my finely engraved face! I earned every line on it. Alas, a change in attitude doesn’t do much for arthritis, though.

And here I thought this arc was going to be about the consequences of Nancy tossing a couple of rude little snots from The Fuse…. Instead, we get a pity party about aging…… Oh well, I should’ve known better……***eyeroll*** Okay, how are sales of “Just For Men” doing these days?

Luann and Bernice will tell Greg that they want to look the same for the next 50 years. That would put Greg at about 123…

Bernice, I am already there. I don’t dye my hair. I am nearly all white now. Most of my women friends still dye their hair. I am one of few who let the hair go gray. I also don’t wear makeup to hide the “lady lines.” Why spend the money on something that has to be washed off every night? Just to feel and imagine being younger than you are? Money is better spent on other stuff. Make-up is expensive especially for older women who need to use a lot – not just mascara, a little rouge and a bit of lip color. Nope. Plenty of foundation, plenty of powder, thick concealers, pencils to draw contours to give a more angled look, etc, etc. No thanks. Bernice said it perfectly – media-driven. Who the heck let them dictate what women should do to satisfy the Y chromosome group? Are we women such sheep? Baa? Not me. I know Elly let her hair go gray when time came. At least she did that part right. It looks like NANCY is still dyeing her hair.

Fate! or has the social revolution has started! Right on Sister!

So, Nancy is “ only” 50! Wish I was 50 again.

Bern – OK – But you will need to work with a few million other women.

Don’t you just love kids at that age. They’re in their early 20s, have the world by the tail and think they’re going to make things better. It’s only later on that they often find out that they haven’t changed things as much as they would have liked. ;/

After the story of Bernice being a terrible friend and treating Luann like an enemy, I was hoping they couldn’t talk to each other anymore. But they are. They talk in Luann’s room with the same passion as always. It’s pretty nice to see and Bernice is fun with her confidence that they can change the world. Unfortunately, it just seems that Luann is too good and unable to be mad at Bernice, that takes advantage of her. Let’s see if this friendship can reborn with more justice and consideration.

Remember that time in history where young men preferred old women and vice versa before the media go ahold of everything?

Stay out of the direct sun, always wear a hat, sunscreen and sunglasses, keep your weight fairly steady and you’ll look wonderful in middle age.

I don’t think Bernice is nice enough to build solidarity within the feminist community. She should still try, but there’s one question that haunts me: is she a real feminist, or a TERF? Maybe we don’t wanna know…

Media-driven stereotypes have gray haired men feeling distinguished? Perhaps Bernice has not seen the commercials lately. “Men, are you feeling tired? Has your get up and go got up and left? Are you getting up too often to pee at night? Have you lost your sex drive?” You need to get this testosterone replacement or that therapy. Guys are hating aging, too.

People get old, and there’s nothing you can do about it… Here’s a little song for you Bernice:…. “Doom, despair, agony on me. Deep dark depression, excessive misery. If it weren’t for bad luck, I’d have no luck at all. Doom, despair, agony on meee”..

Yeah… isn’t that what your mothers said?

If a man has a bald spot, it’s time for a comb-over. If a woman has a bald spot, it’s time to buy a new hat.

Men get fat, lose their hair, an absolutely every thing is more difficult. The physical side of aging stinks, no matter the gender.

And yes – we stop liking what we see in the mirror.

If aging bothers Frank less, he may just be more resigned to the fact that he can’t change it. As they say, it beats the alternative,

My hair always had natural streaking and highlights. Now instead of browns, reds, blondes, I have light browns, mostly silvers, and grays. I love it. Due to a lack of ‘poker face’ ageist types know my amusement and contempt for their mis-guided attitude.

But the sentiment coming from Bern is a rare departure from snark directed at Luann.

When I went to my 25th HS reunion the women looked much better than the men. The men had gotten fatter and bald. I could still tell who the women were without looking at their name tags.

Most of the older women I know do what ever they want concerning their looks. Some have gray hair and are happy with it, most do not get face lifts.

I think it’s just the opposite.Wrinkles look more like “wisdom” on women than they do on men.

And women don’t lose their hair like men,it just turns color.

Bern you are wrong men don’t care how they age, Woman can keep their same hairstyle and looks for years.

Hilarity will ensue. That is all I offer for now.

I think country singer Emmylou Harris has looked awesome with her gray/silver hair for as long as I can remember. And I like the recent, though it may be passe now, style of women having a streak of gray in their hair.

Then there’s Helen Mirren, who became SEXIER in her fifies and sixties!!!

A good punch by GnK here. They’re looking at one side of it but it’s also the one that needs it more than any other. If you have doubts, look at commercial TV and specifically the commercials and what they’re pushing. Designed to make people wish they were like they were at 25 or how to bring in the perfect mate or worse yet, this is what the perfect mate looks like. One more reason I don’t do much with Hollywood things anymore…

To be fair – while we haven’t achieved parity yet on the body image stereotypes, there’s a lot more pressure on guys these days than there was a few decades ago. And while there isn’t as much pressure on men to look a certain way, there’s a lot of pressure on men to ACT a certain way. Seems like its only been the last few years that its becomes somewhat acceptable for a man to show weakness, cry, or ask for help.

I must admit, I’m kind of intrigued to see where this goes. Knowing GnK, probably nowhere, but still.

I remember admiring some hair I had just cut, how pretty and white it was. Then I remembered I was supposed to worry about signs of aging. It’s hard to sweat small stuff when you have had enough run-ins with your own mortality. Never expected to live that long.

College friend, he had blotches of white in his hair. Looked as if someone had dribbled paint in his hair. He got tired of explaining the “why”. So & he had his hair dyed. After he got married, in his 20’s” his wife thought that this was hysterical & would tell people how hubby had a dye job.More years pass & wife started to “color” her hair. At a party she, yet again, told people how her husband dyes his hair. Husband pointed out it was something they both did. Wife got very angry. At home husband pointed out how many times he had asked her not to tease him in public about his hair. Wife said it was not the same thing….. Husband & wife talked about this with their marriage councilor. She told wife it was the same.

I do find the stereotypes about aging ridiculous. Not all that many men ‘age gracefully’, to tell the truth.

“Crusader Bernie” has trouble enough changing her clothes, never mind stereotypic fate….

Bernie plans to start the facelifts next year, to beat the Rush.

As if the writers of this strip are the least bit progressive concerning women’s issues. How embarrassing for them.

At least don’t be like the men who pretend to be women or the women pretending to be men, all for the sake of femininity or masculinity. No, Frankensteining your parts doesn’t change your gender, and neither does popping pills.

But separating “masculine and feminine” from “male and female”, as actually shown in the comic today, would solve a lot of everything.
