Nancy, it is OK to hit Luann with reality. She is 20 so she IS old enough for this stuff, and the very fact she never considered it (as in someone deciding to just keep the dog) shows she is emotionally younger than 20. As for some of you saying this just might get Luann to move out of the house, today’s strip says she is not ready. She still has more growing up to do.
I have no idea what Greg is getting at with this weeks story. He ended last week on a cliffhanger — Puddles dognapped! But the first three days of this week has all the intensity of the DeGroots deciding whether to order in tacos or pizzas. Frank says he could see Puddles sitting on a woman’s lap inside her car which seems impossible because car windows are higher than lap level. But Frank doesn’t know the woman. Doesn’t recognize the car implying that it’s no body the DeGroots know, But he’s not anxious about getting Puddles back. And don’t give me grief that only a couple minutes have passed Greg knows that this has been going on for three days. He’s leaving us on tenderhooks. This is bad all the way around.
Probably been said, but I haven’t seen it. My guess is that it was Frank who found Puddles and he’s teasing Luann. Why else would he not be more worried?
Around here, the lady would post a photo of Puddles on Facebook with info about where she found him. Lots of dogs and cats have been returned to their homes that way.
Frank wants luann to be realistic and understand not everyone does the right thing. But he tries to backpedal when he sees how upset luann got when he said there’s a chance they may NEVER see puddles again.
Why can’t you just call the police and give the lady’s license plates? It’s so obvious, I’m surprised you haven’t done it yet. Also, did you even get license plates?
Okay, now I’m really hoping that Frank is just leading Luann on and teaching her a lesson.
And he’s not the clueless, insensitive, Jerk that he’s been depicted as for the last two Strips.
And if Frank IS leading Lu on, let’s just say just say that this is his way of payback for Lu letting Tara stay at the Fuse last year, and thereby enabling Cousin Stella to Break-in and Enter, the family’s place of business.
It starting to seem, to me anyway, that Frank knows more than he’s letting on. The Way he doesn’t seems to be worried, I think he knows that Puddles is safe, and who picked him up. I’m starting to get the idea that it might have been Mrs. Gray.
Too late Frank! He just said poor, missing Puddles is cute and he can’t take it back like that. Luann is now back in a deep state of fear for her dog. I wonder if she’ll be able to act cool with Jack now, or if the next time they meet he’ll see her desperate face. In a way, I want this to happen, but if Jack is the one who returns Puddles to Luann…, how will she react?
Frank was probably operating on the belief that since Luann didn’t care enough about Puddles to keep an eye on him in the park (or get him a collar and tags in the years she’s owned him), she wouldn’t be terribly upset if someone else adopted him.
I don’t understand today’s comic at all. If this had happened to my family and our dog were in someone’s car that I didn’t know, there would be all out pandemonium until we came up with a plan on how to make sure he is all right and back with his family!
Does Frank know something? Like who has Puddles and he’s just pulling Luann and Nancy’s chain for some reason. He seems to be strangely dissociated from the situation.
GnK have received quite a few digs lately from commenters about their story lines and I admit to being one of them But I think these last two weeks have been quite interesting. Kudos to you both GnK.
I know it’s a comic strip, but the ongoing reactions here are just not believable. In real life, we (my family) would be out running down this lady in her car. When dad saw her the first time, he would have run out in front of the car to stop it. Really.
I’d be asking a Frank to describe the car and checking the area, alerting the gang and Brad, making posters. Frank’s right. Luann should wake up to reality and Nancy stop trying to sugar coat it. :-o
Frank was NOT the person who picked up the dog. Puddles had a look of fear and dread on his face that day. He would not react to Frank, his owner, like that.
Will Luann find Puddles? Will the mean lady keep him? Will Puddles find himself homeless on the mean streets? Will readers continue to follow this slow arc? Stay Tuned.
I hope Frank has Puddles. Now, let’s let Luann have an adventure or two worthy of a college girl. I’m enjoying seeing her but let’s let her grow up a little GandK.
Occam’s razor: A woman driving by saw Puddles wandering and picked him up. What she does next is anyone’s guess. If she’s kindly, she’ll post on social media that she found a dog and include a good photo (not Luann’s style photo!).
Frank is being truthful; also the possibility that he picked Puddles up is a little weak because of the look on Puddles’ face as he was being grabbed. It was a look of fear like he did not recognize the person.
Frank knows where Pud is. As does Nancy. They are too calm, if not annoyed about it all. Not panicked. They think they are teaching Luann a lesson, I guess.
It’s something to think about. I have a cat right now that was a stray; I kept her in because of a winter storm. I’ve been trying to find her owner but it’s been no response. I may find her a new home before long. But yeah, Luann, there is the kindness of people who take care of pets but without any contact, they do end up rehoming them.
now it is possible that Frank honked at the woman in the car and motioned for her to pull over. In this case it is Frank who is the “kindly”, not to mention observant and on the ball, person.
So Luann panicked and wandered the streets looking for puddles the first time he was “lost”. Luann felt she overreacted and was embarrassed by her “stressgasm”. Now that she is being depicted as trying to keep herself calm and react like “an adult” and many people see her as unfeeling and irresponsible. It seems like a lot of readers only comment on the panal they see without going back to past panals for context.

Frank keeps going down further and further. It is the family pet, after all. A furry family member.
.
Panel 1: Franks’ bottle says, “Aqua Wet”
Panel 3: Frank’s bottle says, “Greg 3 – 2”
If Frank keeps that up, the next panel will show the bottle saying, “Arsenic” – compliments of Luann and Nancy.
