I love Puck’s reaction. I plan to eat a house-plant later. Lupin’s Captain Chaos strategy is great, as is Elvis’ Siamese Prerogative, but Goldie wins hands down for that face she pulls in panel 2. Then she one-ups that one in panel 3 with an absolute death glare towards The Woman.
Unlike Lupin, my Pingpong makes a mess when she likes her food. She always leaves less for my other cats to polish off when she spreads bits over the floor and scattered on the walls.
My cat is different: he eats new food with relish and evident enjoyment. Until I buy a bulk supply of it at which point he will refuse to go anywhere near it ever again. :sigh:
I sort of see a variation of the Three Mystic Monkeys in the last panel: “See No New Food, Smell No New Food, and Taste No New Food.” Only now they’ve been joined by the Chaos Monkey, “I’m Gonna Paint the Ceiling with New Food.”
Loaner Cat leaves little tiny round bits of her dry food all around the bowl. Almost perfectly round. I’m not sure how she does it, but somehow while she’s eating it, she chews it in such a way that she gets the majority of the piece and then that one little round piece drops to the side. I’ve had her teeth checked on her yearly vet visit. For almost 19, she’s doing great, but maybe they’re sore sometimes and that doesn’t really show so her compensation does that. Who knows? Other than that, she’s a pretty neat eater. Even with the wet stuff.
She was bestowed the ultimate gift this morning though. She was sitting on my lap and Beau gave her his Ball! He is so obsessed over it, he won’t leave it unless it goes under the furniture and then, pesters us constantly until one of us gets it out so for him to give it to her! Well, that’s just…Of course, she looked at it like, ‘what the H am I supposed to do with a ball that weighs almost as much as I do?’ but it’s the thought, right?
As far as wet food, we’re a Fancy Beast house. The dry, little friskies sometimes 9 lives, we tried “Taste of the wild” and a duck based kibble because Roy LOVES Duck meat. Both were expensive, both mostly went uneaten. Luckily, the outside ferals aren’t as picky. There is a kitten the same color and age as Puddin’ and a Tom with no tail, I’ve seen both on the property. I call the big one Puddin’ Pop, there is no doubt he is her dad.Puddin’ BTW is growing up and is a big girl now, she is all healed and saw her first snow last week. She is a happy kitty.
Knock on wood, no power outage so far, although they are threatening rolling blackouts due to extreme demand. However, our poorly insulated southern house can’t handle this and even with the heater running full time, temperature inside is 58. We have the windows covered with blankets and and gaps around the doorframe, etc. stuffed with towels and blankets and it’s not helping. If the power goes out it’s going to be get very cold very quickly.
In cat related news, all four cats are all on one heated blanket.
In response to the woman’s panel 3 exclamation, those cats will stuff that new food right down into her cleavage! Goldie is horrified having to even sit next to her.
A foreign exchange student from some Asian country (I forget) experienced his first cafeteria food fight when I was a freshman in college. Puzzled, he asked me, “Is American custom: six o’clock you throw food?” Once I recovered my breath from laughing, I explained.
It was very rare that my cats ever refused to try new food. I could always be sure they’d at least taste it. I knew one thing for sure, if boss cat Mitzi turned it down without tasting, it was very bad food and to NEVER buy that again.
It’s that time of year again—time for me to submit BCN strips to the National Cartoonists Society for the annual Reubens Awards! What were your favorite new ‘Breaking Cat News’ strips in 2023?
The biggest rule is I can ONLY submit strips first published between January 1st and December 31st can be considered. No other years can be submitted. Every year readers suggest a few that have slipped my mind, I’m so grateful for your suggestions each year! I can submit up to eight examples!
Thank you in advance for any suggestions!!
Line up your favorites and let Georgia know! This is the year she wins! I believe!

Lupin! He likes it! That last panel makes me of the old Life cereal commercials.

I love Puck’s wistful little eyebrow in panel 3. Georgia can do so much with one single, simple line!

Who’s the cat that’s gonna go
Try the food to see if it’s good?
Lupin is! I knew he would.

OK now I remember this storyline from before. Lupin’s maniacal laughter spurred the memory.

Thin Lizzy: Jailbreak
Tonight there’s gonna be a food fight
Here in the Big Pink House
Me and the cats don’t like this food
So the walls are gonna be painted ’round!
Cat food scattered right and left
If you see us coming then I think it’s best
To move away. Do you hear what I say?
And give us our favorite food!
…….
Tonight there’s gonna be a food fight
In the Big Pink House
Tonight there’s gonna be a food fight
You’d do best to stay right out!
Tonight there’s gonna be mayhem!
Expensive food scattered around!
Tonight there’s gonna be a food fight!
So don’t you be around!
