The kid is looking through binoculars at the Moon. I can see where that would make a father wish his child to disappear. Stinks that you lost your place in your precious book, Dad

I was about Calvin’s age when we were landing men on the moon, what an amazing time in our history. I was captivated by every moment of every mission.

Just praying that the Resident doesn’t see this strip.

With the commercialization of space travel, I expect the first thing written on the moon to be “Drink Coca-Cola”.

Well, his imagination has DEFINITELY sped up the moon rover !!

I think some people who won’t to go to Mars should just focus on that. They clearly don’t want to help solve problems here.

Each letter would have to be about 100 miles across.

Given Calvin’s propensity for general sloppy hand writing with his homework, he did a remarkable job with writing his sentence on the moon (in cursive!) with the moon rover.

I guess Calvin was at least smart enough not to write that same message in snow although it would’ve been funnier. Talk about self incriminating evidence “written” by it’s author!

Calvin, we all wish the same thing.

The first thing like this on the moon is not going to be a kid’s graffitti, it will be a Coca Cola ad.

The dwarf planet Ceres is supposed to have lots of water, maybe shoot for that

I love how Bill Watterson rendered the Apollo lunar lander module and the lunar rover.

Haha… Dad does come up with some good ones at times…

Sassy dad is my favorite dad.

For an honest look at the prospect of colonizing the Moon and Mars, I highly recommend A City on Mars, a 2024 non-fiction book by Kelly and Zach Weinersmith, illustrated by the latter (the guy who does Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal). Sneak preview: they’re quite dubious that the benefits will outweigh the costs.

Calvin’s writing on the moon will do until The Tick, where the Chairman writes “CHA” on the moon.

The “Dear…” really sells this one. It changes it from a bad taste strip to an hilarious one, just like that. And right at the end, the perfect note to end on.

I guess Watterson was an ok cartoonist, maybe.

What a nice dad.

I’ll bet there were a lot of would-be astronauts hoping that we’d go back to the moon so they could try this out!
